If ATI cards do indeed have significantly better AA performance than Nvidia, then even with the 128bit bus I'll be swayed back over into pre-ordering the G73 when my funds roll in.

yes. 2aa increase performance. and 8aa sometimes doesn't show a performance hit when on.

Striker posted up some videos on the owners forum of the G73

whos gonna have news from amd/ati ces show
-
No one I guess....
-
Thats what im waiting on, im stilling going to get it, beside it'll be my first gaming laptop, so i really have nothing to compare it with
-
The event they held today from 4-6 was for resellers and developers behind closed doors. It looks like we will have to wait for their press event until tomorrow of Friday.
-
So do we have a schedule for their info release?
-
! You know that was copy/pasted from a 3rd party hardware site, right?
-
No. It's weird, their event was listed on the CES show page schedule but now it's gone. It will definitely be tomorrow or Friday though.
-
i heard ati cards dont support 16aa or something or they have 24aa but the quality isnt as good as nvidias?
Can someone confirm or deny this? -

As far as the 128bit thing goes, ATi could be doing this to make room for a mobility 5970?
-
Would that not make it the Mobility 5970x2 then lol ... Here we go again with that whole debacle
...
-
problem...
Memory Bus Width 256 Bit
Memory Type DDR3, GDDR3, GDDR5
i dont know that much since i just started researching laptops and their parts recently but should the memory type really have so many different variations? those are for the 5870.
edit: know its all gddr5 and all but just saying that maybe notebookcheck isnt concrete on the information they have received as yet so they just threw up what they got based on leaked information. Previously it was said that they get their info direct from manufacturer's which i do not doubt but guess we all just have to wait and see >_< oh waiting so hard -
No, that's accurate information. If the card supports and uses DDR3, GDDR3, or GDDR5 and differant notebook manufacturers can have a choice of having either one than they will note it. Not all manufacturers will need or want to use GDDR5. My nvidia 8600m GT came in several flavors.. DDR2/DDR3, Acer chose DDR2, while Asus chose DDR3. It a good thing they do that, as it gives you an idea, and makes you aware of the performance differances from the same card. I think Acer??? Or someone else chose to use the nvidia gts 250m as well but with DDR3 instead of DDR5 and they noted that. IMO.. There doing a great job. Check out the mobile CPU benchmark page. The 3DMark benchmark numbers for the i7-720 can be found there.

ah cool ... thank you for the clear-up ^_^
-
Here is more 5800 info ... bagienny over in the Gaming section found this so he gets the credit
... 128bit it is...

hi guys, I'm looking into this laptop as well but can someone confirm the design?
the design on this page http://hothardware.com/Articles/Asus-Announces-Four-New-Laptops/
is completely different from the one on Xoticpc or Gentech.
I do like the stealthy look more than the other, hoping that it will be that design.
Cheers,
Mick -
To my knowledge the G73 shown on that page is the one we have been talking about
-
Yep thats the one, the pictures on the vendors sites are different because they just released the pictures yesterday, i guess asus wanted to keep it under wraps
-
Woo, nice. Thanks guys. now just waiting for an opportunity to order it

Info on the 5000 series radeon -
judging by this alone the 5870 has more memory bandwidth than the 280m or the 4870, so it should be killer at high res.
-
Yeah, very decent upgrade from the 260m so I'm still sticking to my pre-order

the benches ATI has there show it between 25% and 50% better than the 280m in games/benches.
-
That was a good read and everything they said about DX11 and its future is what i have been thinking all along
..
Thanks for the link... -
Yep i cant wait till someone gets a hold of the G73 and puts it through its paces with some high res benching and gaming... It will be more interesting coming from an outside and hopefully non biased source then straight from ATI themselves...
-
they did it at all high resolutions which makes me think the 5870 is better at high res but more evenly matched at low res.
-
128-bit floating point HDR rendering
Bummer
confirmed
-
if it performs better than the 280m why complain
-
Yeah i know what i saw in those graphs but i dont want them info from them
... Thats all i am getting at ... I am anxious to get the G73 but we should know all this before anyone has it in there hands ...
-
=P so, how exactly does eyefinity work? do I need a different cable? if so....where to get one? =P I wanna use an eyefinity setup!
-
im not complaining, was just holding out that last thread of hope for 256bit... but I will still be 100% completely satisfied with this machine without question.
-
Will the G73 even have the output jacks for Eyefinity?
-
I hope so. would be my only disappointment if it doesn't.
-
What exactly is Eyefinity suppose to do... is it like a rival to HDMI or something?
-
Same, though even if it doesn't I won't be THAT disappointed.
Btw, did your buyer sell his Dell yet? -
Well they said it was up to each and every company to implement it so......
I hope but wont hold my breath for it on the mobile machines... I had a 5850 for my i7 desktop i toyed around with for a few weeks and its an amazing card but didnt have any eyefinity toys to attach
...
-
ahhhhh ok, gotcha!!
-
Now for the agonizing wait for the machine to ship and seeing actual benchmark tests and gaming performance ><
-
Yea, I go home for 2 weeks at the end of March, I hope it ships before then, or else I may re-direct my shipping if its going to ship while im at home, this will save ken and the gang at Gentech some shipping costs
-
Pretty sure it will. I'm assuming at the latest an early March release.
-
mmmmmmk /fingers crossed!!
