I know considering some of the posts on here about how AW's support has no clue what an m15x even is, I made a call and specifically asked about the 1920x1200 LCD. It IS CLEARVIEW as well, NOT MATTE finished... Just thought I'd throw that out there... I'm out of town until saturday, but mine will be waiting for me when I get home! :D

Well I called and asked that question and got several different answers, but after contacting a supervisor who had held and seen the 1920x1200 he says that it IS THE SAME SCREEN AS IN THE m5550 FOR SURE.

To my knowledge, a 1920x1200 does not even exist for a laptop at this point. The rep did tell me, "AW is working on that option, so it may become available in the future." He thought I wanted the the glossy, which I do not, so he was trying to explain that I should hold out on making a purchase if I wanted the glossy.

Untill someone holds one in there hands from this forum and tell us otherwise, I believe that the 1920x1200 will be matte.

This is the exact e-mail I got from the rep:

"Hi, I hope you are doing.

We are having too many customers asking for the Clear view Technology in the m15x, this option is available ONLY for the WXGA 1440x900 LCD. If you choose the WUXGA 1920x1200 LCD you will NOT have the Clear view Technology.

The Area 51 m15x that we have here has the 1920x1200 LCD and doesn’t have the Clear view technology, I’m checking with Miami to see if we are going to offer that option later on.

    I’ll keep you posted."

This is my understanding from talking to them on the phone... Both screens are glossy but the 1440x900 is the ONLY one with the Clearview technology which basically makes the screen brighter. This is why clearview is not given with the 1920x1200 option. This is what theyve told me numerous times :S

Personally I went with the 1440x900 even though I am doing Graphic design. Thing is I think its enough with better frame rates and less strain on the machines graphic processing powa. Sides IMO the 1920x1200 seems way to tiny for me but I guess its a matter of getting adjusted to it, one of those "Once you go ______ you never go back!" haha

I agree, no member of the public will know untill someone from the forums has it in their hot little hands and answers the $1,000,000.00 question.

Yeah, I loved the first line too...That was not a copy and paste error on my part. ;)

Well it looks like I'm one of the only jackasses that got the 1920x1200, but I'm still standing behind my choice. I believe it will come in really handy in my Industrial Design classes. I rarely play games on PC, but I will pick up some choice games because of this laptop. I know 1920x1200 will hurt my experience, but not enough for me to truly notice. That's my ignorant opinion and I'm sticking to it...

You just gave a good reason for choosing the 1920x1200 screen, so why are you calling your own opinion ignorant? After all not everyone is using this laptop for the same purpose.

Awesome thanks for the real world bench. Could you run the stress test? The reason I am asking is because it will help me decide which processor to go with because CS:S is very CPU limited. On my xps m1710 with 2 gig ram and 7900GTX on XP I get about 130 FPS at 1900 by 1200 with NO AA. With full AA/AF I get about 112FPS on the stress test. This unfortunately makes playing on some areas drop to the 30's (cs office outside) and high 20s (militia) and I know it is because of my CPU (1.83ghz). I just want to see what kind of upgrade it will have. Vista I hear does slow the game down.

Haha, I wasn't expecting someone to come my defense, this forum is cool! I'm just a little inebriated, that's all. I guess you're right. I have almost no knowledge of Processor power nor do I know anything about RAM. I just knew I wanted something that would last for a few years, so I got as much RAM as Vista could handle, and I got the second best processor cause I read somewhere that quad core won't reach it's full potential for a while or so, so for now it's just a glorified Dual Core... I knew I wanted as much real-estate as possible for school and drafting so I guess, in the screen department, I made the right choice... Whoulda thunk it!

If anyone interested I tested stealth mode yesterday while listening a movie. I was in powersaver mode + stealth and I ended up getting to the 10% mark after exactly 2:51. I dont think the fan ever powered up during that time so all you could ear is the hard drive spinning if you have the ear on the keyboard. I had all light turned off but wireless was still on.

A dead pixel just appeared on my screen :( guess my m15x is going to make another trip to Florida since its right in the middle of the screen. Im probably going to wait a little before sending it back and have it repaired since I really need it right now. I might also try to have them change the top case part, since it came with a little scratch out of the box.

Well if you have the money the 1920x1200 res will always be the better choice because you can always set (through display properties menu) 1440x900 res for normal use, and then switch it to 1920x1200 res for gaming, movie and photo editing... So, If you have the 300 bucks you should go for the 19x12 and thats it

If your native screen is 1920 x 1200 then everything will not be sharp if u change the res to 1440x900. The native resolution is best.

Beside 15" on a 1920 x 1200 for shooter is a disadvantage. Unless your screen is 17" and above, everything becomes very small. The smaller your enemies running around the harder to kill them :) Its also a sniper nightmare.

    Just my own opinion

Yeah I agree w/ everything you say Rexi, I saw a 15 inch with 1920x1200 resolution... everything was soo tiny and the difference graphic wise is not noticable in anyway. The ONLY benefit I see is it offering more realestate, but even then I cant imagine using a program like 3DS max and Maya and getting much benefit from it compared to the 1440. Photoshop on the other hand I can acknoledge as having 2 windows open at once is a nice feature that will help with image editing.

The costs are too many for me. Think about it, the screen alone needs to render about 2x as more pixels as with the 1440x900 screen (Think about the wear on the GPU and fans). Games frame rates are teh sux to be sure :S. Also the 1920 has no clearview technology, yes it is glossy but will not get as bright as the 1440 clearview, go check out comparison on the Alienware 9750 info under clearview.

Bottom line though its a matter of preference and there are people who would not change the 1920 rez for anything else. As for myself I opted for 1440x900. IMHO more economical overall and suffice enough for what I will be doing. Sides I have a 22 HD monitor at home I could always plug it into :D

uh... i wouldn't send it back unless it's so horribly annoying that you can't live with it. there is always a chance the new screen could have a few dead pixels on the outside of the screen, being far worse and non exchangeable. the choice is yours of course though.

my m15x also had a couple of paint blemishes, but they're hardly noticable.

Yeah I was thinking about it and since I took full warranty I can get it changed whenever in 3 years. I'm prolly going to live with it until I have a good moment where I don't need my computer. Its not really annoying since its really small but its definably there :(

Man, that is very disappointing indeed, hemlock. You've not even had it for a week yet, and a dead pixel appears...and of all places in the center of the screen.

However it's good that the battery life is long. That's what is most important to me.

I hope you get it fixed right.
