I wouldn't trust the phase status page too much. It still says I'm on phase 4, but my machine is with FedEx and will be here in 2 days. I ordered on 2/7 and my estimated ship date was 2/28. :D

AW emails it to you in their shipping confirmation (however if you live in Canada, like me, then you won't get a shipping confirmation and you just have to guess ;) )

Absinthe (and anyone else waiting on a 1200p screen, like myself),

i ordered on Jan 28th. Estimated shipping date was Feb 25th. However, mine may not leave phase 4 until Feb 25th at this point... reason being that they were on backorder with the chasis and a new shipment came in yesterday. My notebook wasn't fortunate enough to benefit from the new shipment so i have to wait until the next one.. which comes Feb 25th (or slightly earlier).

I too have been in phase 4 for at least a week or so now. Call in and get your order status on the phone ... if you're also still waiting for that notebook chasis (which is specific to the 1200p screen) then you may also be in the same waiting boat as myself, and we may not get our laptops until sometime in March.

I don't think they counted on so many orders. Look at the delays they had at the start. Not enough gpu's, blu-ray drives, smart bay accessories, or high res screens. They've had quite a few issues.

I ordered the build below on 2/2 with a projected ship date of 2/19. I was in Phase 4 all last week, then in Phase 3 this morning. I called them and CS said that it it actually in production, and that the keyboard delays should not set things back more than 1 day. It is supposed to ship near the middle of next week.

The time it takes to move from phase to phase varies. Don't trust what the site says, call them for a more accurate update. Or, forget about the phases and just go by the estimated ship date you were given.

For most of us in the first contingent of m15x orderers, it wasn't assembly itself that took a while, but the testing phases (more specifically, phase 6). However, this is suspected to have been caused by some software incompatibilities with the 8800 that they only discovered during manufacture -- and presumably, therefore, all current orders shouldn't have to deal with that issue.

Hopefully it should be only a few days, but there's no way for me to know that

OMG is it really true you can overclock the Intel® Core™ 2 X7900 2.8GHz – Extreme Edition to 3.4 ghz. I have been reading about it and eveything points to that!!

yeah, except for the fact that newfiejudd has it and AW doesn't provide you with the supposed-to-be-built-in BIOS commands that let you overclock it. Whether or not AW will ever update the BIOS to handle it is up in the air, but as of right now, you can't take advantage of that feature.

That doesn't make any sense. Is there any way around that.
Isin't there software which allows you to overclock the cpu without going into the bios..

So for all you owners of the M15x, how does the screen size feel when compared to a 17"? I've never owned a laptop and went into bestbuy the other day and wasnt too sure about the size. Is it a comfortable size for gaming? I appreciate the feedback.

i think its fine. correct me if im wrong but its 15.4", that 1.6" smaller than 17". i could care less about that. i get a smaller laptop this way. and since it has all the video ports i can plug into any tv or monitor.

For your sake, I hope they ship it today. If they don't, that means you have a 3 day weekend (President's Day) where they probably won't ship until next Tuesday. I live in LA, and AW shipped mine on the 1st (Friday), arrived on the 6th (Wednesday).

I just got a reply from AW about the phase thing.

    Here is the reply:

    Greetings from Alienware!

We are glad to inform you that your order is currently in the Assembly stage (Phase 5).
We would also like to inform you that the shipping lead time you were given when you placed the order is still in effect (2/28/2008).

On the other hand, we would like to ask you to please disregard the information that you received from our website notification system stating that your order had gone back to Phase 3. Unfortunately, there has been a glitch in our notification system and the information you received was not accurate. This matter has already been taken to the corresponding department, and they are working to fix the problem as promptly as possible.
We would like to apologize for this misunderstanding.

We hope this information has been helpful to you.

As soon as we have further information about your order, we will inform you via email.

So just stick to the estimated shipped date.

from what I have read very high will not be playable. The good thing about 1440 by 900 native is that crysis on high plays decently from what I have read. I finally sorted out my issues with AW and they realized some mistakes they have made (posted in another thread) and I placed my order 3 days ago. I am on phase 5 :)

why can you not use very high settings???, Are they not accessible??
There is a patch I used on mine, which requires you to only copy one file in the root folder. I do not have vista, but the file allows for all the settings to be set to a thing called custom. This has enabled all of the high dynamic range lighting as well as all teh special effects. I would like someone here to try it.
I feel that with vista, and the strong processor and gpu, the game will run great.
