I got the laptop 2weeks ago from GentechPC.
I hope I can return this laptop and get G73JH-A1. I sent a message to Ken Lee, I don't really care if i have to pay 10% restocking fee, i just wish i could return this thing.

For convenience sake, the fantastic Mobility Modder is available from:
    http://www.hardwareheaven.com/modtool.php

Make sure you have MSXML 6.0 installed (if you have Vista or Windows 7, you do - if you have XP, there's a link at the site), and then just follow the instructions for driver nirvana :D

To those who got a good one, huzza! I just didn't fancy my chances...

Chomp chomp, mushrooms good! Except that spotted one is making me feel a little strange... are palm trees supposed to melt like wax when you look at them?

I don't know the story about the W90.

    What happened, briefly?

The Desktop core i7s support triple-channel. Mobile i7s are only dual-channel. By using 4 memory slots, ASUS is making a very smart move to allow the first cheap 8 GB option while still taking full advantage of dual-channel functionality (just like desktop motherboards offer a total number of memory slots that comes out as a multiple of the available memory channels).

What, you don't want to read all 10,724 posts in the thread?

Me neither, but the bottom line was many of the machines had reliability issues out of the box that could not be resolved by ASUS; I don't know what the final outcome was for those buyers. The model was not an overall success, let me put it that way.

Again to those who got a good one: huzza! And no disrespect intended.

A number of the G1s overheated. :p If you look a few years back, you'll see posts complaining about laptops shutting down from overheating.

As far as I know, the larger G machines tend to be okay. The smaller ones, however, do tend to run warm, but not necessarily overheat.

LOL! My, my, my..... tallan, tallan, tallan..........

Different strokes, for different folks. Individual choices are varied and wide, as the stars of the universe..... and not all would agree with yours, and likewise, you would not necessarily agree with many choices of others. So, there is no need to expect all to be of like mind and one accord..... and certainly no need to be disparaging, condescending, or challenging the choices that others make.

There will be 'early adopters', excited with the prospects of immediately getting their hands on the newest technologies..... and there will be folks more cautious, waiting to see how the new technologies play-out. This is a matter and right of individual choice, so why bicker over whom is right or wrong here?

Can we be happy with our own choices, and at the same time, respect the choices of others?

Regarding the W90, I personally have far more reason to be upset with this than you. If you were not personally hurt in this and your are happy with your choice, why is it now necessary to be critical..... referring to others as, 'Pied Piper', or 'lemmings'?

The bottom line here, is there is no 'Pied Piper'..... and there are no 'lemmings'..... just individual people here, making their own decisions. Noboby here is being coerced, or having their arms twisted. You may not agree with their choices, but you can at least show some respect.

Having your own opinion is fine, but when expressing it 'publicly', perhaps take care in how you present that opinion. Otherwise, you show no respect at all..... and if all you can do is 'rain-on-the-parade', or have nothing good to say, then why say it..... for what purpose..... and to what end?

All I am really saying here, is we can present our opinions more amicably, and choose our words more respectfully. Quite simply, folks who feel compelled to 'troll' are antagonistic, have zero respect for their fellow forum members, and ruin the community!

On a final note, I have been reading some positive things in the W90 thread, and those folks have made some significant break-thru's.

    :)

Does anyone know if Gentech is going to ship the laptops with 1333MHz ram as some have purchased with on the pre-order or issue an appology statement to those for having a typo on there website or something?

This was a typo error, and it has been corrected. I do not feel we should take advantage here. Most knew this was an error..... it has been corrected, and should we expect to take it out of the reseller pocket? I know some will have this expectation, but it really was a short-lived typo error. Checking my own ethics here, I for one, will not be expecting something for nothing. Also, I feel sure the reseller would be happy to apologize, to those who really need it.

    Just my opinion........

    :)

I agree, but I wasn't necessarily saying that I would expect them to follow up on it. Was just curious as to what the normal manner of recourse is here. This is my first time buying from a reseller other than newegg.com or tigerdirect.com for computer or computer parts. We all know there will be some people out there that will be upset as they saw this error and ordered with it in mind that it was coming with that.

    Yeah, understood.......

Again, I am sure the reseller would be happy to apologize or discuss this, with all who feel upset.

I'm not upset! I just want my G73JH, ASAP!

How come th 3 Year ASUS GLOBAL Warranty, 24/7 Support is for $119 over at XoticPC and $129 at Gentech??
i thought resellers would have no say in the price of warranty packages as they're from ASUS?

Also, Gentech discounting $79 for downgrading to DVDRW and Xotic discounting $89 for same..

Edit:Gentech lists the chipset as Intel P43 Express chipset + ICH10 and Xotic lists it as Intel® PM55 Express Chipset
    which one is it?

Is there any chance that the prices will go up once the pre-order ends and is released officially?
I know it never happens but just wanted to know for sure... XoticPC or GentechPC reps' response would be welcome

It's not worldwide, they ship to:
    Australia
    Canada
    Guam
    Puerto Rico
    United Kingdom
    United States
    Virgin Islands (US)

But i tried ordering without signing up, although i dont think account holder get more shipping destination, or do they?
XoticPC, however, does have worldwide shipping
If Gentech reps reading this, would you be willing to ship to India, even though it's not listed?

We guarantee our prices up until the day the order ships. If the price drops at anytime before it ships you can email us and we will adjust the price. If the price raises you get the price when you paid. :)

Thanks for the quick reply, but that didnt answer my original question, do prices usually go up after pre-order phase ends?
i really really realllly want this notebook, but i dont want to pre-order coz i'll be in the US in feb hopefully, and was thinking of buying it then instead of getting it shipped to India and having to deal with Customs

    Edit:
Ok, thanks for quick reply again..

^^As others have stated prices usually do not go up, overtime they usually go down. Hope that helps better answer your question. Only thing to be concerned over is availability. Availability changes frequently and based on what we see now this is going to be a very popular notebook in high demand.

I just saw the prices over at powernotebooks.com, its cheaper than both Gentech and Xotic..
    http://www.powernotebooks.com/configure.php?special=694

The base price as well as all the upgrades are cheaper..
how is powernotebooks.com as a reseller btw?
    Edit:
just saw XoticPC page again, i'm not too sure but i think they dropped their upgrade prices, 820QM was for 595, now is for 494
IC diamond on both cpu and gpu was for 49, now is for 40
again not too sure if its a drop or i was reading th prices wrong earlier..

Mmmmmm.... Opposite for me.. Xotic pc was $2.00 cheaper (LOL) after i included the upgraded IC Diamond cpu/gpu thermal paste offered from both companies. Powerbooks price includes a cash discount, once i took that out of the equasion Powerbooks price went up, but xotic pc was still cheaper. I know.. $2.00 hahaha.. That won't matter.

*I'm definantly going to pre-order from someone soon... Just waiting to see if a better deal pop

Just different model lines. The G models are Republic of Gamer models, tend to be flashier with better specs, the N//M models are more like higher-end entertainment with mid-range specs. The K series would be lower-end entertainment and etc.

Not for nothing guys, but this is already an awesome deal from Xotic and Gentech. The margins are probably razor thin as it is, so I don't see a group buy discount working here. I would really expect to pay over 2 grand for the specs this thing is shipping with. I also think it would be better to order from gentech or xotic over that other site linked here just based on the fact that both companies actively participate on the forums and are involved with their users. Is it really worth saving 2 bucks or whatever for a company that isn't so closely involved with it's customer? I will be pre-ordering from Xotic asap.

    Ok guys!

Here is the deal!!! I have recently been in touch with Justin from Xotic PC.. He is willing to give us forum members a special "group" pre-purchase price on the G73JH-A1.. This is good news to all that are planning on ordering one but are holding off for a better deal.. Now, to make this work we first need to establish a list of all forum members that seriuosly want to purchase a G73JH-A1 at a Special Discounted Price from Xotic PC. The only way we are going to get this Special Group Pricing from Exotic PC, is only if we have a group! With that said.. If you really want a G73JH-A1 at a really good price.. This is the time to get one!

I will go first, please copy & paste my username/list to your post adding your username to it. This will assure that we maintain proper order.

As this list grows to a point where it qualifies for the Special Discounted Group Price further information will be obtained. At this time i do not know the Special Discounted Price. The group list needs to be established first. Thank you. :)
