at this point BGA and LGA don't have any advantages over one another because nvidia and laptop manufacturer decide to hammer a dildo up (y)our asses with pascal

As sad as that is...its quite true. Which is why I find it funny that ole!!! over there seems to think clevo was just as surprised as we were.

There's no way in hell Clevo didn't know what was coming. They knew full well and they knew exactly what they were doing. Which is why it's such ********. We may disagree on laptop choices but promising customers upgrades in the future and then breaking that is a load of crap.

msi say that they will buyback existing gt72 and gt80 to give owners a chance to upgrade to the pascal model

legally they can still buy your laptop for $1 and sell you gt72/73/83vr for msrp :p

eurocom say that they're working on clevo upgrade to pascal, but don't know details yet

    1. New form factor (slimmer, thinner)?

To be fair to Clevo, they never really promised future upgrades for their laptops. All they did was mentioning the usage of MXM GPUs as one of the main selling points for their laptops, they never outright promised that you're guarenteed an upgrade when new GPUs are out. MSI on the other hand.......

msi offers to buyback your laptop to fulfill this promise, how much they will buy it back for is another question...

Well that's only for the US for now.... still no statements on how it will work out for the rest of the world. And like you said, no indication of how much they willing to buy back those once expensive outdated Maxwell notebooks. I reckon it's not going to be a sweet deal, you'll end up earning more through eBay. The rest of the world as of now is still being shafted by MSI like hot knife through butter.

and this is what they advertise on their website

Someone outside of the US could potentially bring MSI to court based on this statement alone.

Yep, no doubt about it, I've tried to tell people this before, they're businesses and they're only in it to make money. They don't care about the "hardcore" crowd at all. I hope that all the Alienware haters will now redirect themselves to Clevo, since they were so quick to post here. :)

what we need is desktop class CPU with 6-8 core HEDT in their next line up. those would be awesome in alienware knowing they dont cheap out on cooling. the era of m18x r1 to r2 died, those were the good days can simply swap out chassis, mobo, cpu and gpus.

One GPU>SLI>good luck playing DOOM and other games that don't support SLI. Titan XP absolutely RAPES the GTX 1080.

    Enjoy...

Let me see a GTX 1080 do this:

    Your picture was Titan X 2016 SLI not a 1080 SLI vs Titan X 2016 ( Single )?

    For desktops
Titan X alone would dip to 57 fps in some games and a 6700K at max overclocks and 4000+mhz on a impact/mOCF board is still better than the 6950X at 4.5/3200

    4.8ghz 6700K can beat a 4.6ghz 5960X in many games

    https://siliconlottery.com/products/6700k49g
Can probably go to 5.0-5.1ghz along with higher cache since it's delidded after testing

Some people who had their 4.8ghz delidded were able to run 5.0 from them ( on desktops )

No. The photo I shared above was from the videos I shared bellow (which have a much more clear explanation of said photo).. The graphs in the photo show the new Titan XP's in SLI benchmarks; stating the Average, Maximum, and minimum FPS.. Again, all of it is explained much more clearly in the videos I shared--should you have the time to watch them.

EDIT: The photo was from this video:

couldnt agree more man, its really sad to see no successor. well now i'd be wanting skylake-E and not broadwell/haswell E as those are old tech, they also dont come with dmi 3.0 nor other features.

yep silicon lottery is awesome, if we can get some more OEM to use desktop CPU we have option to buy cpu directly from silicon lottery for a real high end desktop gaming pc. SSD performance wise is the same with desktop, GPU is very much on par, where as CPU we get junk BGA in mobile its kind of sad. how can anyone call 4.2ghz a decent overclock anymore? LOL

As someone else mentioned in this thread as if Ghz's are the only thing that counts. I have a 2500K running at 5ghz for 5 years now. It is nothing compared to my laptop non overclocked CPU.

4C/4T losing to a 4C/8T in some situations is normal when one has ~23% higher IPC and ~30% boost from HT

On another site someone reduced the timings on the 4ghz 16GB kit ram to 17-18-18-28-2T-300 ( 6'34" in superpi 32m and 4.8core/4.2cache ) from 17-19-19-41-2T-350 ( 6'53" ) or ~5% faster and much faster than the stock 19-21-21-41-2T timings

new hardware is great, but bga isnt about not able to get high clocks because its soldered to a motherboard and swapping it would be a pain in the ass, and a lot more costly. tbh out of all the hardware, mobo usually breaks first and if thats the case regardless how good a CPU is, would go with it, which sucks.

if i get a good processor, i'd like to keep using it even after swapping other parts, especially given on how processor nowadays don't have much room to improve due to software we use are poorly coded. as for 2500k, sandy bridge is around ~25% slower than skylake at the same frequency, not to mention skylake offers nvme pcie ssd along with DMI 3.0 and pcie 3.0, bumping up the sata 3gbps to 6gbps, lots of benefits.

if CPU was still jumping 10-20% each generation like back in the old days, i probably wouldnt have cared too much on the ghz.

Come with proof. If you cant offer a few screenshots better just keep silent and let the big boys talk.

Here a nice source video of the difference between the generations.

It is barely an improvement in most situation.
Only in very specific tasks it can be faster. Such as rendering a video in Adobe after effects. But not as widespread as you claim

    http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1543?vs=1544

Here is a nice tool to compare all benchmarks over all past CPU generations.

Like I've told many people before, you want desktop power, go get a desktop. No OEM is going to waste money on such a small minority of people.

Likewise, no self-respecting member of that minority is going to waste their money on trash from an OEM that does not provide even one option that can be viewed as an acceptable product. So, I guess that evens the score. It wasn't that long ago that there were a few good OEMs and Alienware was one of the few. It is extremely discouraging to have almost nothing available for purchase in a notebook that those of us in the minority find to be acceptable. In an sea filled with blasé turdbooks there are two or three acceptable options available from one OEM. It is both sad and appalling to find all of the focus on bling and not zing. The best way to deal with companies that focus on style over substance is vote no with your wallet, and convince as many others as possible to follow in your footsteps. Companies that to do not provide solutions that meet expectations deserve to suffer financial ruin and failure.

Indeed, and it's your prerogative to spend your money as you see fit. The OEM's have decided that they can't get enough profit from you and others like you, so they've stopped selling to your demographic. The desktop side of things will still be able to serve you well. While it's nice to think that they'll suffer financial ruin and failure, it's highly unlikely. Maybe this is the prime time for someone to step up and make a truly bespoke high powered laptop with desktop components that you guys want.

I agree with that. They would have a monopoly if it was a truly well made product that delivered extreme performance in bucketloads. I know of someone that is working on trying to develop exactly that. I hope he is successful. It will be the kind of product thin and light gamers will hate and monsterbook lovers like me will find to die for.

But, I can still hope for their failure and still contribute toward that goal in small ways that chip away at their success little by little. Companies are living in lean times with fierce competition even among the turdbooks. The market is saturated with them. So if I convince two people, those two convince two each, and each of those convince two... with due diligence and taking a stand on principle a grass roots effort can bring about change. I think it's worth trying. I'm not against the manufacture and sale of turdbooks. This has been going on for years and it did not matter because there were acceptable alternatives from the companies that mattered most. The paradigm I want to see broken is the absence of acceptable alternatives from companies that used to matter. It's sad that they don't any more. They could if they wanted to, but they wussed out and try to mask that with lies and hype that present their garbage as something more than what it truly is. I cannot see a way to honor that kind of behavior. They are unworthy to receive honor or respect.

Why does Dell have to do anything for you? Why does MSI have to do anything for you?

Oh wait they don't. If you didn't care you wouldn't be visiting every alienware post you could find on this planet and spamming the same old speech over and over again.

Companies exist to make their shareholders money, if they see that enthusiasts are costing them more money than they bring in they're going to dump them. They don't exist to serve your needs like some kindoff servant.

The only people who are to blame for the death of the enthusiast market are enthusiasts themselves. Nobody else.

It is sad, I agree 100% but clearly something had to change to cause every single major enthusiast brand to stop caring about enthusiasts. I mean at one point they loved you because you would bring in huge amounts of money to them, sure your market wasn't as big as the other markets but you guys each spent significantly more money than anyone else did on laptops / desktop / replacement parts.

So what changed? Did stuff become cheaper? Hardly. Did people start moving away from the enthusiast market to make it an even smaller subgroup than it already was? Probably.

Hit it on the nose. I really, truly, do hope that someone can come in and fill that need for the "hardcore", but I'm pretty sure it's going to come at a steep cost, and then we'll see how much support the community is willing to throw towards it.

Dell went cheap and all can see the results. Only 3 SSD slots + 2 ram slots and no better cooling than a smaller 15"... This in a 17 inch laptop ... Crazy.

This is where you're off base a little. I can understand why you might think that way if you don't get out and about very much, but that's not really an accurate statement. I don't want to burst your bubble, but you're definitely not a privileged character as an Alienware fan. You see, I do this everywhere... literally. It has nothing to do with Alienware per se. They are merely one among many and I have no use for any of them. It is a widespread cancer across the industry due to low quality standards and low expectations of the masses, and just good old fashioned consumer ignorance in some cases. I am not talking about people that want thin and light. I get that even though I don't care about that or want it for myself. To each his own. The problem is lack of acceptable options. You should get out more and you would have a clearer understanding this is not about trolling BGA fanboys... not even a little bit. It's about the plethora of gimped trash and an overwhelming lack of acceptable options.
Sadly, this is true. I work for such a company. They present a fa çade to give an impression of being customer centric, but inwardly they are wolves that serve the greed of the shareholder machine. Eventually, that will catch up with them. It almost always does. My goal is to help accelerate the process by getting smart people to wake up, stop accepting compromise and compromised products, and stop doing their best impression of what stupid looks like. There is no excuse, for example, for the MSI Titan notebooks to have a crappy BGA CPU in them... not excuse whatsoever. They sell huge beautiful machines for huge sums of money and stupid people pretend it is OK for them to be castrated. You can and should expect a thin and light machine to be castrated as a matter of necessity. It is not engineered to handle anything awesome, and that's OK for anyone looking to comprise and settle for something less than awesome. That just goes with the territory. However, doing the same stupid stuff to big machines is a sign of mental illness in the OEM ranks. They're charging a butt load of money for crippled filth that is fully capable of accommodating an awesome CPU, and they would not lose a dime in doing the right thing. In fact, I think they would make even more money without any reason for raising the price because more people (the "not stupid" people) would buy the better product.

Don't have to look far. I'm ready to bale out already. As much as I love extreme performance notebooks, I'm not paying paying $1200 for a 1080 mobile GPU when I can get a full 1080 desktop GPU for $700. That's stupid whether you're an enthusiast or not. The more enthusiasts use the brains that God blessed them with by demonstrating ordinary common sense, the more discouraging the problem will likely become. And because the people building junk are not intelligent, it is almost certain they will blame enthusiast for the lack of demand without any understanding of the fact that because true enthusiasts are unwilling to compromise and lower their standards by purchasing trash is the precise reason for the lack of demand.

Yeah, yet another OEM disappeared and created an even larger gap for power enthusiasts. Dellienware was the last one out.
We who have had AW machines before... So that Dell turned completely around and destroyed their only gaming brand on 1 two three... Never seen a brand turning around so fast  Not just put in BGA i7, but also BGA GPU. As well put in crippled bios Aka Hybrid bios(newer used that before in any AW) + a wimpy 180w psu, No raid(first Echo) only 3 SSD and two ram slot. Yes they turned 100% round. Like you said... <It is a widespread cancer across the industry due to low quality standards>

'we're happy with our purchases, leave us alone!' ... blah blah blah. Have you spent 4years combing these forums? Club & Arena? Have you heard the never-ending horror stories of being an owner? I have. And I went to Arena Tech Support on Sunday, I went through each & every single post there from the past month & u know what? 8pages, 20 posts per page, & there were only 23 moderator posts, less than one per day - 2 of the 23 constituted 'u can't upgrade your BGA' - so of the 21 others, about 12 were inconsequential ('friendly pop-ins'), so about 9 interventions that 'mattered'. In that 30day period which saw 150+ tech support posts I saw 9 messages that qualified as actual support, & two of them were 'send me a pm w/your service tag & I'll look into it', so no public resolution. That leaves 7 actual attempts to help people, in a month. Of those 7, 4 were basic garden-variety help which leaves 3 'expert level' attempts to help people, & I use that term expert loosely

A good amount of posts were intercepted by a non-forum moderator, a non-employee, just a fangirl called AlienAddict, who would chime in to say: 'I'll alert a rep ...' ... but the rep never came, & there were a dozen of those lingering the past month. P ower Adapter Problem 17 R3. AlienPorras has abandoned ship here, taken over by AlienKCastro (Joined: Aug 17, 2016 Messages: 7). 7 messages in 2weeks. I heard someone in this thread say that the Reps here left due to whatever reason, but, the truth is, they don't show up to Arena either which is friendly territory to work on. My 'Support Help' count can be duplicated by anyone here, simply go to Arena & see for yourself; if you wanna do one better, check all posts from the past 2months, it doesn't get any prettier, these people are AWOL

The past 2 days? ONE MOD INPUT, & that was just to say 'gee, never heard of that one before'. They don't care about you there or your problems there & your cry for help has a good probability it will remain unanswered there. On Arena.com itself. So all this talk about how happy everyone is as an owner, I call B.S.

Arena & AlienClub are swamped with frustrated owners experiencing the full spectrum of issues. That may be true of all forums but the Aliens are under the microscope. Papusan has more posts on Arena offering help then the tech-mods do, go check. And you know what? **** the new lineups if they won't support the old ones ... know what else? I have a right to express my contempt for Dell & Dellware here whether it makes you comfortable or not, whether it's toxic or not & I'm a join Fox & all the others here like him, because 'I can still hope for their failure & still contribute toward that goal in small ways that chip away at their success little by little'

@Cass-Olé Time have changed now http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...scussion-thread.794965/page-142#post-10330717

And Yeah. I have helped many Aw owners who have BGA machines. It does not matter what laptop you have, if they need help. I help everyone if I can.

Naysayers - If Mxm based systems were proving to be a success then the focus would still be on them.

    It's not.

It seems if you want to be able to upgrade the practical option is a desktop both in terms of upgrade availability as well as price.

The cost for Mxm components blew completely out of proportion a long time ago and it's no surprise why the market for this is dying.

You can criticize the "uneducated masses" for this new direction to you're blue in the face but ultimately without mainstream gamers demanding Alienware or any gaming brands systems you wouldn't have the systems you've enjoyed now or in the past. The masses fund a company not you.

I'm not a gamer, I'm a performance enthusiast - That's got to be one of the most @rse backwards boasts plaguing this site.
You're an enthusiast about what exactly?
A gaming system that within several months of ownership is already classed as dated?
Chasing benchmark numbers that are always climbing higher and higher due to new tech that always pushes your number down into the pool of irrelevancy?

That's an enthusiast in both the arts of wastefulness and stupidity if you ask me....

Read carefully - It DOES NOT MATTER how much you complain or moan or try to sway others.
The demand for your ideal systems is simply not enough. Fact.
Rather than waste your effort away just pick another brand or go with desktops.

    Benchmarking is like Drag Racing.
People who drive Eco's or Prius don't need to understand it. My wife doesn't know why I turn boost up on my turbo either. All good.

Me, I'm greedy. 60fps isn't enough. I want triple digits. Since most anaemic CPU's won't get modern titles there I have to go with something that can.

I enjoy the odd bench or three and I've learnt an awful lot from other performance enthusiasts here.

There's alot to gain from having a well oiled and tuned machine. Those high numbers on benchmarks always translate to better performance in games. Who would have thought right?

Stop comparing laptops to cars. This is such a stupid match up.

Ideally yes, you want as many frames as possible and certainly 60Fps + (Although in many games I see little change from 45 upwards). However there is always the point of diminishing returns and those massive DTR's that cost thousands are a prime example of this.

All of my games currently run at 60Pfs or higher at 1080p, which makes for a superb gaming experience and one that I obtained for an incredible price. I wanted a superb system that was somewhat more portable than my previous Alienware.
Regardless of whether or not you think these Alienware systems are worthwhile (Which they are) I'm having a great experience on this 15 inch laptop, which combined with the smaller power adapter makes it much easier to transport around on a daily basis. I know there are 4k gaming systems out there and whilst appealing, the massive cost offset this.
No matter how you argue you cannot change this. These systems are excellent and game tremendously well which is exactly what the majority buy Alienware for. Gamers who also want convenience of transportation and the ease of upgrades through the AGA have scored big time with the latest release.

I literally own all of their latest released laptops with max specs (which I even improved by installing better hardware & re-pasted etc.) You say you get 60FPS on all of your games in 1080p... Tell me, what settings are you using? Do you mean that you get a peak of 60FPS.?. Because I assure you that if you are playing any half decent title released within the last 3+ years on Ultra (maxed graphics) there is no way in hell you are getting 60FPS.. You have to downgrade to High settings or lower.. I am in no way satisfied with my gaming experience with any of these turds--they are mostly good for school work, and editing photos & videos on the go.. I don't consider a gaming laptop a solid performer if it is unable to hit a minimum of 60FPS @ 1080p on Ultra settings in 95% of the games out there. Despite owning Alienware turds I do not support anything they released in the last 4 years, because it gets worse and worse. The only benefit I have seen is a big increase in battery life but performance for gaming... You must be truly delusional or have very low expectations for your gaming experience if you think that they have delivered in that category. The only thing that saves them there is the AGA.. Without the AGA any notebook is at best a 6.5/10 gaming experience. You need a reality check.

It is not a waste of time to create bad publicity and turn potential customers away from filth peddlers. Sadly, Alienware is one of many. If we each do our part to contribute to their harm the potential for the world to be a better place because of it will be enhanced. Even if we cannot turn the tide completely, every single loss of a sale is one more chink in their armor. I can tell from living in the thick of it, when huge companies are consumed by greed they sweat the onesy-twosy stuff to an extreme point. They have no ethos as a guiding principle and no underpinning... they exist as a god unto themselves and serve no purpose except to make money for shareholders. Customers are a number with no name. It takes a long time to sink a ship with bullet holes, but eventually it will sink. The people that think like me understand that and our focus is on adding more bullet holes... as many as possible. They do not need to exist, so there is no reason for us to be polite toward companies like this. They deserve to die and I don't mind doing my small part in helping with the process. Word of mouth is important, and even the monsters understand this. Consumer that do not understand the importance of word of mouth are not very bright people. The damage occurs slowly, but it is usually irreversible.
