... Ill know tomorrow to some degree atleast .....
I have a 500gig already loaded to go into the machine with games on it and benchmarks etc.... Only thing ill do later that day is install my 256gb SSD but i wanna atleast see some basic stuff on the machine before i do it....

what?????????????????
I am a Chinese and now I am liveing in China, and to my mind I think I know exactly how the situation is here in China.
Situation is, the G73 is not available in China at present. And lots of gamers including me are now plaing for a group buy activity from the USA.
If someday the G73 make appearance in China, I think the price would be at least $2200. It is always too much expensive to buy a gaming laptop in China.
Would somebody like to do me a favor and hlpeing us to buy the G73? -
Email the resellers on page 1 of this thread
They will know the safe way for you to purchase a ASUS G73JH
Alex -
Yeah...i hav a super mega desktop for gaming at home but am not at home...am on uni campus...where this laptop comes in very handy...
-
I use Foobar. Foobar + WASAPI = Bit Perfect Bliss. If you want just for music organization, bar none MediaMonkey is the best, which can also be setup for bit perfect audio bliss. Foobar is just very lightweight and no bloat or anything. This is the skin I use with Foobar.
On the left, you got it. It automatically looks up the artist biography. It also finds the lyrics, which you see button for which scrolls as the song plays. There is the button that will list all the folders. And of course another which you can create infinite number of playlists. It's awesome. -
i hope the G73JHs are not a disappointment. it better not be anything like the release of the w90vp and the g51j. i'm not saying those laptops aren't good. there were just some issues that asus should have fixed before they released them. so high hopes for DDR5.
-
wow 500+ pages in 5 weeks.. asus is really coming up huh?
-
Asus has always been here, just never really well known in the laptop industry as they do not do alot of advertising like other names do
-
I am total up for buying this laptop (desktop replacment). I just wonder about the group discount thread and why the prejudice against newbies like myself? (the 5 post minium)I just learned about this forum and hope I am not too late to the party.
-
the 5 post minimum is to prevent bots from creating accounts and spamming all over the place and crashing the forums. Just a safeguard Charles and the NBR team have in place to protect us and them.

I have to say, this is the first ASUS notebook that really excited me design and function wise. And that is perhaps the reason why so many people are excited by it.
The ASUS consumer series have always lacked a high res screen and designs were always shiny plastic based. The G series had the high resolution screens but lack a sophisticated design and cooling system, even though they had good hardware.
I hope the G73 is the direction that Asus will be heading in the future, both in design and function.
Im an architect and the G73 reminds me of an OMA/REX building that let function be the generator of the design while also not neglecting the aesthetics of the final product. -
WOW, I3g4cy99, thanks for the incredibly quick response. Is there a list for GenTech group discount still open? I have read the first 20 pages of posts but have to get out now and shovel 12 inches of snow. This latitude D610 I have now has to GO!
-
Exactly what Macpod said. If Asus continued their awful trend of single fan system, shiny plastic, and embarrassing lights, I would not be awake right now (can't sleep waiting for it to arrive). I would definitely have waited for Clevo/Sager instead and spent the extra money. I have the Asus G1, I rub off my fingerprints, smudges, dust all day long. And already had the GPU fry TWICE because of the 1 fan cooling system.
MSI still doesn't get it. They have the HD5870 also, but the screen is not adequate. Gaudy bright red design. Ridiculous looking lights that are quite embarrassing. Excited to show friends cause of it's performance? But ashamed it's appearance. It's a computer, not a flashing toy to keep a 1 year old entertained! And of course, looking at the MSI, I only see one vent from the Xotic pictures.... Not cool. One fan for i7 and HD5870? Pffft.
Unless these pictures are not the new MSI, this is not cool. Plus it's sucking it up hot air from the bottom, where the HDD is heating the bottom, the Ram and from CPU/GPU/Chipset. Not a cool idea either.
As soon as you upgrade the ram to 8GB like the G73, the MSI is more expensive even after a few upgrades on the G73 and it's lacking everything else that Asus finally fixed. This is what caught people's attention to the G73, the unbelievable value and attention to what Gamers/Notebook enthusiasts really wanted, not what they assumed we wanted.
The screen is what is lacking here the most. I don't think it's hard to find a good deal on a notebook with good GPU and CPU. But then you look at the screen...
- But then some people are already excited for this, the ports etc. So not everyone thinks the same

good luck with the snow shoveling. its snowing like crazy over here in Pittsburgh. Im glad mine isn't coming in tomorrow because I know FedEx isn't going to be delivering anything in this weather.

Thanks lamakila123. Whatever does not kill you makes you stronger! Did anyone else have to try 6 times to type the characters in the fuzzy block to join this forurm? and is there a tutorial on how to subscribe to a thread? I saw the Raid option, for the now legenday G73..and for raid 1 will the 80 Gig SSD as primary work with the 500 GIG Drive? Thanks to all , this forum is awesome!
-
No snow here in MA, and expect flurries
No snow accumulation expected.
-
That doesn't sound right. RAID 1 mirrors whatever data you have. So the data is redundant, whatever is on SSD will be on the 500 GB Drive. Unless you only want to use 80 GB of the 500 GB drive? Do you mean Raid 0?
With the 80 SSD and 500 Drive, I would think Raid off is the best option. -
No snow where i live in Australia, but no G73JH's Either
-
Has anyone confirmed how many atennas G73JH has? Any point in the wireless upgrade?
Also, is the RAM 1066Mhz or 1333Mhz? -
Didn't you notice that the thread is closed? Also if you want to order now, you are too late the on the first shipments.
First shipments (All available units already gone).
The G73JH-A2 (DVD DL) arrived Feb. 5th, shipped 5th and rest shipped week of the 8th.
First shipment (All available taken EXCEPT BTO. BTO still only has a few dozen pre-orders as of February 5th 11 A.M EST. Might be changed now, give them a call).
G73JH-A1 (BluRay) will be arriving on February 17th.
2nd Shipments for both A1/A2:
Asus will have them March 2nd. Resellers will have them few days later. If you use free ground shipping, you are looking at 2nd to 3rd week of March. Maybe even later.
It's not 12 o Clock P.M yet Allanh. Patience, FedEx is working hard still. I called Justin earlier yesterday and he said they were too busy trying to get all the overnight shipments out. They haven't had time to open G73 up for the custom work, so no one knows yet. -
Guys sorry about the post about Ken earlier today. My bad, I do not want to appear as a shill for his company, I was just happy about his offer! I did edit the post so please do not banish me. This forum interaction is all new to me. Allanh, I see both options on various sites: System Memory
8GB (4 SODIMMS) DDR3/1066 Memory Standard 8GB (4 SODIMMS) DDR3/1333 Memory$255.00 12GB (4 SODIMMS) DDR3/1333 Memory$495.00 ...... -
He already knew this. JOSEA the N71 and the G51 are also listed stock as 1066 Ram. But yesterday for the N71 and few days before for the G51, owners were confirming that they were arriving with 1333 in the stock, un-costomized orders. We're hoping it will be the same with these first shipments. Asus ran out of stock on the 1066 ram and had to use 1333 we suspect.
While you are waiting to make a decision, you might want to take the time to read the previous postings, it's a lot, but really probably all the questions you have are already answered many times. -
I wonder if Ken or Donald had a chance to check yet?
-
Hmm you could certainly call. I just know, ExcaliberPC who are also in California like Ken, said they did not have the A2 on hand until in the afternoon. They were still in transit from Asus to their location. And in order to get the overnight shipments out, FedEx requires it ready by 5:00, realistically 4:30 for the reseller. But you can call Ken if you want.
I talked to Donald though also. He said they didn't have any A2's, nor are they taking orders for them. They are only taking orders for the A1 right now.
I tried sleeping twice, I failed. I feel like I'm 5 years old again on Christmas eve. This is embarrassing. -
hello, Josea, thanks.
But what I was asking is whether the stock RAM is 1333 or 1066
-
cheers, mate.
I guess I will just wait until someone gets hold of the actual machine and check
-
It's in East Boston. I'm about an hour away from there. I know FedEx usually has their trucks out of the sorting station by 8:30 A.M, it's 7:30 now. So hopefully be here in a few hours. First thing after taking pictures of the unboxing, I'll check to see which ram it is.

Oh crap, I just remembered my wife has a friend from graduate school coming over today. I'm supposed to work on her Sony Vaio. I don't have time for that! She's cuttin' into my g73 quality time. Remember on the movie "a Christmas story" where Ralphie gets his Little Orphan Annie secret decoder ring in the mail? And he runs upstairs and locks himself upstairs to decode his first message? That's what I want to do with my g73. I want to lock myself in my office and game/bench the he'll out of this machine. You know, for the sake of posterity.

I like that, I cant get my foobar to look like anything good. I want a nice album view.
I have something maybe not as pretty but that I like better for organization and its call songbird, if you enable the multi tab interfact you can filter on the fly artist/genre/album kinda like a big spreadsheet makes it easy to find exactly what you are looking for in a flash or just similar music. -
Good luck to you all.. Getting yer machines today!
bench it, bench it! -

Thanks for the tip Ziddy123. I guess I'll sort my music while it's in the external HD, then once doubles are deleted I'll move them over to the lappy. I know iTunes has that feature, but I have over 80,000 songs and it would be a bear to have to sit there all day ctrl+clicking every double. If I'm not mistaken, iTunes shows both the original and the copies, so there is no "batch delete". I bet my doubles are near 10,000 so imagine having to click through 10,000 songs.
So, thanks for the tip, I'll give that a look while my G73 is in transit. Looks like it left Memphis at 4:47, arrived at Grand Rapids sort facility at 6:24. That's an hour away from me. + rep -
Right below the spectrum display you see a few buttons. On the left side gives me an option to switch a spreadsheet like display with columns for artist, genre, album, length, year, and can just filter on the fly. I didn't make this skin, there are tons of them out there. I browsed HydrogenAudio for it.
Also MediaMonkey is even better than Songbird I think and hehe, there is a Songbird skin for it also
And it seems to me you know programming, both Foobar and MediaMonkey are heaven for programmers who want everything customized to their every need. And it's heaven for like myself since people post their extensions, mods readily.
Both MediaMonkey and Foobar can search for doubles. Both monitor your albums and can analyze for doubles, even if the filenames are different, but are the same song. -

i use songbird to transfer music to my palm pre and media monkey for music.

I'll give foobar another shot this will be like the 5th time I downloaded it and never used it.
Songbird is cool its simple but effective and it has the multi tab interface. It does also sync with my N900 but I still use mass storage mode and drag & drop. -
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
Yeah I would like that skin/layout too. Good starting point for me. Last time I got stuck just trying to add some custom columns so that I could sort by genre. -
