    Acronis True Image Home 2010.

I use it 3-4 times a day in my shop, and will never look back. The Plus Pack is good for moving a Windows install to another computer with completely different hardware, too. ;)

That's a good question... I guess I'll know soon enough. ;) Worst case is that I'll just use the 160GB SSD until I can figure out some way to get the other drive back in there.

Just ordered my X1 from Newegg with 2 day shipping for $1461. I figured I already have a 17" Targus case, G9 and Dback mice, and I can add an SSD or BlueRay drive later for fun. Worked for me personally and saved a little coin. Thanks to everyone who spotted this pop up. NotebookReview FTW.

Delayed? Again? Ugh... Ive been waiting for a gaming rig for more than 8 months now. Thats alot of time without a good pc for a gaming junkie like me. But fcuk it, ill stick to my guns. I ordered with Xotic, and i honor my agreement with them. Justin had to be a bearer of bad news, but he didnt sugar coat it. Much respect for that. Still waiting...

Kinda blows that me who, preordered in first dates of January still wont get it by March, while people who only heard about it last week has it in their hands already... But hey, who said life is fair.

How do you check newegg stock availability??

Ebay listing of canadian seller for new,box sealed ready to ship A1, which "THIS ITEM WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE UNTIL END OF MARCH". Hmm, dunno what to make of this.
    http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Asus-Lptop-G73JH-A1-Wrrnty-2Y-Globl-1Y-Accidtl_W0QQitemZ220553252177QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLaptops_Nov05?hash=item3359ff8d51

Lolz processor - Intel Atom!!

Edit: greytech does indeed list March18th as next shipment.. http://www.ecsrv.com/store.aspx?No=220146

A couple of Questions about the X1 :
    1. To add an additional HDD/SSD in the empty bay i would need the HDD caddy right? where do i get that?
    2. Is there any way to buy additional ASUS GLOBAL warranty for the X1? Is the default 1yr warrant Global?
    3. I alrady asked this above, but how do you check newegg stock status?
    Thanks(for future replies :) )

I'm guessing 99.9% it has the caddy, not putting one in would require more modding on their assembly line/chasis design and negate the cost of not putting the 2nd HD in. It would be like if for example if the X-1 came with 6 gig of ram vs 8. Obviously there's an empty slot, they aren't going to put a custom/modified board just to use 6 gigs vs 8. They'd have to stop their assembly line to switch to a totally different mother board (Which they would have spend even more money developing just to have 3 slots for ram vs 4) So basically I'm pretty sure they just clicked a button or 2 and now it's only installing 1 HD on the line VS 2.

Personally I haven't had any heat issues. In fact the fans aren't on full all the time. During my lunch break I played FEAR 2 for an hour, with all settings at Maximum. The fan only turned on full about once every 30 seconds to few minutes. Even the wouldn't stay on for long. Rest of the time you can't hear the fan.

Last year I spent $15k @ Newegg from July to December, so we're kinda tight like that. :D

I feel like I'm going to pick up drugs tomorrow morning. Er, I kinda am.

I would order a X1 from newegg but with CA tax and all might as well get the A2 with extra year warranty and items somewhere else out of state for the same price without tax. Boo CA tax.

The X1 isnt that bad.. added following stuff to cart, pretty decent overall price
    [IMG]

But the lack of decent warranty is a deal breaker...
sorry to repeat my question again but is there any way of adding more ASUS GLOBAL warranty to the g73jh-x1??
any warranty packs(by ASUS) i found were to extend the 2yr to 3yr only

To be 100% honest, I would have bought the X-1 from a reseller given the option. Don't need/want the backpack or mouse so for me they're not worth really anything. And I wanted to put in a SSD anyways so now I wont have another HD not in use lying around ( I have enough externals). so basically to compare:

A1 is roughly $1650+ shipping with a BD player

X-1 is $1429 with a DvD player and 1 HD. So you add a SSD with the money you would have saved and its around $1700+ shipping maybe less if you got it on ebay or something.

So basically you have to weigh what you get. Personally I"ll take a DvD and high end SSD over a BD ANY DAY. Also depending on how bad you want a backpack/mouse....pretty much the consensus with the included mpuse is they are pretty bad compared to whats available.

As far as a 2yr warranty vs a 1yr, ya the 2 year is really nice but in reality if something is messed up on your laptop I'm pretty sure you'd know about it within that year or it's going to live out its relative life expectancy.....and like I said if you plan on upgrading the CPU your warranty is null anyways basically.

So really it just comes down to how you weigh the 2 packages, if you never plan on upgrading it and REALLY need a backpack, a mediocre gaming mouse, and actually are going to watch BR movies on it (Personally I never will prolly) then the A-1 is totally for that person.

If you plan on upgrading you G73 then the X-1 is prolly right up your ally.

    . no crysis enthusiast benchmarks>?

isn't that the reason for a hd5870 vs 260m gtx??

do you guys think upgrading from a 260m gtx to a hd5870 is worth it? will i see 1 fps gain or 10 fps gain?

this is a pretty important questiin even if its small.

Good things come to those who wait. I was actually eyeballing the w90vp back when they came out too - but after the problems it had I sprung for a LED backlit tv instead at the time. Now I'm serious about getting a DTR/gaming notebook again. Several years ago I had an hp dv9335 (nvidia 7600go) with stock 1 yr warranty that burned up at 1.5 yrs and wasn't on the handful of p/n numbers hp decided to extend the warranty on for the 8000's and 9000's... Considering that and the fragility and flakiness of notebooks (and tv's for that matter) - I'd wait a few months for an extra yr warranty easily. In fact I want 3yrs, and I'm very glad at the reasonable price for 3 yrs asus and the resellers have. The msi also has 3yr in the base config or I wouldn't even have it in the running vs the G73JH. I haven't ordered either yet.. once I see some solid feedback/reviews from GX740 owner's I'll order and get in line for one or the other.

As has been said, Egg's pixel policy also blows. Otherwise I buy plenty of other hardware from there.

Unfortunately, we can also confirm the delay. Trust me, no reseller wants to be the bearer of bad news on a delay, so if Justin had been the least bit unsure, he wouldn't have posted it to begin with.

If a reseller tells you it's unconfirmed, that just means s/he hasn't read the news from ASUS yet.

Makes sense there's some kind of Blu Ray shortage :(

Personally I wouldn't. Of course I'm not 100% sold on getting a 5870 over a 260 anyway, but besides that for me the performance difference isn't remotely big enough to justify a new system. Though obviously that's not the same for everyone, but personally I want a lot bigger leap than that.

Heck, a new GPU from my current system would be 3x+ faster, but the real reason I'm thinking of getting a new system is I want to use my old laptop for a specific use in the kitchen. (I thought about a 'netbook', but realized it would make more sense to spend that towards a new laptop instead, and use my existing laptop, which is 90x better, and also better for having a larger screen and keyboard).

Videos I've seen of the 260 are 1280 720 resolutions. The G73 plays at 1920 1080 all gamer settings 4AA smoothly.

I tried Enthusiast, it's a no go. Most of the time it's ok. But in Crysis Warhead, when you have to battle the alien barrage while waiting for the mofo to blow up the tunnel entrance with C4, there would be stops for video to catch up. Smooth, hesitate, smooth hesitate. But a mix of Gamer/Enthusiast is fine. I played it fine with texture setting at enthusiast.

To each their own. But you are comparing a midrange card from previous generation to so far the best single GPU for mobile use... You are definitely downplaying the performance differences.

I'm confused. The first post on the thread lists the A1 and A2 as 16"x11.6"x1.8". Most places list the dimensions of the A1 and A2 at 18.4" x 12.4" x 1.8". Newegg lists the X1 as 16.60" x 12.80" x 0.80" - 2.30". I'd guess Newegg is wrong about the length and width but what are the real numbers?

Whoa...16" is really different from 18". I was already pushing it in terms of desk space if this is 16" like I thought. 18...would have me have to reconsider it just because of size, unfortunately. (I hate saying that as I'm not one of these wimps who has to have a 7" notebook because of how "heavy" it is)...but my 15" n80nv is already taking up the majority of my available desk space.

Yep. I am amazed at what we are getting for $1,400. It is probably the best laptop deal in existence right now, period.

The Toshiba Qosimos - the new ones with the GTS360 NVIDIA cannot compare in any way, and they are much more expensive - like $1,900.

At this point I don't know why anyone would wait for a A-2.

I can understand waiting for the A-1 if you are obsessed with Blu-ray or do not have the technical ability to install your own BD replacement.

You know those laptop drives just unscrew and unplug just like desktop ones usually? 90% of laptop optical drives can be upgraded without too much fuss unless you have a very strange proprietary design - which this one is not. I have been reading the technical PDF and it looks like a standard size plug and play ASUS laptop drive meaning I will have a blu-ray one in there working this weekend.

Use the $200 to turn it into an A-1, or whatever else you want.

Also my order has shipped, with tracking to arrive by 10:30AM. :D

    The dimensions from the PDF = 16.60" x 12.80" x 0.80" - 2.30"

Screen size is 17.3" LED backlit - very thin. If you have seen the new LED TVs you will understand.

The base is what is big - the screen that flips up is large but thinner than other laptops and should benefit greatly picture quality wise over standard LCDs due to the enhanced contrast provided by LED technology.

I have been reading these threads for a few days now and i finally decided to order mine I will be getting the A1 since i have no BrDisk on my current rig and i want x2 HDDs. I was wondering out of all the resellers options in the customize besides the WIFI upgrade for $30 is there anything else worthwhile upgrading in either of the 3 basic reseller sites?

I'd consider that, but I haven't actually SEEN a laptop Blu Ray drive in a year. Someone mentioned ebay, but I don't buy from ebay. Plus if this is like my current laptop, the drive has a custom panel...thingee over it, so it wouldn't look the same even if it fits :-/

Cool! Thanks for the info-that all sounds awesome! Need to measure my desk :-D

Ugh. Sometimes I hate living in Canada. (not often though :)) newegg.ca doesn't have the G73 at all. And as far as I can tell, there's no way to get it shipped to Canada from newegg.com. Oh well! I'll just stick with my Xotic order...I should get around to canceling and changing things on that.

Don't know if anyone else has heard it yet, but I just got off the phone with Donald at powernotebooks.com and he said that HE just got off the phone with the ASUS rep. not 15 minutes ago and was told that the 17 Feb shipment was moved back to 4 March....that sucks!
