I know considering some of the posts on here about how AW's support has no clue what an m15x even is, I made a call and specifically asked about the 1920x1200 LCD. It IS CLEARVIEW as well, NOT MATTE finished... Just thought I'd throw that out there... I'm out of town until saturday, but mine will be waiting for me when I get home!![]()

Well I called and asked that question and got several different answers, but after contacting a supervisor who had held and seen the 1920x1200 he says that it IS THE SAME SCREEN AS IN THE m5550 FOR SURE.
To my knowledge, a 1920x1200 does not even exist for a laptop at this point. The rep did tell me, "AW is working on that option, so it may become available in the future." He thought I wanted the the glossy, which I do not, so he was trying to explain that I should hold out on making a purchase if I wanted the glossy.
Untill someone holds one in there hands from this forum and tell us otherwise, I believe that the 1920x1200 will be matte. -
This is the exact e-mail I got from the rep:
"Hi, I hope you are doing.
We are having too many customers asking for the Clear view Technology in the m15x, this option is available ONLY for the WXGA 1440x900 LCD. If you choose the WUXGA 1920x1200 LCD you will NOT have the Clear view Technology.
The Area 51 m15x that we have here has the 1920x1200 LCD and doesn’t have the Clear view technology, I’m checking with Miami to see if we are going to offer that option later on.
I’ll keep you posted." -
I know I know... who knows... The Shadow knows...but Alienware sure doesn't have a damn clue!
I "hope you are doing" too Rant... Hahaha....jeez... -
This is my understanding from talking to them on the phone... Both screens are glossy but the 1440x900 is the ONLY one with the Clearview technology which basically makes the screen brighter. This is why clearview is not given with the 1920x1200 option. This is what theyve told me numerous times :S
Personally I went with the 1440x900 even though I am doing Graphic design. Thing is I think its enough with better frame rates and less strain on the machines graphic processing powa. Sides IMO the 1920x1200 seems way to tiny for me but I guess its a matter of getting adjusted to it, one of those "Once you go ______ you never go back!" haha -
there is a dude in my thread about my config and he says my blu ray reader will not play blu ray movies.. What the hell??
-
Yeah, I loved the first line too...That was not a copy and paste error on my part. -
hi guys, i was playing bioshock on my m15x (1400x? EVERY max no prob at all) and my audio was struggling a little bit..i have the lastest drivers ...any ideas?
-
Well it looks like I'm one of the only jackasses that got the 1920x1200, but I'm still standing behind my choice. I believe it will come in really handy in my Industrial Design classes. I rarely play games on PC, but I will pick up some choice games because of this laptop. I know 1920x1200 will hurt my experience, but not enough for me to truly notice. That's my ignorant opinion and I'm sticking to it...
-
I got the 1200p also, but I wanted the real estate.
-
Yeah, I do not think the Blu Ray drive plays movies without the proper drivers...
That has been confirmed somewhere. -
but cant you just download the drivers?? why would you sell the blu ray drive and not have it work??
it says on the site it reads every type of blu ray. So I mean, yeah... -

Haha, I wasn't expecting someone to come my defense, this forum is cool! I'm just a little inebriated, that's all. I guess you're right. I have almost no knowledge of Processor power nor do I know anything about RAM. I just knew I wanted something that would last for a few years, so I got as much RAM as Vista could handle, and I got the second best processor cause I read somewhere that quad core won't reach it's full potential for a while or so, so for now it's just a glorified Dual Core... I knew I wanted as much real-estate as possible for school and drafting so I guess, in the screen department, I made the right choice... Whoulda thunk it!
-
i ve been playing games allnight with my m15x (8800gtx), gpu didnt go above 75c and fans are very quiete, you hear only the sound of wind passing thru vents not the fan noise...i am happy. also the laptop isnt particularly burning,...the cooling seems to be good..
-
Great to hear Daniv!!!
-
-
-
This is a big step up from previous AW models IMO.
-
-
I found out, they play em, they tell you to get a blu ray player and 1090p for the best high def experience.
-
Well, I just found some good info about the blu-ray: here's the link in case u wanna take a look
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/248457-33-tomshardware -
If anyone interested I tested stealth mode yesterday while listening a movie. I was in powersaver mode + stealth and I ended up getting to the 10% mark after exactly 2:51. I dont think the fan ever powered up during that time so all you could ear is the hard drive spinning if you have the ear on the keyboard. I had all light turned off but wireless was still on.
-
Sweet, pretty good battery life then!
-
anyone here got the xtreme processor. I just wanna ask if you can overclock it. is it possible on the m15x?
-
A dead pixel just appeared on my screen
guess my m15x is going to make another trip to Florida since its right in the middle of the screen. Im probably going to wait a little before sending it back and have it repaired since I really need it right now. I might also try to have them change the top case part, since it came with a little scratch out of the box.
-
-
If your native screen is 1920 x 1200 then everything will not be sharp if u change the res to 1440x900. The native resolution is best.
-
Beside 15" on a 1920 x 1200 for shooter is a disadvantage. Unless your screen is 17" and above, everything becomes very small. The smaller your enemies running around the harder to kill them
Its also a sniper nightmare.
Just my own opinion -
The costs are too many for me. Think about it, the screen alone needs to render about 2x as more pixels as with the 1440x900 screen (Think about the wear on the GPU and fans). Games frame rates are teh sux to be sure :S. Also the 1920 has no clearview technology, yes it is glossy but will not get as bright as the 1440 clearview, go check out comparison on the Alienware 9750 info under clearview.
Bottom line though its a matter of preference and there are people who would not change the 1920 rez for anything else. As for myself I opted for 1440x900. IMHO more economical overall and suffice enough for what I will be doing. Sides I have a 22 HD monitor at home I could always plug it into -
-
uh... i wouldn't send it back unless it's so horribly annoying that you can't live with it. there is always a chance the new screen could have a few dead pixels on the outside of the screen, being far worse and non exchangeable. the choice is yours of course though.
my m15x also had a couple of paint blemishes, but they're hardly noticable. -
-
I can't wait to buy my m17.. any ideas on the pricing for the m17 guys?
-
We've got a thread for m17x pricing.
-
However it's good that the battery life is long. That's what is most important to me.
I hope you get it fixed right. -
Hey, how would you connect the m15x to a printer?... throgh the HDMI port? or it only can be made by placing a Printer express card adapter into the... Express card reader?...
-
hemlock, do you have the additional smartbay battery too? Or did you manage 2:50 with just one 6cell?
-
Single battery I wouldn't be surprised to see people hit 6h+ battery life with smart bay since you can use 100% of it.
-
wow, nice! So 2.5 hours should be no problem while word processing/adobe pdf viewing? (this is what i will be using it for while mobile in lectures, etc)
i dont' keep wifi on during that either -
-
Arghh.. I cant wait any longer..
I just took the plunge and order the M15X a min ago.
Wanted the black one but the more I read this forum the weaker my resistance. In the end .. I JUMP... -
-
Hey guys, just wondering how the speakers are on the m15x ?
