Personally, I think the resellers should charge a non-refundable deposit that goes towards the price of the product after it ships. If a buyer cancels his pre-order, then he loses his deposit.

The deposit doesn't have to be a substantial amount. Just enough to make people really THINK before they place a pre-order....

Ordered the A2 on Feb 2nd from Xotic. I don't own Blu-Rays, I don't like Sony, and I don't need a Blu-Ray player. I need a gaming laptop. Being agnostic sucks because you have no higher power to blame in these kinds of situations. You know. Like...Haiti. Just as bad.

Wow thats nice, I cant compete. I just have this simple 3x24" Dell U2410 setup with a 37" above it that acts as a 4th monitor on demand but also has my Wii on it.

Oh and I have the modular arcade control panel to go with it and the racing wheel.

Nothing quite so nice at work, but I still have 4 monitors :D

No I just browse the internet and listen to music lol.

Its a gaming/encoding setup but of the late not had any time to play games. I really miss playing dirt 2 and I am in the process of hooking my arcade controls back up so I can play some TvC on Wii and BlazBlue on PC as well as some SHUMPS.

Mass Effect 2 is getting a multi screen patch took so hope thats done by the time I get done playing ME1.

Anyways lets get back on topic with the G73 :D

My review I am targeting for this weekend. I'll come to work early tomorrow just so I can get a 2nd set of pictures and get my benchmarks done. The rest of the week I can just start putting it all together for publishing.

Hand made, has a certificate of authenticity, so its a real katana.

I used it for my iaido training.

If you live local by all means, I would love to get some 2 player action on the arcade setup it has 2 joysticks & button sets for a reason.

To run all 3 monitors as one monitor like I have for gaming you need a 5000 series ATI card, or a expensive piece of hardware called the MatroxTripleHead2Go. Other than that you can just use more than one video card and do normal multi monitor stuff or get a card that specializes in multi monitor settings.

Nvidia is working on there own version of eyefinity now to compete with ATI.

It supports DX11 but I am not too hopeful that it will run it :D

So far looks like DX11 is taking the same kind of turn DX10 did and instead of being used to make rendering easier they are just adding more stuff visually and making it harder. Its only a single laptop gpu and thus probably wont play most games "ultra DX11" settings.

There is a nice wikipedia page with all the DX11 titles listed on it though.

lol @ my old setup pictures. I finally replaced that dirt white mousepad. It worked so good though!

It looks so similar to the current setup but its actually different keyboard & monitors so its completely different.

I know it was just for fun! hehehe..it's still yours though! hehhe.. Anyways, if I use the TripleHead2Go I don't think just one card will handle 3 monitors at maximum settage. Is there something to do for adding 2 video card instead of 1?

Just run your cards in crossfire or sli to connect to the matrox unit. That is actually one of the benifits of using it is that you can have multiple video cards.

ATI just recently got crossfire enabled on the 5000 series cards in eyefinity mode.

You do not need any gpu power for desktop stuff only gaming, even a standard $30 card can run 3 monitors as long as it supports the resolution.

The other benefit of the matrox is you can use it with a laptop :D

eyefinity, because for the cost of the matrox unit I can almost buy a whole video card. I use a single 5870 card and it runs almost every game maxed out at 5760x1200 just fine. plus the matrox has limitations like max resolution, refresh rate, stuff like that.

Eyefinity has some limitations too though but they are less severe.

Very nice Vicious. I definitely like.

This is my main desk.. though a few peripherals have changed since. Left LCD is hansspree 28" (27.5") tn .. 2 or 3ms response time I think. 1920x1200. The right monitor is a sony fw900 'graphics professional' 24" widescreen trinitron crt that I'm running at 1920x1200 85hz. The displays look much better in person, my camera can't capture them.

My main pc is a matx pc "brick"/amplifier-looking case (11"h x 11-7/16"w x 14-3/8"d) that I can lug around but its a whole setup procedure with cabling + usb hub and usb speakers etc in a backpack, and a monitor either left at site or brought with like the old lan party days. The G73JH will be a huge upgrade from my 8.4" screen netbook that has been my only easily portable device besides my winmo phone for the last year +.

I thought about doing the triple monitor thing.. like getting a 30" 2560 x 1600 lcd in the middle at one point but decided against it, at least for the foreseeable future. My large three panel "B-wing"/boomerang corner desk will allow me room to run the new notebook alongside one the left or right wing if I want anyway.

Old pic from '08 during wall replacement.. kinda messy and birdnest-wires but it shows the desk and most of the chair where they were in the room back then. I also sold that 37" westinghouse lcd and got the 28" hannspree quite awhile ago.. the more evenly paired size-wise screens are a much better setup I think.

My favourite part of your setup would have to be the little pic you have next to your centre speaker (j/k)

You don't find a 28" a little large when you're sitting 1' away from it?

Btw I still have one of these pacific breeze notebook coolers from back before my hp died several years ago. It sucks air into the fans and shoots it out underneath the notebook. The notebook sits on little rubber feet on the edge of the cooler . From the reviews so far it sounds like I might not need to use it on the G73JH.

I guess in the pictures they might look closer to where you would be sitting than they are. If you look at the overhead of the keyboard and peripherals you can see that part of the desk is a considerable area. The base of the 28" lcd is pretty narrow so I can keep the monitor at the back edge of the desk. I have the crt monitor's screen placed at the edge of the desk also, using a small lightly stained wooden pillar/stand with a cabinet door (made for phone or microwave or something) for the monitor base. Its the same height as the desk. So what I'm saying is the crt monitor, though it has a bulky back and is heavy, is *at* the edge of the desk rather than on the desk as well.

So its more than 1' for sure, but no I don't think its too big. The 37" was way too big, and I eventually set it back considerably on its own stand (which was essesntially like having a smaller monitor closer perspective wise in hindsight). The sweet spot for desktop monitors is 22" - 30" in my opinion, depending on the desk.

I'm really looking forward to 1080p on the G73JH though. 17" is a good size without getting ridiculously huge for a notebook. Back when I had a functioning 17" multimedia laptop a few years back, before that piece of crap hp that burned up on me, it was a 1440 x 900 with a 7600go so this will be a huge difference. .. and actually what I'm used to now is a 8.4" 1024 x 600 netbook for the last year or so. lol

Ok, I just emailed Justin at 10pm today to sitch to the basic model[A1], since there's really no upgrade. I also asked that if there was any aviable A2, I would take that instead. He emailed me back around 11pm and updated my status.

I hope I only have to wait til mid March and not later. I can wait that long, but not sure after mid March.

Did we ever figure out what the TRUE dimensions of this beast are ? I know there are at least 3 different variations floating around (and that's just for width and depth alone).

Sorry if we had a definitive answer somewhere in this massive thread... I did my best to search for the answer, but didn't come up with anything conclusive.

I guess the best way would be for one of you lucky guys who owns one to pull out a tape measure if you would be so kind :D

    Thanks in advance

If this is your first chiclet style keyboard like me you may need to get used to it some. I find myself missing a key press now and then it feels like i pushed down the key all the way but I didnt.

So you need a creative and fun way to practice typing you say? I have a good solution for you.

Get a copy of the typing of the dead :D you will be a typing master in no time, that or you will be zombie food.

Yeah they are a pride and joy of mine because of the uniqe modular setup I created for them, they work on Wii/Gamecube/Dreamcast/Xbox/Playstaiton/Playstation2/PC/360/Sega/SNES so its nice for systems that dont really have good joysticks for them like the Wii or Dreamcast since they both have some good fighting games and shooting games.

Same thing here, but from PCCanada
    As I posted earlier:
" Additional Notes: Asus has indeed delayed their shipment of the G73JH-A1. I understand your disappointment and we are frustrated too. This is not just us, or Canada, but North America wide. The updated date of Mar-02-10 is at this moment a conservative date as we hope it is as early as the 26th of February. Your current backorder standing Canada wide according to Asus is #XX of 100 of the first shipment from BC. Please remember, your credit card has not been charged and will not be until the product arrives in the Asus warehouse. The dates my jump around some more, but I will update your status only when I have confirmed information so do not be alarmed.

So another reseller in Canada with similar dates.
As I asked earlier: anyone else heard anything about Canada receiving their shippment earlier than US this time?

Ordered on the 22/01/2010 (A1 with ssd) with Xoticpc , so I guess I still have a long time to wait :( . Tried to skip the line by changing it to A2s , but no luck.
