please, let us know if there are light leakages or something! let us know how the colours are in your opinion! a little bit less brightness is not so awful! the important thing is that the colours are unifom, that there's no light leakage where there is the backlight, even if you watch it from angles, and finally that it has good visual angles!
    please let us know ;)

Do you guys think it's possible alienware will not release the 2.0 & the 2.2 processors for the 8800 GTX? Like offer the 1499 model w/ just the 8600-8700. I've been pondering this because usually with alienware products, as I recall, theres usually only 3 processor upgrades max. Maybe I'm mistaken, have similar marketing type things happened with alienware in the past? just curious, thx

To those that bought the higher res screen, any regrets? How are games running with the higher res? Text too small or anything like that?

gaming very nice thus far on hi res screen... very crisp graphics. I was afraid that text would be harder to read but have not found this to be the case while gaming. View angle is also very good. No light leakage issues here either with side light patch.

No, this is completely false. AW has now made this patch official. If you search under the knowledge base the term "light pipe" you will receive a result which links you to the patch.

@ Dawnkeeper Funny thing is I ordered mine the day it was available to order on the alienware website. I stumbled onto it by accident (was gunna order a m9750). Then i saw this lil beauty. I sat there for a good 3hrs wondering if i should place an order. Then it hit me i aignt luggin around a 17inch notebook so bam ordered it. Said my lil friend was suppose to arrive on the 4th of feb when i completed the order (arrived on the 8th of feb), but hey it aignt perfect and i totally understand since i live in Hawaii.

I just wanted to respond to this opinion.

Think about it dude, two 15inch screens, one at 1440 and one at 1920 both displaying the same game image. The enemies are the same size. There are just more pixels drawing him.

Take two identical photos and display them at the same size. One has 1Megapixel and the other has 6. The image is the same only less resolution. I went for the 1920 because I need the real-estate.

True it is pretty high-density for a 15inch, but that could only add to the realism of games that run full speed. I'm not only playing new games like the Witcher and Crysis, but it will benefit my older games like Eve-Online and almost every program I use from premiere, photoshop etc.

When my eyes are tired I can lower the resolution and the slight blurring won't bother me personally. In many cases with good AA and AF as long as the game runs at a solid 60 fps the resolution can become much less important to the visual experience. Preference is personal of course.

I bought my system friday and the estimated ship date is February 28th 2008. I am also new to this system, but I thank everyone who put this section together this kinda inspired me to buy the notebook.

I have a question though; is it a mistake that I bought the WXGA or is that in your opinion a better choice than the WUXGA? I just the WUXGA didnt have ClearView while the other or should I upgrade if I plan to watch HQ anime on it?

    Thanks

YES! I CALLED ALIENWARE SALES AND ASKED THEM ABOUT THE BLACK SKULLCAP FOR THE m15X. GUESS WHAT THE GUY SAID?

    "It's coming SOON."

    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Their headquarters has told them that it's coming soon but they don't have an exact date.

More importantly, I asked the guy if it could come before the end of February, and he said yes it very well could! (but no guarantees, of course)

    omg!!!! How exciting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also: Why do we need a patch for the side lighting? Didn't they already work? MrWater's laptop had side lighting.... (see pictures on page 5 of this thread)

And I bet Crysis checkmates the mx15x and will make it cry. Unless youre talking about the lower resolution screen running the 2.8Ghz and everything set to medium. :)

My home system will just bearly make it stable at 1680x1050 with everything on high (not ultra) and I'm running a Quad 3Ghz, 8800gtx OC w/2gb ram. Tried it in both Vista and WinXP. Its playable but not ultra smooth. So I doubt this laptop will rock at the highest settings.

I have the M15x and Crysis makes it scream but it doesn't cry lol..

Running in DX9 I can average 22-28 fps with all seeting to High at 1440x900, in DX10 I lose about 3-4 fps..

But it is still quite playable. And I haven't changed any of the Config files yet.

Yeah, while skullcap may look like everyone else's alienware, ripley looks like everyone else's laptop -- which is to say, the skullcap design is still way more distinctive than the ripley look.

That isn't to say ripley sucks (well, obviously not, I bought it ;) ) but it is undeniably more traditional, but for me personally I prefer that sleeker uncomplicated look. As I implied though, it's all just a personal choice -- I would've bought the m15x even if ripley weren't offered (still way better than the ugly M1730 I was *this* close to buying just because of a lack of options)

You really believed me when I said that the m15x would pwn Crysis? lol
It will run it well, but not on maximum settings. And for a 15" notebook this is the best performance you can get right now. And this m15x can easily outrun most 17 inchers. If it weren't for SLI in the 17"...so to speak.

search "crysis ultra high" on youtube for more. Besides, if no system could play Crysis at ultra high, how could the developers make ultra high? They wouldn't've been able to test it ;)
