I 100% agree with you there, elvn, if the screens native is such and such, the marks/tests/games should all be run at native, (Thus why i requested 1080p vantage run earlier.)
This is especially why i opted for a very low native res, and its served me massive justice.
Some real world testing would be nice, but im actually fairly confident that the ASUS, can keep the internals cool enough for full real world testing.
I think ATI gpus are quite resistant to heat (different transistors or something? very durable though)

If that's true, and I order mine in two weeks...
I have the weirdest feeling I'm not gonna get my hands on this with the demand I see here. Justin@xotic, how's the stock levels, brother? Can a poor student like myself wait it out two more weeks for funds and still be able to get an A1? ::fingerscrossed:: -
lmao I'm tempted to think of more stupid questions for you guys. (just kidding haha) but seriously thanks for taking the time to answer its appreciated. after going through all the bull with the dell xps 16 I just want to be sure I'm getting a good machine this time!

OK, I'm not actually the 12,000(ish) pre-orderer, I pre-ordered in Jan 8 really. When I put that in, I saw how many others had ordered before me and felt like I was that far down the list, but after watching how many have ordered after me, not so much anymore. Looking square at the 17th for shipping. Can't come soon enough

Some of you guys need to lighten up with your answers to these questions. If the questions bother you, then just don't answer.

"Stupid repeated questions wouldn't bother me if I at least had this thing already, so either make this laptop magically appear at my house or find a forum that actually doesn't have every detail discussed, from the technology of the i7 processor to complicated science of the presence/or absence of a Blue ray reader."
And here we all thought she was just angrily banging on her keyboard, when actually it was focused frustration.
But there is one thing we haven't talked about, that amazing "Search this Thread" tool. It is amazing. Its crazy how it works, you type something in a box and something happens and then, like magic, all the references to it pop up order by date (I'm pretty sure its witchcraft, but it works). Someone might wanna try forwarding this to yahoo or google, they could probably use a feature like this! -
I'm not sure if I am more amused by your alegorical translation of euisungkim's frustration, or the fact that you have called "him" a her.

Right back to the tread, so the G73 is flawless, has DPC latency been tested?
Also, some direct x 11 games would be cool, some results for them (i saaw the dirt 2 one and that was very impressive.)
There was a benchmark i saw for dx11 a while back (had like strange floating islands and stuff if i recall lol) that would be quite good to find.
-
you're lucky, i placed my order on jan 25 !!!
-
Anyone run prime95 or furmark yet?
-
No custom orders but least you'll have an A2, I do my own thermal anyway. Was 3 left last I looked, good rep. If it helps you get an A2 just a bit earlier then its all worth it hehe.

Saw some of the temp postings a few pages back. I see that there is confusion as to why there are 3 of them.
There are 3 main parts to a GPU that usually have a temp probe.
The Core
The RAM
The PWM's
Most people only see the Core temp of the card and never know the other 2 existed. So when you see 70c for your temp and you think thats good (and it is) you never knew the RAM or PWM was running 90c witch is also good those parts operate at a much higher temperature.
The most logical order for those 3 temps is this:
Low Top - Core
High Mid - RAM
Low Bottom - PWM
The reason for this is that I know the core is one of the two low tempatures and its probably the first/primary sensor so it would be the first reading not the last one, however it could be the last one.
Next is that both PWM and RAM can run very hot, way hotter than your core. The PWM gets adversly hotter with more voltage. My 4850's in my desktop it went from 90c to over 100c with just a slight overvolt. That is what drives the tempature of those is the voltage. Given that the RAM is almost always hot, and that laptop counterparts are made to run on less voltage it makes sense that the next low temperature is the PWM.
That just leaves the High temp in the center and of course thats the RAM and its always a high temp and it can get way hotter than the core with no problems. -

I really want to order the A1 now... but I have no money.
I need a job now!
-
Good explanation. Does someone here have a desktop 58xx series? Then we can measure the same temperature points using AMD GPU Clock Tool and HWMonitor and the CCC. From there, we should be able to pick off which is the core (at least).
EDIT: I mean, if CCC says for example, 80C, we should be able to assume that's the core. Now if HWMonitor and AMDGPUCT also measure that same temperature, then we'll know which is the core (in AMDGPUCT). From there, we may be able to knock off which of the other sensors is for the RAM and PWM. -
Anyone know where to get a service manual for the G73?

LOL. Thats funny, this whole time I assumed he was a chick cuz of the picture. Kinda depressed now, thought it was cool a cute chick was on here, as educated as anyone bout this lappy, breakin the mold. Damn, sterotypes have been re-implemented.
Now I gotta sulk at the realization that this thread is indeed one big technological sausage fest....Damn! -
I KNEW IT!!
euisungkim is a guy after all!!
Whew, finally someone inadvertently clears that up for me
EDIT:
Whew, well at least I wasn't the only one. Freaking kim, I can't believe you would tease us like that

Holy I can't keep up with this thread anymore. Can some just let me know when there is a review...
Thx -
I wish, i could earn my own money, and be rich to give 1 G73JH as a gift; But see, I'm just a civil engineer student
Good luck with finding job

I believe it was called "heaven" or something

Yes! thats the one, some runs of that would be pretty cool! i believe that is a fairly good bench.

I have a 5870, but AMDGPUCT doesnt not give me any temp info and it has like 8 different ones listed. Looks like its not working correctly for my system. -
Ahahaha
... Laughed so much... Nice alternative btw
-
You need to select one of the sensors, check enable, and click start.
EDIT: you need to download the version for the desktop cards. The one I linked and you are using on your Asus is only for mobility 5870. -
None of those temps match up with CCC? How about HWMonitor?
-
If you go to ASUS main page. Then go to services->support->download->(insert model here) you can get to the download page (includes a manual).

Is this really true? I dont see the benefit too this. Is it a software that enables the extra OC or is it hardware? It wouldn't make much sense to have hardware limit the overclocking on one and not the other. If it is true, then I assume the A1 is the one allowing for more overclocking. Details please if anyone has it. Searched the thread but only found this. Please elaborate cuz I just switched to the A2 to get it quicker as I can just install a BD-R myself, but this is another story. -

I know Quadmire, I saw your other post. Thanked for it too.
-
any reviews on this laptop yet? Like with benchmarks and tests?
-
Not much other than what Quadzilla and 0100 1010 0101 0011 have posted so far. Vicious is working on an indepth review, but that won't be done for a few days.
-
Do people who are reading the temperature reading I posted actually READ what I posted?
Those readings are from me overclocking both the GPU and Memory by 100 clocks and Power4Gear set at Maximum. -
You forgot xoticpc's review. Here : http://www.xoticpcforums.com/showthread.php?t=5621
-
Speaking of Power4Gear, how much does it overclock the processor by? Also, does it still work if you put in an aftermarket processor upgrade, such as the 820QM?
-
Thxx dude!!
-
Quagmire LXIX Have Laptop, Will Travel!
No it's not true, it was a facetious post by what is likely to be a frustrated person because the question has been asked and answered to death.
A1 has blu-ray drive
A2 has DVD drive
That's the only difference. -
Please explaine -
It was a joke, folks....
-
Power4Gear does NOT OC. It's used to create profiles. So when you are gaming, one profile sets the maximum at 100% CPU usage. Whereas if you were on battery, you set the maximum to 50% CPU usage.
-
Sorry about that, I thought it did. However, Asus DOES have a utility that overclocks the CPU, right? Would this utility still work with, say, a 820QM aftermarket upgrade?
