You know the drill. Constant calls and hang ups to find the right person. Someone mentioned that finding the right sale representative is like winning the lotto. Haha. Keep trying and you will find the right one that will want to help you instead of trying to rip you off. And I found calling EPP representative more helpful than the regular representatives.
-
Yeah I saw your other post, I'm gonna have to call that dude when, hopefully, 5870 Xfire comes out.
-
How does the ATI 4870 Xfire setup compare to the Nvidia 260M SLI setup? I have used Nvidia for years and am unfamiliar with ATI's current cards.
-
The 4870s are on par with 280s or even 285s. Plus they are much better at benches like vantage.
-
i went from q9000 gtx260m sli to qx9300 @3.1 with 4870s in CF. not a big enough difference to say WOW. personally, i would just stick with 260ms and wait out for something that will make you go WOW.
-
It's not gonna be "WOW" even with 5870s, simply because you run almost all games at max anyway. It can probably only be really noticeable in the few newest and demanding titles.
-
Thank you for the information, I am trying to figure out which system to go with, the Core 2 Duo, or i7. The Core 2 Duo comes with Nvidia, the i7 comes with ATI. The Nvidia's res only is 1440x900, while the ATI's res is 1820x1200 (the same as my P-7805u that I would be replacing).
-
Go with i7 and better screen rez. i7s will be more future proof, plus the M17X-R2 has the RGB LED screen, the best screen as of right now.
Another thing to consider, when the new cards arrive, they will most likely be supported only in R2 (i7) and may never make it to R1. -
So if their is an WLED screen now can you put that in the M17x also like the RGB LED one? Also can a single 5870 work with a M17x R1? Great News by the way!
-
You can buy an RGB LED separately and install it into the R1 and it's gonna work (costly though). As for the 5870s, doubt you can make them work unless you make Dell give you another BIOS update enabling those cards. And since the R1 is going extinct - it's unlikely they gonna do this.
-
Thank you, I will go with the i7, I will start the negotiation process with dell. I did good with Gateway back in the day. I read up on the "How To" on this Thread, I hope to get 20% off. I am choosing this system over the Asus G73JH-A1, from what I have researched the M17X is a solid performer, that has many bells and whistles, it looks like it will run %500.00 more than the Asus.
-
Good choice and good luck!
-
Well then i am thinking that i should of never bought the R1 lol, i am hardly on it much only for gaming, also due to the ssd is just way way too small! I just wanted a great gaming machine, i can't afford an R2 no way at all, well like i said i don't tinker too much around with this stuff, if you i buy one and you come out to help me out then i would appreciate it very much otherwise staying just the way it is. I knew i should of gotten a m15x instead with the LED screen.
-
Something is definately in the works. According the the dell site. Basic site, only the R1 is advertised. Starting Price $1999 (Save $300! :rolleyes) Only option is red, only CPU options are QX9300/T9800, only GPU option is dual 260's, only screen option is 1400x900. Even HDD choices are limited.
I don't know who is in charge of the site, but if you go to dell, and use the drop down menue to alienware you get this.
Alienware site.
http://www.alienware.com/microsite/m11x/m11x.aspx
Now if you go from that site to the top and use the drop down menu to select Products -> Laptops -> M17x you get this. http://www.dell.com/us/en/home/note...efid=laptop-alienware-m17x&s=dhs&cs=19&~ck=mn
The prices are in conflict with each other. So are the options. They need to get everything together and consolidate things. I'm sure the other models are missing options and the prices are tinkered with as well. -
The only way you can use the 8gb of ram on games. If you understand game and what files are being use the Most and Make a ram disk and move the files to the ramdisk. Which been kinda fun. Take a look at this game useing ramdisk. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QbAa0s_-RKo&feature=related

Damnation now i am getting a bit annoyed here! I will wait it out and see what to do, why couldn't they offer WLED in the first place!
-
Site appears back to normal... R2 is back up and still no 5870s available.
-
Just wanted to clear that up. -

I take it back then as I haven't seen the thread yet. Last thread I saw was comparing the difference b/w the R1 and R2 mobos. Connectors were dfferent according to Moo and others.
Doesn't matter to me much but I will say that I am glad there will be an upgrade option down the line for R1 owners.
I am sure scook is ecstatic to hear that! lol -

Read my post above yours
And you should link your post with all that hard work in your sig. -
I had to do the job twice, since didn't know that the BIOS should be reset. But other than that it was a nice surprise. -
-
-
On the R2 1333 memory is not available, earlier the TV tuner was not available, maybe it takes things off when out of stock? But that does not make sense if the build is not until 4/19/10??? Pretty goofy.
-
1333 is available if you select a quad core proc.
-
Cool, thank you
sleey0, thank you for sharing AW stuff too!

So with updates to the existing M15x/M17x to include 5850/5870's (respectively) already in place and high chance the 'i' series ULV processors coming to the M11x (officially) soon, likelyhood of something totally new at the Computex/E3 shows from Dell/Alienware look promising!
-
I dont even see Alienware or Dell at the Computex Exhibitor list..
-
My guess for June:
1. M11X will get a refresh for sure.
2. M15X might get a refresh.
3. M17X will most likely not get a refresh. -
-
What's there to refresh with the M15x? My guess is that the M15x is not in Dell's future plans.
-
Why do you say that Drake? You think the M15X is going to go away?
-
-
It's still an interesting opinion and you might have something there.
In the meantime, theinquirer.net noted that Dell was offering this morning the 740M, 840M processor on the UK website before being removed from the site. HP did this last week. We can only imagine those processors will be available within weeks. -
I agree, what is there to refresh for the M15x? Maybe a new Nvidia GPU if there is one, and some new processor additions. I would be surprised if any of the alienware systems get a complete makeover, like it was from the Area 51s to the current ones.
-
-
I'm ordering an M17x-R2 soon, but when I heard Alienware had reserved a booth, it got me thinking.
Do you think it's time for a refresh to the system? The M17x-R1 came out around June '09, so a June '10 new model would make sense.
I guess the real question is do you think it'd be worthwhile to wait until the end of E3 to order my system? I'm in a bit of a rush to get it, but if it's the difference between getting a new refresh or not, I'll wait. -
they will probably announce the 480m graphics cards or a refresh. A new system probably won't be out till fall.
-
I'm excited to see what they have in store.
Curious to see if they can pull off the 480m -
You can get a preview of 480M SLI in a Clevo x7200 tomorrow @Computex
-
-
I'm still trying to figure out whether or not I should wait to buy my girlfriends M11x. >_<
