Oh, I thought you went with NE. My mistake. But the question still stands. Anyone getting the X1 soon please confirm the 2nd HD caddy present or not.
-
I am regretting that you will probably still get it before me.
+1. Spread the love (misery?)
I think both Quad and Vicious commented on the keyboard being high quality.
I seriously cannot WAIT for Vicious' review. Hoping Mandrake gets his soon too. -
Put the word out. Let's see if we can cause newegg to go out of stock from this forum alone, HAHA.
-
I may pull the trigger on number 88 tonight, lol.
Still thinking on it - hard call, but the G73 is a wonderful machine according to some very knowledgable folks, so I am taking that very seriously. Just want a top-notch machine soon, with DX11, that's gonna hold out for a year or two. Wanna run the new Blizzard games, and stuff like Dragon Age, Crysis, etc at max or just under max settings on a regular basis. Being as the AW machines are in the state they're in, I am not sure if I'll be willing to wait for the 5870's to debut in the M17x. -
Umm, I work in the airline industry and we cancelled every single flight into the NE of the US for all of tomorrow and the first half of Thursday...

I am eager to hear Mandrake's comparisons between this and AW models he is familiar with.
As for Vic, I will definitely be sitting down in a quiet room where I can devour every word.
for those wanting to see user pics of the G73, and read user comments, read this link, and then give +rep to m0.

Nice pics there. I tend to dig the low key design of the machine after seeing some of the overkill motifs floating around out there. Reminds me of some of the military hardware we see.
-
I'm not going to believe you.
-
Again....
Holy bajeebus....
I try to pop in for updated info to find 50+ pages of !
What are the best 3dmark06 and vantage scores to date? -
I thought there was a score of P8,000 something floating around.
-
I don't think even the hardest of hardcore AW guys would blame you for pulling the trigger. Even sleey0 had to make a move and that's saying a lot. It's a tough call, but I would wait to hear from Joker on the AW situation if you really had your heart set on the 17xr2. On the other hand, all account of the G73 have been positive so far. You can't go wrong, whichever way you decide to go.
Misery loves company?

Just ordered from new egg after canceling from xoitic. Realized I don't really need a SSD or a RAM upgrade, save myself $500 and get this baby even quicker
-
I totally agree with you, evensen007
and despite all this Newegg madness will stay with Gentech order

You can backup your blurays with the anydvd program, but it has a considerable upfront cost of the anydvd program and a bluray rom drive, plus extraction and conversion can be a pain. Mostly it is just time consuming, but once you get past the ground work and have some movies converted using an htpc or a notebook its much more convenient than carrying discs around and shuffling. Personally I'm using this notebook more for gaming anyway, but in my case I do have an OTA (over the air) antenna at home that I use to record HD tv shows off the 3 major networks + pbsHD using windows media center. Though a bit large from little compression, those files similarly are transferrable/streamable and don't require any discs - so I plan on watching some of my "PVR'd" (~ dvr'd) material on the notebook. Additionally some blurays have started to include a HD "digital copy" for pc's and/or ps3's - like my bluray of "District 9". And finally, even sites like youtube are streaming HD material now, as well as pay for content streaming places like Netflicks. Places like Steam and GoG, and even Amazon have direct download systems for purchasing games online now as well, not to mention PsN. Optical storage is on the way out in the end I think. Not quite yet but its just a matter of time.

Btw on the topic of BR movies, amazon just had a big sale on them that might still be on .. lots of decent movies for like $8 bux each. AnyDVD HD is like $150 bux (lifetime) , and a bluray rom drive is around $90 - $170 depending on model and internal or external (less if on sale). Might be a worthwhile investment in the long run. -
Except for the waiting time
If US guys think it's hard waiting for the A1s, imagine what is it like for Aussies who ordered from US resellers.... probably add another 2 weeks on top of the ETA + extra 10% GST + shipping fee+ custom fee ...eek -
Pulled the plus with Newegg this afternoon...and its shipped already.
Will be here tomorrow...then I can cancel order for A1 from other vendor.
The wait is finally over....
-
so, I was thinking of modding this into a jetpack that could unfold into a jetseat type deal. i just ordered all the parts off of newegg. unfortunately its portable jet replacement, so you only get about an hour of flight before you have to recharge. i don't want to hear how much better an actual jet is, this is a PORTABLE JET REPLACEMENT, of course an actual jet is going to be faster. some people just need something they can take around to school or work.

This thread and topic has me so rediculously addicted right now! Besween this thread, the G73 Newegg thread, and the Owner's thread, I can't stop ALT+TAB F5 through them continuously. What's even more rediculous, is I have the G73 sitting right here, turned on, while I am typing on the wife's laptop!
Now I have to go watch me 2 Tuesday shows (Lost and Paranormal State). I just know I'll have another 30 pages to read. Sheesh -
Just make sure you dont' run out of fuel mid air
-
I went with the Gen2 Intel, since those seem to be the ones that the most people recommend... They come in 80 and 160GB varieties. Here's the list of them on NewEgg... I went with OEM over retail.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...er=BESTMATCH&Description=intel+ssd+g2&x=0&y=0 -
Do the newegg ones come with the backpack and mouse? Did not see that listed...
Regardless my order stays with xotic, and I would encourage all others to stay with their respective resellers considering their dedication to this forum and all the whiny little girl sheet they have put up from us over the past 1.5 months.
Suck it up, the end is near!
Justin, Ken & Donald FTW! -
I tend to agree, but some of us aren't simply upgrading and actually are in need of a laptop. I only cancelled my order because I don't have a working laptop at the time and needed one. So waiting weeks was out of the question for me.
-
Anyone do an unpacking video of this yet? Please, just a tiny sample to tide us few over as we wait for delivery.
-
I'm coming to you from and iPod touch, my only computer at the moment...there's an app for that.
I preordered the a1 from xotic on 12.31.09.
I was 4th in line at the time of order. -
I was thinking of getting X1 and buying an external blu ray player... But I googled it and they were selling for $1000?!?! Is that really how much a blu ray player is supposed to cost?
Also, aside from 1080p movies, is there any other benefit of getting a blu ray player (read only)? What if they start making games on blu ray discs? -
No...newegg had an asus last week for 70 shipped.
-
Oh my gosh guys!! I went to school today, came back and 40+ pages on the forum..
tonight readinggg!! eheh..
-
EFFING LOL! EPIC WIN!
And yes, I know it annoys you that I quoted the image too. It is so damned epic, that it deserves to be reposted! -
Outside of movies there's no reason to own one currently. I personally have about 250+ blu-rays, so yeah... it's important to me.
Currently the discs are way too expensive for any kind of storage media, and only the PS3 is using them for game software. Don't expect that transition to happen anytime soon. Just like you can still find CD-Rom games, it'll take years. Unless you're interested in 1080p movies or have a decent collection and like to bring a few when you travel (which I do) I would just hold off. -
Odered today..shipped today...have tomorrow..
Cancel other vendor order after checking it out....sweet
-
I'm at work following this thread on my Nokia N900 (have it next to my work PC keyboard) so people in the office don't realize I'm not working most of the time
-
No, they just think you're on your phone all the time...
-
For those getting the X1, It will be interesting to see if they come with the 1333 ram or the advertised 1066. Please let us know when you find out.
-
aaron I posted the complete opposite opinion regarding future of optical media, you might have missed it in the smoke from the rocket...
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=5861387&postcount=766 -
Yeah, I'm really interested to see what it comes with as well. That will be one of the first things I check out when it arrives. I'm hoping since some of the A2's shipped with it, that these will too, since they seem to have been released to retailers at the same time.
-
It's not a phone, it's a pocket computer that can make calls ans send sms
-
I'll spend 3 hours on your lap tonight if I get to use your G73...
-
uh, it's not that kind of forum.
-
I just threw up in my mouth a little...
-
I must be in a wrong thread. bbl
-
...and let's not forget that Donald at PNB is taking the same supportive position for his pre-orders. Goodonya evensen for sticking with us.
-
Absolutely. All the guys over at PowerNoteBooks were included in that statement.
You know you'd watch! -
This the e-mail I recieved from Grey-tech about my A1 order today.
"Dear Customer:
We received an email this morning stating that the Asus shipment has been delayed due plant closures for the Chinese new year. Asus was unable to get the shipment out before the plant shut down.
No distributor or reseller will get product until around the second week for March. The actual shipment from the Asus plant in Asia is scheduled for the 5th of March.
GreyTech has talked directly with the Asus controller who has verified this information.
Customers that wish to cancel their order can do so and a complete refund will be issued to their credit card (if charged). This item has been oversold. By cancelling your order you will lose your place in the lineup not be able to get the product until at least April when the second shipment is expected. There is no other product like the G73JH-A1 on the market and Asus feels confident clients will keep their orders in placed.
Asus wishes to extend their apologies for this unavoidable delay.
To cancel your order, simply REPLY to this email you wish to cancel.
Customer Service
GreyTech Computer Inc."
If I was in the USA and not in Canada I would of cancelled my order and just ordered through newegg.com But since that isn't an option and no retailers in canada have the x1 or any a2's, im left with no other choice then to wait. Just makes me angry..... -
Just got my tracking number, drake.
Might want to check
-
Yeah, I just got tracking numbers as well.
-
Quagmire LXIX Have Laptop, Will Travel!
wow, so now we have:
1) delayed at customs
2) speculated blu-ray drive shortage
and
3) plant closure for Chinese new year
what's next? -
4) Plant explosion and no more G73's ever
But I'll sell you mine for $5k. -
Sounds like a bad murder-mystery on the lifetime network.
Actually, the laptops were found to contain:
1. The answer to the meaning of life
2. The cure for baldness
and 3. blueprint for cold-fusion
Thus, they were quickly destroyed along with their creators.
