Yeah I feel the same way. I was just checking to see if anyone had the most up-to-date info. I talked to Ken late last night (2/8) and he told me that it's looking like the end of February (ordered 2/5). However that was last night.

January 1st my preorder date ETA- Mid-Late January
Mid-January updated ETA- First week in February
End of January updated ETA- February 17th
First week of February updated ETA- Beginning to Mid-March
Seems that the week before shipments are expected to arrive there is a delay. Very frustrating that just as I think I should be getting mine shortly there is another delay. By the time we actually get these A1's the G73 might very possibly be obsolete -

Tax evasion would be a more proper term here, but ordering from out-of-state isn't tax evasion. It is in a literal sense since you're not paying taxes, but as far as the government is concerned, you didn't do business within the state and you never owed sales tax.
Buy in-state & say you're tax exempt (when you aren't) and then you're talking tax evasion. -
lol im in with you on that one. Seriously though I think if there was just a single delay to Beginning of march back when i preordered it I would be able to handle this much better than a week before I get it they knock it back a week, then a week later they knock it back another 2 weeks. lol I want to smash my head into a wall right now -

If there is a shortage of materials from China, maybe they have 2 week shut downs for migrant workers. But my girlfriend in Taiwan sure isn't getting 2 weeks vacation. -

Look so far no actual reseller has come on here and said the reasoning behind why it is delayed. We have all this 3rd party information from he said she said and copy and paste emails. Just wait it out. Justin got an ETA from ASUS for whatever reason, i mean its still and ETA. Which means the ETA can be later or sooner. Stay positive and optimistic you never know how things will turn out ie: the early shippment of A2s

And in any case, Chinese New Years in China doesnt start until February 12 our Calendar, and they don't go on there vacations and celebrate until the actual start of the New Year so they are not taking a break yet, they still have a couple more days before that happens..

Does anyone know the model of the bluray or standard dvd drive yet?

Man, that's just weird that they have a holiday that lasts two weeks. I was just reading about it.
Can't imagine all labor halting for two weeks straight here in the US. -

Perhaps someone with a G73jh could look for the country of manufacture? Or assembly, as it might be.

Note that this was the Monday, the 8th. 210 million people expected to use public transport within during this peak period. That's approximately 60-70% of the US population.
I definitely think the whole factory bit is plausible, but not necessarily true.
At any rate, I do wish you guys good luck with getting your units A.S.A.P. -

Other specs include: Blu-ray/DVD combo drive, 8-channel HD audio, up to 1TB HDD, 2MP webcam, WiFi BG ( no N?!?), Gigabit Ethernet, Bluetooth 2.1, 8-in-1 memory card reader, 8-cell battery, mini-VGA, and Windows 7 Home Premium.
If there is a purpose for angles in product design, I’m all for that. Non-purposeful angles just for the sake of angles? Nah. Unfortunately the ROG G73jh has a lot of angles just for the sake of having angles. I guess ASUS was thinking Lamborghini. And wouldn’t you want more pixels than less, especially when you’re playing games? I do. Give me the extra 120 vertical pixels and make it 1920 x 1200. And besides, most Blu-ray titles are much wider than 16:9 so you’ll end up with black bars anyway. Besides the two misgivings the ROG G73jh should be great for gaming.Click to expand... -
Any word on the display other than being "nice"? Will it beat my Sony AW290`s RGB LED or at least get anywhere over 70% Adobe RGB Color Gamut? I won`t be sold without some extensive testing of the screen.

I really hope the newegg laptops dont get sold out, as one of the reasons I need this laptop is the screen space I will need for some of my classes that I just dont have with my tiny dell. and it would be useless to buy it in march if not later leaving only a month or so before I wont even need it for school till next year.
point being: sadly I went from getting 2 A1's from justin to one X1 from newegg. hopefully my next laptop wont have to much of a delay
EDIT+: Would anybody be willing to sell me their laptop bag. not sure how we can work this out but I need the laptop now but would also like the bag....cus it is pretty cool.

Angles is an aesthetic complaint.. but might actually add to durability slightly. Regardless I like the case design , and the cooling design. No wireless N ?? spec page says -- WLAN 802.11 b/g/n Wireless LAN
... k thats 2 out of three. 1920x1080.. might as well get used to it.. plenty of desktop monitors are that rez now. I have several monitors between a few desks at home and one at work.. a few are x1200 and a few are x1080, as well as my tv being hooked up to my htpc that is 1080p too. They are all good, high resolutions. I don't really miss the 120 pixel height much on the 1080p screens (60 off the top, 60 off the bottom if you think about it). That is a pretty bogus complaint imo anyway for a notebook. Compare to the msi 1680x1050 rez or other notebooks at bestbuy for example, and 1080p sounds great to me. The only specs on paper you could really grumble about on this is that they dropped esata and express slot. Otherwise the specs look like a hell of a machine for a reasonable price.
I don't have mine yet so I can't really comment about the screen quality, but in general I wouldn't expect gaming notebooks to have stunning color accuracy. In fact, imo the best displays for gaming are very high response time panels, which don't have great color accuracy. They also have "bad" viewing angles but on a notebook especially, your face should be right in front of the screen in the 'sweet spot' naturally. People doing pro/semi pro still photo work should probably use expensive IPS panels, which are usually $700 - $1000 or more. You aren't going to find that on a gaming notebook, especially a ~ $1450 one. Luckily it has an hdmi out for external monitor if you need it.
The sony and dell rgb led backlit panel tech sounds good though. I wouldn't expect that sort of accuracy in this notebook's display as its not billed as such, so don't be surprised if its not. I'm hoping the screen looks good to the eye however. If I need to do extreme color accuracy for photos I can use my desktop monitor. -

Did Asus know all along from December that the first ETA, or the second or the third weren't realistic dates?
Why not be upfront with customers and give a realistic date, not an optimistic one? I can be wrong, but it seems that Asus have been a brand that seems to care for the customers, like their great warranty that goes beyond most manufacturers. What I don't like is to be treated with disrespect, so I truly hope(and that's all I can do) that this new ETA is a realistic one, as I think many customers will start to think different of Asus if another delay happen again. Unless they prove to be totally honest with us, telling the exact location and the cause of the delay (with pictures of the boxes inside the container at customs for example, or the padlock at the factory doors and the chinese celebrating)
But anyway, I pre-ordered mine in January and I am in Canada. Does anybody know if the shipments that come to Canada pass through US first?
I think I read many posts ago someone saying about Canada that would finally receive something before the US. Is there Asus Canada and Asus USA?
PCCanada sent me this email:
Additional Notes: Asus has indeed delayed their shipment of the G73JH-A1. I understand your disappointment and we are frustrated too. This is not just us, or Canada, but North America wide. The updated date of Mar-02-10 is at this moment a conservative date as we hope it is as early as the 26th of February. Your current backorder standing Canada wide according to Asus is #XXX of 100 of the first shipment from BC. Please remember, your credit card has not been charged and will not be until the product arrives in the Asus warehouse. The dates my jump around some more, but I will update your status only when I have confirmed information so do not be alarmed.
Thank you again for shopping at PC Canada.

This is my first post, and it has been a pleasure to read and to get to know some of you guys, so I decided to write. (maybe bcause boredom of not having my G73 here with me now). I've been learning a lot from this forum, and still lots to learn. Thank you all! -
noob question: if i wanted to buy and install an SSD in the G73 what should be the appropriate size/measurements of the said SSD? 2.5" in width?
-
They come in only 1 size, you can`t get it wrong so don`t bother thinking about which dimension is 2.5".
-
yup, 2.5"

Ok, I've been on the fence between the Dell xps 1645/1647 and looking at other things. Now there is this badarzified G73 that could be in my very hands with a matter of hours from newegg.
The G73 pretty much whoops everything under $2000, and it probably has an extra drive bay so I can throw in an ssd that I've really wanted. The actual laptop looks strong, and it has it's own potent version of charm and all. Basically it is perfect, but...
The thing is, I really also need to use my main laptop (which this would become) for work as well as play. Since I've lugged around 18.4" laptops in the past, the weight and size aren't really an issue for me (of course I'd be happy to have an affordable indestructible 2lb 17" laptop any day). Sometimes for work I have to whip out my laptop in front of large groups of people and such. Do you see where this is going? The reason why I was checking out the dell xps thing (I've also thought about a MBP, but unless they come out with something absurd soon, gaming and my pocket book would suffer in that land) is that I thought it had a nice combination of looking respectable, but also having power. I am more than a little skeptical with all the throttling/heat/limited gpu issues though.
This brings me back to the G73. For performance and actual work, I'm sure it would rock. It's damn near perfect for what I would want. What I'd like to ask, though, is in your honest opinions, do you think that the form of the G73 body is too over the top for a semi professional setting? I've seen pictures and some videos, but I'd like to hear if possible from those who have held the machine in their hands and anyone else with an opinion. Can I get away with sailing in with this massive millenium falcon-like ship into a room full of people paying me? Convince me please...if I should be convinced... -

I doubt anyone ever lost a client because of the laptop they used. Plus the ASUS looks like anyother large black laptop to people who are not paying attention. Also, if you have lugged 18.4 laptops, this ASUS will be invisible to them.
if you are doing a presentation, the decent speakers can actually be an asset. -

First time posting, but I feel like I need to get this off my chest.
This is the first and by the looks of it ONLY time I will be pre-ordering a laptop. If I had known what a joke this whole process was going to be I would have happily passed on this laptop, and looked at something else. Certainly doesn't inspire me with confidence when a manufacturer like Asus' puts forward an ETA (for their new "flagship" during CES no less) and then pulls a very disingenuous "oh sorry we need a couple more weeks" and then another "can we have two more weeks? Our employees are going on a vacation that we knew about years in advance!!"
Thanks Asus! Way to over-promise and under-deliver. Didn't you ever read that paper on Time being the new frontier of competition??? -

Sigh today was such a sad day.... First we get hammer with 12" of snow or more or whatever. First my car breaks down and the starters needs to be replaced. First the good news. Lucky for me my brother works at Advance auto, and says I still have the warranty so I just gotta pay for labor.
Now the bad stuff, instead of paying for a tow truck, my other brother convinve me to get AAA, and I did. I called at 9:30pm and report my problem and ask for a tow. I get a call from AAA at 9:45pm and they said someone is there already. I go there, and it's just AAA, not the tow truck, and the lady apogizes for the screw up, thinking I needed a jump, not a tow.
I get another call from AAA at 10:10pm, and they said ETA for the tow was 11:35pm. I get there at 11:20pm and wait and wait and wait... It's 12AM now and I call AAA, asking where the tow truck is, they call and said they are on the way. At 12:30am, AAA calls me and and ask if the tow truck showed up yet, I said no.....
They call the tow company and said, they were told an ETa of 20-25 minutes because of the snow... At 1:15am the tow shows up and more bad news..... The guy tells me since I didn't have my 2010 sticker on my plates, he can't help me as AAA won't pay him if my license was not valid. I told him, yes it is, the sticker fell off, so I left it at home. He tells me sorry can't help you. He tells me he has to go and can't wait for me to come back with my proof.
I call AAA and they tell me the same thing and tell me when I get the sticker on the plates, call them back.. Now I gotta drive back to my house and back to where my car died and wasted another 40 minutes. I find the sticker and it seems to fine again, and sticky too! I hurry back, put it on and call AAA. I call at 2am, and get a ETA of 3:20am.... He shows up, I show my proof, he apologize for the inconveince, I told him it's ok, you're just doing your job. I get home around 4am something.
Most of my night was spent sitting in my brothers car[alone] for 5+ hours and I come home and find out all this bad news.... I'm thinking to myself, STFU, don't you dare jinx yourself anymore!! You know, what else can go wrong.... hahahaha. The day began with me thinking, man things are going great! Yeah right lol.
Well I guess as bad as my day went, , I guess I can wait another month now..... Oh yeah I'm from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the former beer capital of the U.S... -

I'm guessing you'll have to get the bezel from Asus to make it match if the existing one doesn't come off.
