eventhough my acer has a swapable gpu its the first and alst acer I bought. Basicly I was just lucky this laptop still lives after more than 2 years of use (especialy with my overheating nvidia). My next laptop will be asus because they offer quality, unless kobalt/cleco will come up with a nice design (asus doesn't give 0 dead pixel waranty, kobalt/clevo does...).
@ scook
Thx for explaning, we'll just have to wait for the actual tests to see how hot it will be. -
the 1.6ghz i7 is more powerful than the C2Quad 2ghz. and its more powerful in dual threaded apps @ 2.4ghz than a 2.9ghz Core 2 Duo
-
for the base g73 that future owners have pre-ordered, what has the "final" price been coming up as...16xx + tax? (how much) + free shipping?
-
if you order in the US and from a reseller in a different state there is no tax.

Where are you wontonjon?
-
was perusing your website - what is the "military discount?" -
I have ordered there for my own machine and have had every question answered.
As far as guides for this machine ?
As long as Donald approves there will be no lacking for the "how to guides". The M17x Owners can attest to that -
on an offnote as i've continued my quest of laptops....this may be a stupid question, but it seems the alienware M15 is comparable to the ASUS G51 series laptops...but there is a big price disparity...
i haven't checked comparability with the M17s and the G73s - but i'm assuming i will find a similar price disparity???
is there a reason for this??? (or simply branding)... -
@wontonjon
I think the m15x is more expensive because of the brandname (the current G series are also more badly cooled so this aint exactly the same durability level that alienware provides).
The g73 will also be cheaper than the m17x not only because of that, but also because that asus will only offer 1 gpu, while the 'real' m17x alienwares have 2 gpu's (even the m17x with 1 gpu is more expensive, besides...the m17x is made for sli/crossfire anyway so that upgrade puts its price cathegory in a much higher level) -
Plus the design and lights. Then add the fact it's a alieNware and it fits dual cards -
thanks to all for the continued schooling - crash course in laptop lingo...

Anyone in Australia who wants a G73JH but doesnt want to order from the US (for whatever reason) then you can get one for $2600 from http://www.logicalblueone.com.au/store/223-g73jh-a1.html I know i'll be ordering mine from Gentech because even after shipping and customs charges it will be around $2200
-
In that regards australia is a retarded country, for the rest it's still the land of plenty... -
-
Asus G51 cost 1600 pound here (3000$~) and guess what? the LCD is not even fullHD it's 1360x768 screen.....................
you can pretty much go on vacation to the USA for 3 days buy your laptop then return home and you will end up with few $ left and a laptop with freaking fullHD screen lol, UK prices are so stupid -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Shipping is usually by either UPS, FedEx or the US Postal Service...no need to use and intermediate company like shipto.
-
A retailer here in Australia was was told from Asus that he can expect to get the G73JH in early February
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
That is the current expectation for the US as well.
The press quotes of early Q2 are just not accurate. -
That is the best news ive heard all day. The prediction of Q2 was to depressing
-
Btw, what are you going to do with full HD screen on a gaming rig? Even the newest gpu's can hardly play at that resolution witouth making considerable drops in the fps. For gaming a full hd screen is therefore unessecary and will make the price a lot higher, if your merely looking for a multimedia laptop to watch blu ray movies behind your laptop and can accept weaker graphics, sony is the way to, their screens are superb. -
-
-
Hey I just checked xotic the other day and with out the bluray the g73 was coming in at $1498, but now its $1547, even though they lowered the price from $1645 to $1623.91. What gives? -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
As for pricing, you are confusing the regular price and the cash discounted price, plus there have been some price adjustments. -

No im saying the cash discounted price has gone from $1498 to $1547.32 (with out bluray) The cash discount is still at 3% so maybe the 1498 was a website mis-calculation or something?? -

"...plus there have been some price adjustments."

the the "reduction" from -99 to -79 is actually an increase since its travelling up the number line.. -

awesome solution for people who game on big screens with their notebooks, but dont wanna buy an expensive notebook..
Also, if you read they were able to run Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X. spanning across three 20-inch monitors (1600x900 each) for a total resolution of 4800x900, easily with a mobility 5870
and here:
http://www.fudzilla.com/content/view/17160/1/
they were running DiRT 2 in DirectX 11 @ 4800x900 and to quote "graphics quality was impressive to say the least"
speaks volumes about the power of this card...
here's a screen partially showing graphics setting page of the dirt 2 menu. i haven't played it so can some one see it and post at what settings are they runnin it at

we just don't know why must purchase Gx series at U.S

Thanks ASUS. -

Hi all! I've been after a new laptop for ages and after following this thread closely I'm pretty sure I want the G73. Thanks to everyone for supplying the info it's proving really helpful. If only I lived in the US I would have sealed the deal but unfortunately I'm based in the UK, an thats where it all goes up. From what I've read the prices over here are more much for less?
Are you tempted to purchase from a US based reseller such as Gentech?
Finally -with the addition of a plug adapter- would a US laptop be fully useable in the UK? I.e. Would it play UK dvds fine etc.? (This could be a daft question)
Thanks!! -
Justin - Any ETA on when you will be accepting payment from the group buy people to lock in their pre-orders?

I was looking to get back into PC gaming having been playing xbox for the last several years.
My last notebook, or pc for that matter, capable of any sort of real gaming was the acer Ferrari with a x700.
The last few years I've been using a thinkpad.
Anyone know if theres a password program from Asus or a good one thats compariable to thie thinkpad one? I've got so used to being able to store passwords from just about everything in one nice program that auto inserts username./password weather it be a website or outlook etc.
This Asus machine looks awesome. Everytime I start adding up the numbers to build a gaming pc I start getting very close to the price of this lapatop at which point I quit (and that's using wholesale numbers too!)
I remeber when my Acer Ferrari retailed for about $2,600 (and wholesaled for $1,900) and was about best performance to dollar ratio and still was only a middle of the road machine at best for gaming.
Great thread! It took me the longest time to read through it!
This new feature in DX11, tessellation, is it used much in games or is it mainly a benchmark/marketing gimick?
I'm not sure if its me, but have laptops started to become the same price as desktops?
I see the Alienware 15 laptop is about the same price and similar specs to the "entry" level alienware desktop. -

I've been lurking and reading for the past few weeks, sifting through all the great information to be found here in my search for a new notebook.
I was almost ready to pull the trigger on the Sager NP8760, but the G73JH has piqued my interest. I am somewhat worried about heat buildup however; the NP8760 seems to have no problems with this.
Does anyone know why ASUS has not released any G73JH's to be reviewed? This seems odd, considering a possible release in less than a month.
Many thanks to all who have posted here. It has really helped me move closer to making a decision (or putting me squarely straddling the fence!). -
@ picea
I wouldn't worry to much about the heat in the new asus g73jh, it has more than 1 vent according to the pictures, in contrast of the current hot G series. Although I do suggest to wait for the review before desiding to buy it, you never know what else might have gone wrong. Afterall, its all new technology, in a total new designed case, this seems a great opportunity for unexpectancies. -
I don't know if this question has been asked, but will BestBuy release a stripped own version of this laptop by any chance?
-
But a lower spec CPU or Graphics card would kill the appeal and make this beast .... a whale -
I just want to reiterate what a few others have said that Powernotebooks.com have been fast /professional and very informative. I ordered from them and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.
