I am still a little upset that ATI cut all those SP's from the mobility 5870.

    Kinda pulling a nvidia here.....

Sleey, it's kind of true, but then again.. not...

Still, it's no way near what nvidia do.. Here's to hoping they don't take it any further, though! :) (rebranding ftl?)

Yeah, that and using a 128-bit bus.

I just wish they'd finally throw out something close to the desktop parts.

I mean, the 4870 has 800 sp's. Why not bump it to 1200 on the 5870?

That does suck, but to be fair I did not order from the same reseller and because Asus distributes to each of their reseller, it isn't mine or others fault that your reseller had 10X more pre-orders.

But I hope you get your machine soon, I really think everyone who pre-ordered will be satisfied.

Why play your full hand when Nvidia has been sitting on their arses for over a year. They just have to throw some scraps out to beat them, knowing that they have a lot of headroom to move around with. (Extra SP/256bit like you said)

Maybe mobile fermi will change things a bit, whenever they get around to releasing it ;)

I really hope Nvidia pulls a miracle out with Fermi. I really do. It keeps both companies honest and prevents them from re-branding so much.

I think Fermi is another reason Ati is playing it's hand so slow in the mobile market so far.

I know that. I have been following the thread. Since the 920 is a configurable option, it's still not acceptable to have those problems with such a high-end machine. I'm just very wary of multi-gpu laptop solutions. (Not just AW).

I have a good feeling about the upcoming X-Fired model. Let's not forget, these issues primarily appear with the 920XM, and we will be seeing considerably less wattage here (2X 5870 -vs- 2X 4870). Also, Dell's appearance in the forums, show they are very proactive in addressing this issue.

So far, the 5870 is making a great showing here. I think things will work out nicely!

    :)

Kinda lame because evensen007 and I were one of the first ones to pre order this thing and we have to wait one more week.

That's a huge plus with the M17 over the M17x. If you are happy with the quality of the system and the screen then I know it's top notch. ;)

My pre-order is back on. I have a more accurate date now.

I think you will be sorely disappointed if you're waiting on Dell. It's not going to be Dell who fixes the issues as usual. It's going to be Joker, Mandrake, Quad, Moo etc...
Dell never even figured out the original m15 and m17 issues. It was those forum members who resolved the issue.

One thing is for certain this machine has exceeded my expectations gaming wise... Everything thing i have thrown at it has been getting much better FPS then i thought it would ... I use FRAPS all the time so i know my framerates and have had quite a few machines as of late ... I doubt anyone will be dissapointed with this machine for gaming :)......

Perhaps you are not grasping the 'whole' of my point, but it doesn't matter. What I am waiting on is beyond the M17x-R2, and I don't believe the issues you raised, will be a concern at that time.... that's all.
