I played COD:WAW for about 3 hours last night. Zero issues, which is great because it would BSOD after an hour or less on Sunday after I installed 207 Asus Bios. The 207 T10 Bios seems to be have fixed it, but the underlined issue is still there. Not enough power to components. Also, I am not under any circumstances saying that this BIOS has solved the BSOD issue. It will take a week or so of daily use in games from all users to see if anyone is still suffering from the problems. But it looks like (fingers crossed) that it may be it.
Can anyone do any benchmarks to see how the power is doing with this bios?
-
how do i install the zip file of the new bios =[
edit: nvm, winflash is what i did and it worked. -
Fortunate, happy, not angry owner of a G51j-A1. I was hoping to get an awesome "hot" great performance laptop. and that's what I got
lol -
i would except for the fact that asus sold a laptop known to have BSOD and was keeping quiet while all of us were like ? Also it still has a major power distribution issue that is still prevalent. Until that is fixed(most likely never) I will change it. Now if it cant be fixed and asus admits it then i will change it to a semi happy owner ^^ So we know a 150w psu does not fix the power distribution issue and most likely the BSOD are fixed. So what else can the problem be and what else can we be testing?

I guess we should open a new thread about G51J throttling problem, as well as updating the solution to the BSOD in the wikia
-
Ummm... anyone else have give a shot to Throttlestop?
-
for the testing, http://g51jbsod.wikia.com/wiki/CPU_throttling
and a new thread, http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=452784
edit: 6 hours of CoD4 in a row and no problem (win7). eyes r burning. -
Well I updated to the new BIOS using the winflash utility and it only took about 30 seconds max. I suppose I'll go ahead and get Borderlands this weekend, as I've been wanting to check it out but too afraid to do so because I would just get super pissed if I kept on getting a BSOD while trying to play it.
Right now I'm just happy that nothing went wrong with flashing my BIOS...like I said earlier I'm out of town for work right now and the worst thing that could happen to me pretty much is not being able to use this laptop. lol -
Will I guess the BSOD seems to have finally been fixed by ASUS. Although technically it was ASUS's fault for releasing a laptop with a defect, I do however feel that after all the bashing thrown at them (some by myself) they still deserve some applause for sticking to their motto of reliability and service by fixing the issue rather than burying it amongst all their latest ROG laptops. There is still the issue of CPU throttling, but at the moment that seems to be something related to most Intel Core i7 Mobile CPU’s. None-the-less I’d like to see it fixed by either Intel or ASUS.

I had just got the BSOD while playing Borderlands tonight, with the new BIOS 207. 2 hours in.

Thank you for answers. -

Windows (and OS X) use 3D acceleration for the Windows desktop now too, and in fact Flash video is even accelerated on Nvidia cards, which is awesome, and would explain higher clock speeds, etc.
-
I alt-tabbed to this firefox window (10 tabs open) just now and clocks spiked up to max - I had rivatuner hardware monitoring on in the background. Downsteps over the next 30 seconds went back to lowest, but every time I alttab up they go again.

You're in the wrong thread, but try disabling all of your add-ons for FF.

Any idea on when this BIOS will be available from ASUS? Is it worth waiting for the official version?
-
no get the unofficial one from gentech then when the actual one comes out update it again. only takes like 3 mins to update.
-
Great news. Seemes it fixed the problem for everyone who tested it. I'd say this case is solved! =)
As a quick note to people using winflash.. I've only flashed bios once, and that was a couple of days ago. I just entered setup in boot-up (bios), and used the flashing utility there. Theres not much work to it. Select flash, browse to your new bios file, and let it do the job. Nice and smooth =)
But then again I guess winflash works good too. Never tried. -

I think it is safe to say it has been fixed. the BSOD was an issue that happened within certain ammounts of time, everytime you played a game with the issue.
So far no game has BSOD again since the update.
The current "problem" is the performance throttling though I don't think it is that much of an issue right now. At least nothing I have noticed to be a problem. -
-
No BSOD in COD:MW2 multiplayer after installing unofficial BIOS update.
Issue seems to be resolved. -
Not a huge deal but the keyboard backlights will not shut off with the GenTech BIOS. No BSODs to report.
-
For me they do :\ -

same here....

Installed the GenTech BIOS, problem solved...no issues with CoD 4.
Is there any word on an official ASUS BIOS? -
gentech will receive all my future orders, without a doubt

Hmm... I'd been playing Borderlands (1 1/2 playthroughs) since I got this thing 2 wks ago (mostly, but also a bit of Racedriver, Stalker CS and Empire TW once) on totally stock drivers apart from what was installed by installers (like 3dmark06)
So the other day I update to FW 195.62, installed Nvidia System Tools 6.05, did a whole lot of 3dmark06 runs at various settings. Then 207 beta BIOS (I'm doing equivalent 3dm06 runs to compare)
Yesterday, in Borderlands, I started turning settings down (med, most fps hitters like dynamic shadows off) coz a GPU @ 93C made me worry, and underclocked a bit (480c/1200s) using a profile (manually edited osbootpf.nsu because the GUI is screwed)
After StalkerCS ran fine for 2+ hours - sure as hell, 3 0x124 BSODs within 20 minutes - the first I've had so far - one when joining a LAN game, one 10 minutes into playing, one before it even got to the main menu.
So what fixed it? Deleting ALL Nvidia System Tools profiles. Setting GPU everything back to stock. Setting all Borderlands settings back to high.
No crash for 6+ hours straight.
BTW got 11767 as the best 3dm06 at GPU max of 590c/1500s/1050m, the mem might be able to go a bit higher though. -

Um, now that I look again, I had both G60J207.zip and G60JAS207.zip next to each other in the same downloads folder... I may have done something noobish but pretty sure I saw .T10 as the BIOS file's extension.
The date in the BIOS field in CPUz is 12/25/09, is that the 207 or the 207.T10 (which I referred to as '207 beta BIOS')?
Either way I think it was shoddy Nvidia work causing the problem, have seen plenty of people claiming System Tools 6.05 is broken and I understand why.
One thing I didn't mention is that I have prerender forced to 2 and vsync forced on in nvidia control panel (specifically not for 3dm06 though)
edit: to clarify, the BSODs were in borderlands, dunno if that was 100% clear, and maybe also what caused the problem was me saying in whirlpool I'd not had any yet >:\ -

Ur on the official 207 BIOS then (going by date... the beta is from January)
The one from GenTech is .T10.
Give the one from GenTech a shot, nobody has BSOD'ed on it so far. -

the new bios doesn't freeze. everyone have bsod while gaming. that is the whole point of the new bios. it should fix the issue. no one here had issue since flashing the new bios.

Great to see ASUS came up with a proper fix
-
I'm just restoring my system back to Win7 from XP with Kenny's BIOS, 207.T10. I've already flashed it, just restoring now. Same as before, I'll leave CoD 4 MP (legit store purchase, not on Steam) and Dawn of War 2 (on steam) running while I'm at work, I figure a 9hr test should be conclusive.
I'll report back if there are any issues. -
Good luck, I am sure you will be fine, as I did over 10hrs of Borderlands (which usually BSODs withing 30 mins) and everything went smoothly.
I say the BSOD is fixed. -

Nice! Hope this is it. Thanks Asus and GentechPC!
I have to say getting a fix like this honestly does restore and increase my faith in Asus, and increase my likelihood of buying from Gentech -
Ufffff, at last, a plausible solution.
Big Thank You to GentechPC
