The Cooling in the W90 was pretty fantastic overall... The GPUs got a little toasty but they were covered entirely in copper unlike so many machines that have the bare minimum .... CPU cool was beyond amazing...
Clevo has some of the best i have seen from a design standpoint and when you open up the back it looks like a copper mine inside...
As long as your wearing that big hat of yours yes i know i will be laughing....

It looks like no one paid attention to the pictures in the Official thread You can clearly see that the intake of the air is from the upper front part of the laptop, so putting it on your lap will not do much harm.

Well it is ether the sample they have there a bit different or their information is misleading, or could the intake mesh be under the keyboard?
-
How about a "high-five"?

Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
The newer Macbooks have something similar to that, but look how "cool" they are.

I agree, it can be done, I believe that it will be efficient. The previous generation (like the one I owe) G50VT also did not have a large intake mesh directly under the fan and it was taking the air in from multiple places on the bottom of the laptop, and it was still doing a decent job.

From 2:35 onwards he picks up the laptop. There looks like a sizeable intake vent on the underside towards the front, offset to left hand side. It fits in with the diagram suggesting air pulled in from the front, so I assume thats what it is. -

here is the video of the bottom where we can see two small intakes on left and rigt sides

Are they so small they are not visible? lol

Also, having a gaming laptop for other uses, such as school work in libraries, the office, and any other quite setting is desirable for the customer and the company.
Producing a quiet laptop (or a laptop than can be quiet... perhaps through some sort of silent mode) widens the market segment for the laptop. Win for the customer and win for computer company.
The two things holding me back from getting an Alienware are the aesthetics (alien head on the front) and the horrid stories I hear about Dell's customer service. As a third thing I hope they fixed the problematic touch pad on current units.
I'm looking forward to the first hands-on reviews of the G73 though.

We have been told this is a speaker....
To be honest even if that was an air intake I wouldn't think that would be sufficient. -
Any news about the screen quality compared to dell? wht can we expect?
-
Lol i was just going to say that...
Even though its clearly marked Subwoofer above that grill if that were there idea of cooling the whole machine it just would not work ... -
So here's hoping it a pre-production model or we're just missing something.
-
-
I believe we are missing something myself...

The screen should be the same one they are using in the 1920x1080 G72 and its supposed to be pretty nice .. Good viewing angles etc.. Not the best but very far from the worst....
Its the same Panel that is being used in the 17.3 inch Clevo from what i was told...
-
oh ok, since clevos w860cus 15.6 inch screens are amazing. ur sure abt that they r using the same as in clevos w870cus?
-
-
....
Now that could all change come shipping time but currently the G72 is using that panel... -
Some speculation perhaps, but based on the rather low total P score of 7200~ (which was made at 1366 x 768), and the fact they have kept the actual GPU score a secret, I think Asus has already underclocked the 5870.
Desktop 5750: 7033 GPU score (p8512 with 3.75ghz i7)
Desktop 5770: 8705 GPU score (p10311 with 3.75ghz i7)
Desktop 5750: 720 shaders, 700mhz core, 1150mhz memory
Desktop 5770: 800 shaders, 850mhz core, 1200mhz memory
Mobility 5870: 800 shaders, 700mhz core, 1000mhz memory
Keep in mind, the GPU has a much greater impact on the total P score than the CPU. Remember, we're talking about single 128 bit GDDR5 cards, not gargantuan Sli setups with heaps of memory bandwith. -
From the GpuZ(?) that iAta ran at CES, it was clocked at 700mhz core, so that seems about right. If the cooling system is decent, I believe we will be able to clock it to 5770 speeds very easily. -
I have a question does making the primary HDD to an SDD really worth it?,

I'm thinking of switching my primary to an SSD, as well. Hm, that plus, shipping plus duty in Australia...My dad's going to be pleased.

I really enjoyed playing with this baby at CES both in the AMD room and the Asus booth. Like I said it is very nice but M17x owners might find the build quality is not the ultimate, but it is very good. Here are some recent pics...

It looks very cool. Closed looks more alien than an Alienware; especially the back. It looks like a spaceship, lol. I like it.
But how is it supposed to draw the air? Did you guys settle this already?
PS. Like the backpack. Very clean. -
This one isn't bad though. I hope Asus sticks to the clean aesthetics, Anyone else find the space (due to the sloping front) between the screen and the keyboard disconcerting? -
