Damn, that's a nice vid. You are right, it CAN be done...but, you need 3-way SLI though. How, can this be compared to a 15" notebook?
-
-
That's why it will still be a generation or two before anything normal can run it well. Not too many people will spring for tri-sli.

MY lappy plays crysis just fine, of course not at Ultra settings. But my desktop can handle it just fine.
QX6850 @ 3.6 ghz
Vista 32/64: XP 32
4 Gigs of ram
150 Gig Raptos in RAID 0
880gtx in SLI. Slight OC (New upgrade from Dual GTS 640mb)
I can still manage to get playable fps on MAX settings.
It is quite posible. But nothing over 30 fps, unless it's tri or quad SLI. -
Is that on Ultra High settings?
-
I have never seen Crysis on Ultra High settings, in real life before.. only vids on Youtube. Wonder what that's like. Must be awesome.

Well, after two days of excellent performance. My alienware has crashed. After about 15 hours of evaluating, it looks like its a hardware issue with my RAM or Hard Drive, most likely ram. (I also received a broken keyboard). Multiple blue screens out of nowhere = fun. They are sending out a technician to replace the keyboard and ram and to further analyze the problem if the memory isn't the issue. But if thats the case, I'll be returning this for either a brand new machine of a brand new machine from a different company. To say I'm frustrated is an understatement--especially when I spent almost 4 grand on this computer.
-
N -
This sucks. keep us updated.
-
Here's the whole, long, story:
(note: each blue screen error was different... every time)
The computer seemed fine and the last time I used it--it shut down completely normally. Then when I went to boot it again, the computer would begin loading vista (with the green bar at the bottom) and then would flash a blue screen and shut down. This happened twice, so I ran system restore which fixed the problem (temporarily). I loaded the pc back up it was running fine, I was browsing the web for about 15 minutes till it crashed with another blue screen.
I finally called alienware and asked for support. The first guy I got named Steve (I think) was very helpful and we ran the windows repair cd that came with the computer and I was able to boot up the machine normally and run it without crashing. However, the next time I turned the machine on it crashed while loading vista again. After lots trial and error I finally discovered the if I ran the fix-it cd for vista, I could solve the problem as long as I didn't shut down the computer.
This lasted for a few hours.
But then I decided to close the lid--when I reopened the notebook the computer was frozen and I was forced to shut it down.
Blue screen while loading vista again.
This time I did another system restore even further back. Problem seemed to be fixed. I booted up the computer and windows started installing windows updates... needless to say it rebooted my computer automatically but while trying to do so froze while configuring updates before shutting down.
Next, I ran AlienRespawn to totally reset the computer. I went downstairs to watch the Suns-Sonics game and when I came back the computer was showing a bluescreen. Since that point, the computer has been unable to boot past the bios. It cannot even begin to load windows.
At this point I called alienware and we ran the fix-it cd again but tested the memory diagnostics. As soon as it began to run, the program detected hardware errors but the customer service agent insisted that I end the program before we could see the report so I could open up the computer and play with the ram. At this point, I told him no and that he needed to either let me ship the computer back for them to fix or they can send someone out.
The 2nd call I had with support was long and tedious, I waited about 30 minutes on hold before actually speaking to anyone and I believe that the person I spoke too was totally incompetent.

So, fed-ex is currently shipping to me 4 gigs of ram and a new keyboard. Once I get those things, I will hear from a technician to schedule an appointment. I will keep you guys posted. -
Thanks for sharing - hopefully AW will get it sorted out for you. Definitely sounds like a memory problem to me. Then again, the fact the keyboard is wacky makes me wonder if the mainboard is defective all around.
N -
I have had bad luck with computers pretty much my whole life. All I had installed on this puppy was: Steam (ep2, portal, cs:s), SWG, JK2, JK3, Itune, Thunderbird, and Firefox. Ugh. I can only pray that it is a memory problem.
-
Hmmmm! Strange that AWs "200-Point Quality Control Process" did not notice a damaged keyboard. Was the box it came in damaged?
-
-
N -
Strange .... do not hope this is AW standard .... I will freak!
-
I hear you man...
And, I also hope that once I buy my m15x, that I won't run into the same troubles. Sometimes, these unfortunate things happen because of the shipping. Yea, even with all the padding in the packaging. -
kwsqd: maybe it's because of the shipping
I'm sure AW will solve your troubles! think so: other brands would have asked you to send the notebook, and then maybe they would have fixed it! or (not) fixed it, hiding what they've done (so they can tell you it didn't have problems, giving you a working machine)! in a few days I'm sure you will have a perfect machine -
-
Does anyone know how long it takes for Alienware to do AVS check? (a name and address check on the card). I have been in phase 1 some days now.
-

I'm sure neither AW thought this notebook would have had this popularity -
Hey If anyone here has crysis you need to try this.
If you do not have vista it is ok, because it will enable you to have ultra high settings. This is no joke, I just tried it on my pc, and i run xp, and it WORKS. Plus it is actually more optimized, All you have to do is copy the file into the crysis game folder. If it worked all of the advanced settings will be set to custom, except for a few. If you have vista try it also, you might be able to get a much better frame rate. I have a 2.4 ghz cpu and 2 nvidia geforce 7900's running in sli. I believe that the m15x will probably be able to run the game much better than my pc.

Guys, make sure to back up your old file before rewriting it...
-
he gave me his personal e-mail, and told me to ask what I need, so he will answer to me!
Congrats AW GOOD WORK!
sorry, OT, but things like these don't happened every day and for every brand -
Well that's good to hear WLF46WLF. I think that when your are willing to spare 3,000 usd on a laptop the customers would expect this kind of service so we didn't have to worry about units-arriving-in-good-conditions or any help we need. I think it's a good sales strategy by AW since most of their sales will be from referred people.
-
At least since they are reading the board they know how badly we want a release date for the m17x.
-
and for the black ripley design
-
Good Afternoon AW customer service:
Can u tell me sir/mdm if the m15X is upgradable. Since its already using the MXM2.0 standard. Will we be able to get the 9800GTX from AW. Of course we will buy from you sir.
Beside that we will also name u MAN OF THE YEAR 2008. -
do you think that m15x at ces2008 had 1080p screens?
for example: http://www.engadget.com/photos/hands-on-with-alienwares-area-51-m15x-and-m17x-laptops-2/498263/
look at the light from bottom! I'm worried to get the same problem I have with my actual crapp notebookand I need 1920x1200. besides, 1440 version doesn't seem to suffer this problem, right?
-
That's not bad light leakage, that's just Alienware's seventh lighting zone
edit: that's a glossy screen, the higher res screens are matte. So no, it isn't a 1080p screen. -
yes, you're right!

if you order now, you have to wait a month. from 1-25, maybe you will receive it in ten days. what was your original shipment date?
-
Would you be able to hook this up to your m15x???
the model IV version is nice but the model II has 4quadros. Hmm. Im pretty sure the IV would do fine. Especially for all of my rendering and animation needs.

supposed to be 'in my hands' by next thurs -
I didn't even understand what the Nvidia Quadro-Plex is, and what it does..... Is it also for laptops? or just dekstop? is this something you install inside or do you connect this outside the unit ( I know i could figure this from the pictures, but who knows!, maybe they enlarge the pictures too much!).
-
My order was confirmed on the 24th or the 25th I believe. I just checked my status and it is still in phase 4. Yesterday they told me that it would ship on the 21st. Is there anything you can tell me???
