I agree Katalin. If I did not travel so much, I would have one of those to compliment the M18x. My neighbor--also a "mature gamer" like us-- ;)--has one (with current specs) and it is truly a spectacular machine in terms of performance and appearance. I think this case design annihilates anything that came before it.

Of course it's not old, it's still functional and super up-gradable ...we wanted to include it in this campaign because it's out of the market...and so beautiful :)

I remember finally getting a 100 GB hard drive. I thought I would never run out of space lol.
Would be like a 3 terabyte hard drive today.

I wonder if in another 10 years computers will be using over 10 terabyte drives normally...

    gonna download a car.

The automotive industry has already been messed up beyond belief, and the high-performance PC enthusiasts will be up next for the guillotine. You know our high-powered GPUs and Extreme Processors are emitting cancer-causing radiation and destroying the ozone layer, right? ;)

If the enviro-nazis have their way we will all be using power-sipping smart phones and cloud storage, with nothing but SD cards for local data.

We're already being killed, look at all this movement to lower performance ultrabooks, tablets and this junk about the cloud and cloud gaming.

Why do I have to let someone else's system do my work when I can have my own monster do it myself?

We will lucky to have SD card slots on most devices. It could turn to un-removable flash storage and transferring over a wi-fi connection. At least from what I'm starting to see.

The predators had their doors swing-open, problem with this is that if you don't pay attention to it. Sometimes you walk right into it and break the hinge.

I have a predator 2 but got it "barebones" on ebay a few years back. Had to buy a new CPU and graphics card.

If you meant the fact that they had MicroSD slots, I definitely do not mean that those were useless.

    I was referring to:
"It could turn to un-removable flash storage and transferring over a wi-fi connection. At least from what I'm starting to see."
This is the rather irritatingly pointless thing to me.

I'm an Android user myself with a 32GB MicroSD, so ... meh. I can't tolerate streaming content constantly. I always figured the point of having a mobile phone was not to be limited to places for my content.

The old "skull cap" design brings back some great memories of the old systems.

I like the sleek design of the newer systems better, but nostalgia is always cool.

What would be kind of sweet is to have some custom notebook sleeves for current models that have the skull cap appearance, available in the legacy m9700 and m3450 colors. If the pricing is decent, I'd love to have a cobalt blue or bright green sleeve that looks like that as an accessory for my M18x.

I just submitted that at Idea Storm. http://www.ideastorm.com/idea2ReadIdea?Id=087700000008kBLAAY&v=1346934578834

I love that color! Because it has been so long ago it now seems so odd to see an AMD CPU in a gaming laptop, and especially with an NVIDIA GPU. But, that was back in the day before AMD gobbled up ATI and AMD was giving Intel a run for the money on CPU performance at that point in time.

Ahhh that was my first Alienware. that M9700 was one hell of a decent rig. I got it right around the time Crysis 1 came out. It couldnt run it then either :p That thing will hold a place in my heart.

A fire hit my house about 2 years ago and this baby was inside of it (It was going on 3 years old) and the insurance company scrapped it. But since it was an alienware and a decent one at that, they gave me full credit to buy a brand new Alienware. Which is what Im typing on right now!

I loved that computer but Alienware has come a LONG way since then. Especially with the case. It may weigh 25 freaking pounds but its one hell of a solid piece. Which is WAY more than I could say about the M9700. I do miss that green though. It really caught people's attention.

All these older ones were actually built on Clevo platforms, weren't they? But with a custom lid.

I still wish we had a flexible, powerful fifteen inch that didn't weigh 4kg though...

Yes, that is very true. There are not that many ODMs out there. Many laptops brandishing different labels are made by the hand full of companies globally. Laptops are almost always built by an ODM for an OEM. With the exception of the generic variations of Clevo systems offered through boutique resellers under different labels, laptops are generally unique and built to an OEMs specificiations. So, chassis design, warranty and service, software bundles and unique hardware features become very important elements in one brand distinguishing itself from its competitors even though the core components may be identical. This is why I am a Dell/Alienware fan, as they do a superior job of distinguishing their brand in those ways.

Natalia, i'm afraid that needs to be fixed.

Pictured you have a area-51 m15x while the specs are the ones of the 'All Powerful M15x'. The former was available in both Skullcap and Ripley designs with Core2 CPUs, while the latter was only available with the Ripley design, core i5/i7 CPUs with two types of screens, WideHD (1980x900) and WideFHD (1980x1080).

Yeah, the bluray was like a 1200$ option :)

But, since I updated my system with a new motherboard, I can just use a slimline sata player. I have the dvd from my x51 in there right now. The old one was a IDE player.

The price was very high for the hangar, a little too high considering it was just a rebadged msi media live DIVA.
