Only if it has SLi 480ms, otherwise it should be similar to the M17x-R2 now.

I'd really like to see a Clevo x7200 competitor in that M18X, with a desktop CPU, 480M SLI/ 6870CF and a nice 3D RGB LED (with matte option)
-
I would love to see Dell put a desktop cpu in a laptop. Of course the X58 motherboard will raise the price, but nowhere near as much as having to get an extreme mobile cpu (and it's faster anyways). Also, how about a matte OLED screen!
-
Matte screens are useful for photoshop but not for gaming. Actually I totally hate it for gaming. I have a matte screen on my work PC and it's just not the same. I love the glossy much better for gaming.
-
Joker was also hinting a September/Oct release might be a little too optimistic, at the same time I firmly believe AW will compete with Clevo always and forever, and will make sure to make a competitor notebook ASAP not long after the x7200's release. Reguardless I can wait (gee, think my sig gives that away
), I at least take comfort knowing there WILL be a M18x at some point.
If it has minus RGBLED, and minus metal in its chassis I doubt I will be buying it though. -
m18x, judging by AWs track record, that thing'll be around this size:
-
( included in the gravitational price)
-
Don't put much stock in the M18x rumor. It could be the person was just yanking my chain. When I asked about it all they said was, "not this summer". But hypothetically speaking, if there ever was an M18x, I doubt we'd see it this soon. Personally I'm hoping AW sticks with 16:10 17" with rgb led since I really dislike 16:9 displays.
-
-
For me it will be a great new customizing option the add of a matte screen for people like me which suffer from glare and reflexions. -

The thing is, why change something that is so good anyway....i mean yeah the clevo x7200 has the x2 480m but its as ugly as sin and looks like a brick and will pack out more heat that a trigger happy saddam hussein.....
Im just not buying the "m18x" thing at the moment......too much too soon after release of c/f 5870.....i mean, they gotta sell them 1st! -
Honestly on IPS screens I prefer the glare panels to the non glare. The grainy coatings are just a beast.
I was thinking idly that perhaps the 18" screen would fit in the same size chassis as the current M17x. It would push the limits of edge strengthening, but borderless is gradually becoming the rage. Prefer 16:10 in a notebook, but my desktop 16:9 is quite a joy to game on (U2711) if you get over the sparkles, which you do get used to somewhat.
M17x, one USB 3 port (like the Envy models), dual 480M's (or 5870 CF's if the 480's don't deliver the goods), Quad mini displayport output for multiscreen gaming, digital audio out and I'm ready to buyThen I'm ready for some Diablo 3 action, lol.

I completely agree with you. An 18in screen could fit the current M17X and it would be amazing to finally have laptops which go the way of televisions... No more edges... I should only have a screen in front of me not an inch of border...
This is actually what I hate about he M11X. They could put a 13in on that frame. -
There are too many ways to look at this. -
But only one way is the right way. Everyone better be prepared to look like a giant idiot when Alienware pulls another "We just released the M11x with Core i5-i7 and Optimus a lot quicker than you all thought... oh snap!" Like they just did.

Waiting for the M18x announcement at E3 ...

I have a meeting with Alienware at E3 so I will let you guys know what they have in store.
-
Don't know what to believe on the 480M. That's why I look hopefully, but wait and see. If the 480M doesn't deliver it's not like I can't get the 5870 CF instead. That's the great thing about these things, choices.
I can tell you one thing for sure though, if the 480M SLI comes on a Nvidia chipset, I won't touch it, ever. But I think with the I7's we are past any of that nonsense.
But of course we may have months to wait. Be patient, 940/840/740 I7's are coming. Intel 300GB SSD's are coming. Gradually the right mix, for me, is coming to part me from my $.Which is their job...

Hopefully you can "squeeze" some inside info ( a glance of the AW future...)

Kidding.
Waiting for your feedback! -

I'm still standing firm in that there won't be any new laptops revealed at E3.
If there were, I'll eat my words. -
I agree, but even though logic tells me there won't be any new spaceships till Sandy - the imagination goes wild:
M18X, X58-based chipset, desktop i7-990X, 480M SLI/ 5870CF, 3xSSD (Intel G3 - 600GB each), USB 3.0, 18" IPS 30-bit antiglare RGBY LED/OLED 3D(120Hz) screen....
and a very empty bank account.
A man can dream. -
M18X, X58-based chipset, desktop i7-930, 480M SLI/ 5870CF, 3xHDD (Toshiba - 320GB each), USB 3.0, 18" antiglare RGB LED 3D(120Hz) screen....
and a very typical bank account.
A man can dream [with a budget]. -
m13x ... the Dell XPS 13 is a joke.
-
I have just gone through the ordering process of an M15x, but didn't finish it due to a problem with DELL website. Thank god, I really want a 13" laptop but liked the Alienware range. I really hope they bring out a M13x. This will be my first Windows, always had Mac!

Which would you recommend, M15x or XPS 16?

Although it hasn't arrived yet, I feel that it was a worthwhile move. The heat was kind of annoying on the XPS 1640. When the lid was open, it would somewhat block the exhaust vent and the front of the laptop would get very hot.
*EDIT*
I'll let you know more how I feel about my decision to switch after the M15X arrives. (29 Jun) -
Thanks Matey, I'm sure you will be pleased with it!
-
We meed a m16.9x. That m17x is a tad bit too large for me.
joking of courseLast edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
I used to think anything larger than a 15 inch laptop screen was too large. Then i realized wait a minute, anything larger than a 15 inch laptop screen is just awesome. Especially when you have a backpack as great the Orion you don't have to worry about weight.
Man I should work for Alienware sales!Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
Haha, 100%!
I love that Orion backpack and anything smaller than 17" is considered a netbook for me now -
Anything bigger then an 18in laptop would be overkill. Backpacks and cooling pads wouldn't even fit it.
-
I think that's why the mALX didn't do so well. That and it was a bit underpowered.
-
However, the XPS 13 was a horror. It used a dual GPU system that didn't work, it looked cool for the compromise of massive overheating. It was very overpriced for it's hardware, and it had a crappy battery time.
But times have changed with Optimus, and Turbo Boost technology. By disabling the intensive hardware or downclocking when not gaming, our machines haave gotten lots of more mobile power.
Not only that, but by removing the Optical Drive(DVD Drive) we have lots of more room for graphics cards and cooling.
A M13x could work with the current chassis that the M11X has. Just increasing the screen display but not the dimensions of the machine would be perfect... it would have the same footprint, use the same components, without being bigger besides a screen that has a edge to edge display. It would make m11x... the ultimate machine. m13x. -
OFFICIAL NEWS:
My extremely reliable sources tell me an Alienware M17x refresh is imminent!
NEW changes: Liquid Cooling, 480M SLI, Portable attachable fan for when the liquid evaporates, RGB OLED Screen, Holographic Display with 3D vision (glasses free), Touch Screen Keyboard (OLED of course), SSSD Drive (Super Solid Slate Drives). All this for the low low price of $4000!
This news is of course brought to you by my very trustworthy source! -
Who wouldn't trust a face like that one?
I would wait for an 18in screen but I can't see anything else revolutionary in the immediate future that I would wait for.
Immediate future = next 6 months.
Still highly curious what they plan on showing off at E3 though. -
You had me going right up until you said "My".
When we get technology like that, im passing laptops altogether and getting an omni-tool. -
