Do not insult yourself by stating that you're wasting my time. Heheheh, don't worry about it bro.

hemlock i take it ur gettin that time in stealth mode correct?
-
Just received my system and I am very pleased. I didn't get the mesh cap, but AW left a note stating that the caps are on backorder. AW also didn't have my name engraved on the name plate, but put agent # XXXXXX (customer id #). These are minor complaints so hopefully i won't have a hard time with their customer service in having another name plate sent to me. Hopefully all is well with everyone who received their m15x and congrats to those who just placed their order.

now that people are getting their units i wanna see them come out with the freakin skull cap and black options... thats the only thing thats keeping me waiting.
-
hey btw, alienware lied about the height of the case (with the lid closed i guess!!???) its 1 1/2'' on the front and 1 5/8'' in the back...!!!??
-
is somebody pleased with the volume control!!?? ;-) it is totally useless! (not that i cant adjust the volume in windows..but ..why put that feature in?)
-
Just got mine today! Has anyone had a problem playing Crysis and the tool bar shows at the bottom of the screen? How do I get rid of it? Thanks in advance! Also I have the 1440x900lcd
-
-
-
The volume slider work its just weirdly made like you have to use it sliding from the power button instead of the + sign.
-
I didnt have the tool bar when I played...it runs GREAT though!

I just got my m15x and I am actually thinking of returning it.
When I decided to go with the M15x, it was becasue i finally thought I could have power matched with portability.. ie have my cake and eat it too!
Now that my unit has arrived, I am not so sure about that. THe unit is 25% thicker than advertised. I can;t believe Alienware would say the height of their unit is 1.3" and then deliver something that is 1.6 to 1.7 inches high.
They say it weighs 7 lbs and it actually weighs 7.8 lbs with the battery installed.
The power brick to run the thing is HUGE- FREAKIN HUGE - If I keep it I will use my targus travel charger instead - worked fine on the airplane and weighs only .6lbs vs the Alienware charger weight of 1.6 lbs
Not sure i have the side lights but thats another issue.
I am happy with the performance no doubt, but I have to ask myself is this something I want to carry around with me everywhere just so I Can play crysis on the road. (I travel 12-14 days a month)./ Had it been as advertised I would be saying yes. Now, I am not sure.
Anyone else having these thoughts or am I the only heavy traveller using this machine?
I also noticed my speaker volume is extremely low, the volume slider control is almost useless, and the touch sensitive buttons dont always respond when the laptop comes out of sleep mode. Also I get the blue screen of death everytime I finish playing Crysis, but that is a driver issue that I am sure will be resolved.
Comments? -
they dont include the rubber feet in the height measurement, you could always remove these if it's too big. although that would be even weirder.
companies never include the battery in the weight, or at least not when i bought my ibm a few years back. it would say "under x.x lbs*" and the * would say "without battery" or "with 6 cell installed, for more hours use the 9 cell".
the power brick is not huge, have you seen the size of other gaming notebook's power bricks? granted, it's 2x the size of my T41 brick, but that was also a 14 incher that was made for portability- not gamining. that's why the nintendo wii's power brick, or the ps2 slim, are small, while the 360 has a huge one.
side lights- this is blatant false advertisement depending on when you ordered, i would be upset over this if you ordered when the side had them in the photos.
the touch controls suck, but they still work. nothing is perfect, and i agree with you that they should have just used tactile buttons if they didn't have these perfect. i'm playing crysis on an 8700- no lockups/blue screens- something must be wrong.
i don't see why you would have ordered this laptop if you were going to be taking it with you. it's still more of a desktop replacement, but any laptop that has the guts like this, is going to be on the heavy side.
return it if you're not happy, but just remember they might charge you 15% to restock AND also charge you to ship back.
i'm really sorry to hear you don't like your unit, if you do return it, what do you think you will end up getting? -
MRwaters I appreciate the comments thx. The height measuremets were taken without including the rubber feet. If I included the rubber feet that would have incresed the size even more.
I know the powerbrick needs to be bigger but this seems big to me - its not a deal breaker because as I said my little targus adapter runs the machine just fine and is less than half the size.
My biggest beef is the height and the weight not being as advertised. All weights include one battery- always - on everysite for every computer manufacturer. I'm gonna carry it around with me for a few days and see if I can live with it.. .I really do love the machine on its own, just have to see if I can live with the bulkiness of it.
Cheers -
westcoastgeek, are you saying the notebook is height 1,6-1,7 without rubber feet? so how much height is it wih them? what about other sizes?
anyone else notice the same thing? -
for height comparison there is a nice thread with good picts there. I would agree though if you're going to carry it around with you a lot it doesnt sound like the winner laptop but still sounds like the best imo. I have a macBook for traveling since when I travel I'm supposed to be working (and reading forums lol).
-
The m15x is larger (not necessarily thicker) than other standard 15.4" laptops, that's for sure. I do alot of travelling for work as well, and I'm used to carring around my 17" E1705...coming from that laptop, this one is welcome because its smaller and lighter. As far as thickness goes, it's just as thick as other "standard" sized laptops of a year or two ago. But if you were looking for an even more travel friendly unit, then the M1530 or Macbook or something similar might be the laptop for you.
As for me, I just wanted something smaller & lighter than my E1705. Getting the 8800M GTX in that smaller size combined with the option to boost battery life to that of ultraportables was the real kicker for me. -
Does anybody got the blu-ray driver?.... wanna know if you had any problem running games, like crysis or CofD 4 or anything else you notice about the blu-ray.
-
WITH the rubber feet the laptop is 1.625" at the front and 1.75" at the back.
WITHOUT the rubber feet the unit is 1.5" - 1.575" in height or aprox 21% larger than advertised.
I'll play with the machine this weekend. Carry it around for a bit and make a decision next week. I think I would be eleigeable for a full refund given that it is not the unit as advertised. -
think at that. I measured my ASUS with rubber feet. from spec it is 2,5 to 3,8 (o,985"to1,497") cm height, while it is 3,7 to 4,6 (1,458to1,812"). it should be a thin & light performance notebook. and it is! it's very thin, even if from spec it was thinner. the m15x is even more thin!
I don't know about the weight -
I travel alot too and M15X is the only laptop in the world right now that can give me the power and portability. There is no next available.
Dun even think of any other 15" gaming notebook. It may save you a few grams & inches but u loose more than 90% of the fun when gaming. U loose all the details in a game. All the explosion with debris flying and the wrinkles of your buddies are gone. Damn U cant even see the grass on a field, let alone the dances of the trees in the battlefield when the wind blow north in Medieval II. U will only see a patch of green color. It reminds me playing Doom on my IBM.
Oh man I guess i over exaggerated. hahahhha. -
just a question guys should i buy a 9 cell battery or is it similar to the 6 cell battery in terms of performance? Just asking because i would have wanted to buy a 9 cell normal battery and a 6 cell smart bay battery
kind of long for a question -
maybe 9cells battery is bigger and comes out from the bottom
-
that was my main concern because i wouldn't want it to stick out too much
maybe i should ask AW what do you guys think
after reading this forum I can see that the reps are a bit clueless -
-
maybe they advertise only the case??
btw, for the hw it offers, I think it's good! -
is the 4gb worth getting for that price? and any1 know when the skullcap is supposed to come out... i know that its in the thread here but cant find it.
-
If you don't feel comfortable installing ram yourself, yes. If you do feel comfortable, buy 4gb for $100 on newegg and install it yourself. Just depends on you....
Still no date on skullcap -
... The ram are also different speeds.
-
Quick quetion anyone please! I noticed that in the device manager it shows my processor as the 1.8gz T7100 even though I have the 2.4gz and that is what the welcome center shows.....sooooo which is it? Anyone else have this problem?
-
So, I'd say go to Computer->Properties and see what it says there -
Got the 1920 x 1200 w/ 8800gtx today. I do like the matte (non-glossy) surface.
-
Thanks, I tried that and it says nothing when I right click computer and then properties. All it says is general and computer??

Thanks again GRB! That's what I have too except mine is only the 2.4. I still think that it is strange to show the two 1.8's in tghe device manager as my XPS M1710 shows the correct processor.
-
well... the screen is matte. I was expecting a glossy display like on my older 17" xps system so this was a nice surprise. Text is easily readable. The only game i've thus far is WOfW which looks fantastic. Only minor complaint is that the display does not seem quite as bright on full setting as my Macbook Pro.

Just to let you guys know, there is a patch out that can enable the side lights on your m15x, so if you dont have it there is a thread for it yay!@!!!
-
what kind of wireless router are you guys using for your new m15x?
-
Thank G_D IT IS MATTE!!!
Thank you for your post. This question has been out there for a while now. Please give us any other thoughts on the screen as you are the first from these forums to get the 1920x1200.
Thanks! -
Why is matte better for the higher res? I would have thought glossy would be preferred
-
It's possible that the screen is matte just because a 15" glossy screen in that resolution might not even exist. -
Ah ok. Thanks for the info!
-
-
Super glad I went with the 1440 x 900 Rez! was very close to getting the 1080P one since I want to use mostly for Graphic design. BUT I figured the lower rez screen had more pros than cons IMO. Would have also been a mistake for me since I enjoy brighter and glossy screens, specially for gaming ^^. What dissapoints me is that alienware rep said the higher rez screen was also glossy just didnt have Clearview, whats new eh? -
Velacio, did you install the side light patch!!!
