Naw, I am not worried...... we are taking an early display model here, and besides, if it is the same issue, there was a fix. (Hmmmm, seems like something to do with a pwr mgmt setting)

 

well the funny thing is the hwmoniter only shows 4 cores meaning hyperthreading is disabled. And now the cpu is only at 70 percent.

hopefully it won't release like that...

 

LOL! I refuse to jump to conclusions, based on what is happening at CES right now.

 

It is pretty silly to worry about a single pre-production laptop on display. Especially since there are many variables we do not yet know.

I am still planning on pre-ordering this the moment my money is available.

iata scores are just the beginning.

that's maybe why the vantage score is so low on the cpu.

asus won't do that to us. I don't believe. If I have to play devil's advocates, I would say they may diabled hyperthreading.

btw i'm not being negative in anyway just putting what I see. I also pre-ordered.

 

I would bet many others beside iaTa, has been tinkering with that lone, one and only, G73JH.

 

Mine shows 4 cores on HWMonitor, but it does show 8 cores on windows performance task manager.

 

only 4 cores show in HWmontior. So that is not true about hyper-threading being disabled

 

I don't see how you get that from HWMonitor, as the i7 920m doesn't show it:

So what is the current issue? Low CPU score?

Maybe the guys had the machine on Entertainment mode or somply limited the CPU usage to 80% or something.

I thought the sager np9280 had 8 cores show on there unit. Maybe I am mistaking.

oh n btw guys, does anyone know Asus's return policy?, coz i wanna make sure i could get a full money back if the G73Jh is not good as it advertised, coz there r no reviews yet

 

I know they have a 30 day Zero Bright pixel policy which I think is VERY nice.

 

The return policy is dictated by the reseller you buy the laptop from. You wouldn't be dealing with ASUS directly unless it became a warranty issue type of return. Hope this helps.

Most resellers have a 15 day no questions askded policy for a 100% refund minus shipping. Some have a 30 day depending on who you order from.

 

You certainly can't go wrong by going with either of those two resellers. I personally have a good impression of both for sure.

 

How is your M17x ?

Don't know if anyone else is thinking what I'm thinking but I just e-mailed both gentech and xotic about reducing the specs to 6gb ram and 500GB HD. Based on their current pricing, I would estimate it to be around ~$1350-$1400. Personally, I don't see the need for the extra RAM and HD. I'll let you know what response I get.

 

The G73JH-A1 model will received by the resellers, as you see the base model spec'ed on their pre-order page. Seems to me you would be asking they short-change themselves, just to accomodate you. I am already surprised they are doing downgrades on the BD-Rom. It's like you are asking them to eat those HDD's and mem sticks...... and what are they going to do with the surplus..... I guess an eBay sale, eh?

Yeah, let us know their response..... this will be interesting.

 

I feel the same way. 8GB is unnecessary for any gaming machine, desktop or mobile. Even 6GB is really too much.

 

As I'm not 100% sure what the memory configuration is (2x4gb or 4x2gb) they could save the 4gb modules for upgrade on other computers that customers buy, same for the HD's. That's my line of thinking. I'm not asking them to "short change" themselves. I'm just looking for a laptop that fits my needs. As for the price, it's a guess. I'm mot a reseller so I wouldn't know what they would charge. That's why I'm asking the resellers if this is even possible. Even if they can't accommodate me, I'm hoping others who had this question will be helped.

Regardless, you could possibly sell off the extra parts yourself if you are inclined. I guess I'm just lazy.

Thanks for the clarification. Now I'm pretty sure that this won't be much savings now since I was basing my calculations on a 2x4gb set up...we'll see.

 

Sell the parts yourself after receiving the machine. You'd probably save more money that way since the reseller purchase price for parts is lower than retail so you'd get less back.

Wow... so I am just about ready to pull the trigger and pre-order one of these. At the moment my only questions is if I should order from XoticPC or Powernotebooks as I have never dealt with any of these high end notebook retailers. From what I have read I don't think I could go 'wrong' with either of them. Anyone have any reasons why I should look at one over the other? I value the company and their service more then a small price difference.

 

They both are great resellers and have great service.
even though I never dealt with them I've been hearing good things about them and no bad things whatsoever.

 

Flip a coin. XPC and PNB have been serving happy customers for years.

and just FYI to everyone, I just received a PM saying its now against the rules to promote any particular reseller..

Screw the rules. It doesn't change the fact that those resellers are top quality. I stand by people that know how to do their job right.
