I like the idea of carbon fiber and that's why I suggested a special or even a limited edition (let's say 100 pieces).
The price of course would be for those that could afford a special edition, it won't be for everyone.
-
They'd have to offer it at a discounted price for people who purchased m17x's recently though...because that I'd hate if I bought something, than they came out with a new version and some new schmuck with more cash was able to get their hands on a piece of alienware beauty just because he DIDNT buy one of their products. Idk, it wont happen so I'm not sure why I'm making a big deal out of it lol.
-

They made special editions before sooo yes it can happen
Your not thinking logical. Dell just wants to sell. -
Yeah but carbon fiber? I'll bet my m15x right now that that does not happen lol.
Too many versions will hurt the bottom line though because of the law of diminishing marginal returns.
So, perhaps I AM thinking logically and Dell is not?
I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens at E3.
On a side note, was Alienware at Computex? -
No I believe Alienware was not at computex last year.
-
the3vilGenius 3vil knows no fear
I never said carbon fibre. more like a superman version or something like that.
-
Or maybe Ironman version?
-
M21x with triple Crossfire and a desktop Lynnfield.
-
I don't see a market for such PC's.
-
Starting price, 21,000 Dollars. Won't dent your wallet at all.
@ Above, I think it'd fit under the "idiot" demographic.
I wanna see Alienware put up a 480m SLI in the 17 and give the M15x the 5870 Xfire to compete with those new Asus' getting the 470/480. :S
(Probably just a pipe dream though) -
m15x will never get crossfire most likely.
its just too small.
and its always been that way... -
They just upgraded the gpu's in the M15X and the M17X not too long ago, so realistically why would Dell/AW introduce new models?
If I were to speculate maybe the new Core i7 processors, and possibly the 480m for the M17X... -
I'm so happy that I'm happy to stop at the M17x-R2 or R3, whatever it is, whichever one comes with the HD 5870's in CfX.
-
740,840,940 should be coming. Maybe a single 480M or SLI if they give it a bigger powerbrick and better cooling/stronger fans/thicker heatsink.
-
So basically a completel new laptop?
-
Doubtful, Thicker Heatsinks wont require much modification. Bigger PSU will only require another BIOS, same for the CPU's BIOS already support the 480M anyway.
-
And from my understanding the 940 CPU already works in the laptop. I'll find out soon enough as I have both the laptop and 940XM CPU in shipping at the moment.
-
Are you sure? Last time i checked the only laptop with 940XM support was the M15x.
-
It has already been done by a user in the French forums.
-
M17x of this summer two Intel i7 extreme CPUs, 12 G Ram 1333 Mhz, 10 T hard disk, Crosfire HD 5990. That would be my dream and what an evil machine that would be
-
Dell will give you the option of the 480M which will be the only change I think this summer. With a new processor end of the year.
I would still go for crossfire 5870's.
ATI will have a mobile 5970 which will be a handicapped desktop version end of the year I reckon as well. -
I'd sure like to know where to order a 940XM CPU myself. Where would I get one at? It could be I missed a post and am not understanding something here. I just received my M17x R2 w/ 2 5870xFire and am totally satisfied, but I didn't have the patience to wait for the upcoming 940XM, wouldn't mind punching one of these in though http://forum.notebookreview.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
-
Ebay. They sell for around 900 odd dollars QS/ES the OEM's aren't out.
-
The 940XM IS QS, it is made in 3dmark 4870 with cross stock 18,083.
-
So for the M11x will the new Core processors fit in the current casing or do you think they will be re-working the design a bit as well?
-
we shall see what goodies they bring
-
while we kind of know that the m17x-r2 supports 940xm, do we know if the bios lets overclock it ?
-
Its an Extreme processor so i would assume yes.
-
3 new processors are coming within weeks:
-740M
-840M
-940XM
Q1 2011 is when sandy bridge is coming out.
-5970 seems will not show up on the mobile market but some 6XXX version which will use the technology Island. This should be late Q4 2010 or early Q1 2011.
Sources are readily available by googling which is why I did not include them. -
yes you can oc the 940xm but if you can wait the official 940 will be launch in the end of 2010.
-
Says whom? The Intel roadmap says Q3 and there were enough mistakes made in the past few weeks by manufacturer to know they are just around the corner...
-
Ive said it before and I'll say it again, I'd love to see AW fill in the gap between the 11 and the 15. Something larger than the 11 that still maintains the portability and battery life factor, but with a more power.
-
My thoughts exactly. 11 inch screen is just too small.
-
yeah but you know intel they will launch it (to customers) in Q4 2010 some manufacturer have it already.
-
An 'M13x' would be the ideal choice and hopefully they release it within two years when it's time for me to upgrade.
-
it could be a 15. I could see them doing another line with a 13 and 15, that, like I said, maintains the gamer roots (decent performance parts, high user upgradability) but in a slimmer more portable form factor, where battery life is a big concern, so some large battery and switchable graphics are a must. Also maintain the Alienware styling, and colored leds, it'd be great.
-
What's this new processor from Intel "Sandy Bridge"? Is it a completely new processor upgrade line like going from Core2Duo to iSeries or just upgrades to iSeries processor line?
-
Do you think you could throw a 5970m into the m15x if and when its available?
-
Sandy Bridge is said to be an evolutionary step from the current Nehalem architecture.
Basically it will be a revision of the i7, i5, i3 processors. Faster frequency is part of the menu as well as 32nm and in 2012, 22nm processors. -
Is it worth waiting for? I'm on the hunt for my first laptop and don't wanna buy outdated tech, but then again you can spend the rest of your life waiting to purchase as tech just keeps improving
-
Buy the 920xm and the dual 5870's you won't be disappointed. Or you could wait a few more weeks and pick up the 940xm..
Playing the waiting game really sucks take it from someone that waited six months on Xfire 5870's

LamboFreak4ever Notebook Enthusiast
may be New Alienware M17 without the X
-
That would be cool....they could bring back the scullcap also.
-
Ahhh skullcap. They should bring back that rubbery feel to the case. That was kinda' sexy.
Anyone care to speculate on the 'First Look' icon beside Alienware's name on the E3 site? Cpu's, gpu's, desktop, laptop, total redesign, or new model? -
Well many other vendors have it as well so I don't think it means necessarily anything besides some news and rumors pre e3
-
You'd be waiting a long time in computer years, it's still 7months away. It's not worth waiting for unless you're planning on buying in late November/December.
-
Actually they kinda are. The new M11x is now available on the site in Soft Touch black.
Makes me wonder...Since Dell released the M11x R2 before E3, what, if anything do they have planned for E3??
-
So whats the likelihood we can expect the M15x to get the GTX460M anytime soon? Just got the M15x with the 5850, so I'd rather not see a refresh in the next few weeks lol.
-
I expect that the m15x will get the 460m and the m17x will get the 480m SLI at E3. Most likely a redesign for all the sytems and maybe introduce the m13x
-
C'mon dont say that...now you're just making me feel bad
. If something like this does happen, will I be able to exchange my system for the new one? I just got it on June 6.
Totally New Dell/Alienware - Summer 2010? (Computex/E3?)
