I'm not gonna lie dude - A lot of people are way to optimistic about the m17x's price..... It's Alienware. The m17x with dual 8800 gtx's will be $4200+

someone with the C2D Extreme processor and either with normal C2D processors, can please post his notebook's battery life? you don't need to completely discharge your battery!

please check the power consumption with everest, or RMClock: in the "battery section" you can check the instant power consumption (mWh). try the test with max power saver for the processor (multiplier @ minimum), stealth mode (GPU only downclocked), no bluetooth or wireless, screen at minimum step of brightness, so we can compare results! finally we can determine if the extreme processor will have less battery life, even with max power saver ;)

I AM going mental! I'm just sitting here taking this abuse, meanwhile the cost of hardware is going down practically every week and they're offering upgrades like the Penryn and I'm getting the shaft. I've nearly cancelled my order several times now but I've also heard horror stories about refunds and also I'd lose $200-300 with exchange rate fluctuations. BTW I already went through that back in Nov when they cancelled my m9750 order without warning. It turns out I accidentally forgot to select the province in my shipping address and they treated it as a "security risk" and got raked over the coals with the stupid exchange at that time. (That was when the CAN dollar was at record highs and then dropped back down, worst timing ever!). You think they're address form would have warned me or something? Anyway I'm starting to sound like a whiner so I'll stop for now but man is this p!ssing me off !!

If you haven't received your computer yet, and cancel before it is shipped to you, I don't think you will get charged for that. So, if you are uneasy, I'd say just cancel your order before it's too late.

    I have a question
percentage wise, how much better is the 8600 with 256mb mem than an
nvidia geforce go 6150 with 64mb graphics memory?

I won't get charged by Alienware but I do get charged from the bank. Since Alienware will simply refund the same amount in US that I paid (they won't refund in Canadian). I automatically get charged 2-3%($80-120) from the bank to exchange the money back to CAN. Then whatever the exchange rate changes have been in the past 6 weeks (good or bad; in this case another 3% or $.03/dollar so BAD!). Totalling a $160-$240 loss for no reason. Those sound like small numbers but on $4000 it adds up pretty quickly. So you see my predicament? Plus I don't want to cancel cause that laptop is so damn sweet! I just wish I didn't feel like an abused trailer park wife from a bad movie or somethng lol.

So you do want to keep it. That's weird, did you purchase from the Alienware Canadian website or the US website? Sounds like you are Canadian that bought from the US website.

    btw, trailer park wife.....lol

Hello, I am a new user who registered today, and who is also thinking about buying a Alienware m15X since im looking for a powerfull system but a system which will also offer comfortability during travel and in school ( and stealth mode also gives good Battery Life) . I am also looking for a powerful system since I am planning to enter the work field of 3D animation or Graphic Design. I spent the whole day reading this thread from start to finish to get some info and reviews from the users of this laptop, and came to a conclusion that the m15x is right for me. I'm planing to order this it in the following days.

Of course I'd like to keep it! I've done a lot of research and its the only 15" that has everything I want. I just wish they were a "little" more professional and organized and actually rushed my order like they said. Instead of good customer service the attitude is more like: "We don't need your measily $4000. We have a unique product and if you don't want to grab your ankles for it go somewhere else".

FYI - I am Canadian and I did purchase it from the Canadian site. The only difference on the Candian site is Alienware provides a currency conversion estimate for you. Also the shipping address has the option for province and postal code etc. At the end of the day its still a U.S company and they only deal in U.S funds. The currency conversion happens on the customer's end.

Just outta curiosity for those hard drive know it alls, what kind of performance decrease am i looking at between the 200 16mb cache 7200rpm hd vs the 320 8mb cache 5400rpm? is the difference in speed and cache really going to kill me.
Would love to know any info or good links, thanks a ton guys.

Yes, you'll notice the decrease in performance. When I'm spec'ing a PC, the size of the cache and the speed of the platters are the most important specs. Capacity is the least important to me.

Not necessarily, there was a big discussion on it in a different thread (or maybe earlier in this one) about this. Since the 320 is putting more in a smaller space, it will run close to the same speed as the 200 running at a faster rpm.

I mean in the end am I going to wish i got the faster hard drive with 120 gigs less space? and I do have the need for space, its just that im still willing to consider speed over space. Thanks for taking the time to reply!

With these two drives I doubt you could possibly notice a difference. You actually have a need for space; so, I would definitely go with the 320gb. Plus, it will run cooler.

The 320gb is the way to go

High density means it reads more data in the same amount of space, so even though its 5400rpm vs 7200rpm there wont be much difference

And the new 500gb WD ard drive, ignore that... its 9mm so it wont fit in almost any laptop.

The 320gb will def. give you space, and still have excellent performance.

And 120 vs 320 is ALOT to sacrifice for a couple of seconds in speeds,

Mine stayed in phase 4 for a little over a week (I think) and then, just to make me mad, they moved it back to stage 3 for a day!!!! The next day it was in phase 5 and was only there for a day for me before it skipped to 8. So don't worry, phase 4 is the longest one.

WOW YOU LIVE IN THE SNOWY NORTH LIKE ME :) :) :) im so HAPPY!!!

I have some questions for you GRB.

1.Who delivered it (Fedex or Canada post) EX: Fedex deliver to canada, and from their Canada post takes in. Or Fed ex deliver to your house right away?

    2.How long did shiping take?

    3. SO AW didn't send you a email saying it was shiped out?

    4. Did you get delivered to your house or you have to go pick up from postal store close to you?

5.How did you order? If online how did you order online>? (i mean did you have to pay extra tax or stuff?)

    1. Fedex the whole way

    2. Shipping date was Feb 1, arrived Feb 4 (and while I ordered standard shipping, it appears they may have upgraded me to priority shipping to make up for the fact that all initial m15xes were delayed)

    3. No, nor did they respond to my email that requested a shipping confirmation/tracking number (but I emailed that before I learned AW doesn't send Canadians the email)

    4. Straight to house by Fedex

    5. Online -- you have to choose "Canada" under the country list. I got hit by GST and PST (since AW Canada's hq is in Ontario, and I'm in toronto)

OOO i live in Ottawa. Do you have any ideas if they ship to town/garden houses?

so the Fedex truck came and fedex guy came out of fedex truck in Canada?

Will My system be built in Canada and shipped to me, or will it be built in Miami, shipped to AW CANADA HQ and then to me or straight to me from miami?

EDIT: So you just have to guess when the ALIENWARE PIECE OF GOLDEN SILVER LAPTOP M15X will arive at your place? Can't you call them to see what time they going to send it?

    THanks a TON

just as a side note for the record, I finally got around to uninstalling the infrared remote/keyboard drivers to fix a problem and I had no repercussions for doing so (though I don't know if I can reinstall the drivers). Now I can open the console in Crysis.

so, if you're not using the infrared remotes/keyboards and don't have any plans to ever do so, I would recommend uninstalling those drivers from the device manager.

The same thing happened to me, except the extended version lol. I went from Phase 3 to 4 almost immediately, stayed at Phase 4 for 4+ weeks(yes, more than a month). Then went back to Phase 3 for a day then jumped to Phase 5.
Phase 5 lasted 4 days until I complained, then it went to phase 6.

It stayed at phase 6 for 9 days(including the weekend) and just today I finally got jumped to phase 8. After 43 days it looks like they "may" be ready to ship my order.
All of you please keep your fingers crossed for me, maybe tomorrow is the big day. As an added bonus maybe you won't have to listen to my incessant whining and crying any longer haha. I'm sorry but I'm dying over here!! All I have is a random smart bay battery to give me comfort on those lonely nights at sea ;)

wow that thing is maxxed to the core. If you are mainly gaming I would recommend going with the 2.5ghz penryn and save almost 700 bucks. There will be no difference in gaming as it will be GPU dependent. If you are doing mad encoding/decoding then I "Guess" you can keep that config. Basically with your processor, ram and screen choices I feel like you have over 1,300 bucks in options that you may want to reevaluate.
