looks weird from the back

is a finger print magnet or is it tat hardened/rubbery style.. looks like a plain hardened rubbery stuff...
Also, is that the official release design or just a standard showroom design to roll it out quickly for show... -
what is the total size of the laptop when the screen is closed ?
about 18" ? -
i freaking love the back design. so simple!
I didn't like the designs for the past few g70 and g50 series, but this thing?!?! omg! idk i like this much better.
and yea looks weird from the back but we're guna look at the screen not the back arent we?
-
As long as it keeps the laptop heat under control it's all cool
-
VERY VERY true!! I love the raised design also, gives it a canted feel for typing already and should allow for much more airflow room inside to keep fresh air circulating... Hopefully ASUS will allow us the ability to control fan speeds and there kickin temps.. again just hopin!
-
It's 17.3 but since the frame is a little bit huge compared to the regular 18 laptops, it will be around 18 which is too big for me
Sony 18
Acer 18
As you can see the frame is kinda huge in the G73 -
but should allow for excellent airflow by the look and design of the thermal managements inside!!
-
Didn't know if anyone noticed, but on XoticPC they updated the G73 to support up to 16 GB of Ram. So those of you you ordered it with 8 and wants more, I'm sure you can have them change your order! I'm gonna be ordering mine with 12, just for fun ;-).
-
give it a few hours and Gentech will update as well ={
-
8gb is overkill as it is... 12 is MEGA, and 16 is Gigantor overkill... who the hell needs 16gb of ram for computing tasks? thats like nasa level stuff
-
You'd save at least $100 if you purchased the ram from newegg and upgrade it yourself.
If you play with multiple VTs, having more ram is always a good thing. -
bump for thoughts...
-
From the looks (and this is purely speculation), it looks like the same rubber-like material from the G51 palm rest. This is definitely a plus over any glossy surface which can make your laptop look constantly dirty.
-
so you think this will be the final release design then? That would be awesome!! Less work for my Microfiber cloth
-
Thread is on fire... this thing look sick! I am sooo glad they made it look simple (besides the cooling, which IMO is kinda awesome lol). I like the one color, nothing too flashy look. God I hope I can get this thing!
-
I think that wont be the final Design
More like a prototype for the show
Because the CG screens? it had silver on the side/back
-
You don't think they have a final design for the laptop they are releasing in a matter of weeks?
I don't follow brand-spanking new laptops at CES enough to know if that is standard practice...is it? -

Don't rain on the parade!!
-
See my edit with picture, we can't really tell anything for sure yet though.
-
This laptop can probably be found somewhere in the movie Road Warrior, and I love it.

OMG am I reading this right??? RAID 0/1 for this laptop!! OMG it gets better by the minute!!! -
I wonder how many people just placed their preorder from seeing that LOL
-
Yes, i thought it was pretty much known lol that's why i didn't post the specs screen
Those 7200RPM 500GB reach 103MB/s (max) so you can get 200MB/S with raid
1TB SSD anyone?
-
/heartattack!!! OMG this just keeps going its almost 2 good to be true!! Now question is, will the resellers auto raid these to user wishes?
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
i'm alittle mad the keyboard is chicklet like the mac ones but i heard they are more durable in the long run?
-
its not even close to an SSD. the better part of SSDs is access time, which no mechanical drive comes close to.
-
tbh, I wasnt expecting that... G51J didnt have raid support, so I didnt expect this line to have it.
-
The G51-J(unk) was just a failure all around. It's best not to think about it. -
agreed on that Joker, just didnt expect it to support it at the prices for this mega of a machine!
-
Well, I just shat myself and need to change pants, aka drive home from work.
Thanks all for making my day. -
so purrrrty
-
lol does this laptop even lack like anything?
Hell if they priced it at 2.000$ instead of 1600$ it still would be sold out for like 3months at least SPECIALLY with Nvidia complete absence. -
probably just a fingerprint reader it seems
and X-fired lol
-
The hype level is getting worrisome. I hope the price and specs don't slip at all. And I hope there are no issues.
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
i like the cooling on the laptop.
-
Watch it BSOD like the G51J >_> lol nah I really hope not..
-
Definitely a winner...for crying out loud...Im selling my DV7!!!
Who said Alienware??? -
It does use your eyes for sign-in which is better than the glitchy Finger print reader (mine broke twice /hp laptop) plus my brother opened my laptop like 3 times while i was sleep lmao
so i changed it back to password protected
-
I believe that asus wont let us down, the have the extremely new thermal management design in this system with its ergonomically designed chassis for maximum airflow with the dual fans to disperse the air, I highly doubt this system will be a disappointment! but then again, we will know.. BTW, has an official launch date been announced at CES yet?
-
I will hunt you down if this happens!!! Dont jinx us!!!
-
Battery Life 71min only
5870 is power hungry it seems. -
There are always some issues. Just hope they aren't severe.
-
its a gaming notebook, what do you expect... site in Ohare int. airport for 5 hrs doing a report on air travel on it
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
who care about the battery life? -
I probably used the battery on my M17x for a total of 5 minutes, lol.
-
This will stay in my room for severe gaming...good point in the battery...good I got a netbook for that!
-
just saying lol to give you an idea of how a beast is the 5870 XD
if the official battery life is 71min (Power save mode/Brightness low/Wireless off lmao/etc you know the usual fake) then in real life it will properly last 30min or less while gaming
I personally don't care about battery life, i take my laptop to friends house/change room in my house/etc and of course traveling with a desktop is not an option
