Based off of the recent pictures we are still left to believe air is taken in via the grill in the middle of the underside.
Really wish they opened it up something like this:

Thanks for the Pics Hemi good stuff... I really like the sloped design ...
-
if they sell spare backpanels for this model at the asus estore I fully plan on doing a mockup of the AW middle panel
-
So I guess no more fire-ware, e-SATA and IR...sad...
-
You could probably sell them here.
-
Am I the only one who noticed the little panel looking flap thing on the back of the laptop. what is back there?
and also, I noticed they have a new ROG backpack and mouse. I like the new backpack but is the mouse still a razer because it does look a bit different. for a second I thought it was the Imperator or the Orochi (which would be awsome) but does anyone know for sure what type of mouse this is going to be? -

Holy large image batman!
Ok, something is not right here... Ken from Gentech contacted Asus and confirmed that the laptop supports surround sound via SPDIF. I only see 2 mini-jacked headphone style ports. One for headphones, the other for mic.
Either there is a lot of false and conflicting information flying around, or those are not pictures of the final shipping unit... -

thank you very much! i'm very appreciated
-
Well it's definitely a looker.
Still the size of the exhaust compared to the size of what is perceived to be the intake is laughable. -
Are you talking about that yellow backpack?
Personnaly I prefer this black backpack way more than the previous ugly green backpack and the yellow one draws way too much attention.
The new mouse also looks very solid, like a rock ^^ It looks cheaper compared to those blue razer copperheads they used to give, but still...free goodies = thumbs up
-
well i don't see anything looking like air intake..
-
While that design may look nice, and it does.. In reality, it would let alot of dust and other objects into the motherboard.. It would also be hard to control the cooling temperature as air would be coming in from all over.
-
Well all I see are those slits on the bottom.
-
..which could be vents for memory or mother
anyway they are too small -
New to the forum and first time posting.
I had to think about this purchase but ultimately declined to pre-order in favor of a Qosmio 505-875. Being the owner of 2 previous laptops (RIP) whos high end graphics cards melted down, the deciding factor for me was HEAT. There is an awful lot of stuff crammed into a tight space. How it occurs that these manufacturers can't adequately ventilate the internal components is beyond me. The reports of problems concerning the the GTX 260M melting down in ASUS laptops are far from rumor. From the looks of it, heat will inevitably be an issue in these too. You do get what you pay for and one way to cut costs is to spend less on overall design. I'd be very interested to see how many of these make it to the 2 year old mark without at least one heat related issue. -
I am still hovering over ordering one of these... at the moment my debate is if I should go i7-920XM Extreme with no SSD and 4G of RAM or go i7-820QM and get the SSD and 8G of RAM.
So is the i7-920XM Extreme -really- worth the cost? From what I have found so far it doesn't seem like it but I would be interested in any other data points. -
OH man, that one is too funny.

Ok, The NEW G73JH photos have been posted here for easy reference!
Thanks babyhemi!

No question. Go SSD and the 820qm!

Those slots are the intakes. Compared to the previous G series notebooks, they are actually larger and aren't scattered across multiple points on the notebook underside; airflow is all drawn from the center area. I've already covered this a few pages back. This time, it's more of a matter of how close the ceiling of the backpanel is from the fan housing. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=5720631&postcount=1175 -
How about those Nvidia chips that melted in Dell, Sony and HP laptops?
-
It could be like my g51vx where the headphone jack doubles as a SPDIF port.
Great pic's! I really like the Matte finish this time around. As for the vents it might be good that they are located on that small panel in the center. A modder could possibly buy a new panel and add more vents without voiding the warranty.
It is strange however that my hot g51vx has 7 vent-hole area's underneath compared to only 3 on this new cooling solution. Who knows maybe it works just fine. In the picture posted previously of the vent diagrams at CES it looked as if air is also taken from underneath the fans in the back (not certain but it looked that way).
Looking at the pics again I don't see any holes near the fans *shrugs. We need real tests. Hurry up g73jh! -
so do you mean that the pic which was shown on ces with airflow is not true and air is going from center to back?
lol whats funny? -

How can it possibly be to punch a few holes in the underbelly of a laptop.....
This notebook is just plain weird. It's going to be Benchmark galore when this is finally released.
I'm pretty sure ASUS will pull it off; I mean, I'm not an expect but ensuring good cooling seems one of the most rudimentary problems one should address when designing a laptop; alongside with power issues, that is.
The vents really are pathetic. But if ASUS does pull it off, and notebook stays cool under the stress that'd be a job really well done. Nice smooth aesthetics and it'll hopefully run really quiet. Fingers crossed.
P.S. On another note; I've been reading again and again on this thread that the 260m overheated in the g51jh, thus resulting in the BSOD issues. This isn't confirmed right? It's just been coming up over and over again..... -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Correct. Airflow is taken from the center and exhausted through the rear, not from the front to the rear.
The grill that everyone sees in the picture above is the amplifier (subwoofer). -
Which is really weird. The official slide from CES shows cool air coming in from the front, not the middle. Oh well, we will know for sure in about a month. A MONTH!? Can you imagine the amount of speculation and additional pages to this thread before we even get to that point! haha
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
What's there to speculate about? Airflow is as how I explained it in my previous post, period. Asus did some kind of last minute change, and that's all there is to it. They probably just forgot to update their slideshow at their unveiling. Cooling will be improved compared to the previous 17 inch G series notebook as Asus has produced a cooling design similar to my Clevo W870CU, albeit different intake placements. What you guys should be more concerned about is the BSOD that let all hell loose at CES.
-
yeah it calls "bubwoofer"=))
-
Hmm, let's see. GPU benchmarks, System temps, ports that are or are not included etc...
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Yes, it's a new product exclusively developed by Asus. It adds more "bub" to your sound system. -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Good. You can think about that during the long month and a half wait for it's release. We already know it's going to be relatively cool and the card is going to perform better than the current G92b. All the ports can be found in the product brochure. -
Oh, what you said sounded like a dirty joke, I'm sure you didn't intend for it which makes it funnier to me. It's just my weird sense of humor.
-
Hey, you have to remind yourself who you're talking to. This thread is full of enthusiasts that LOVE to talk/speculate about the new stuff that comes out. Plus everyone is entitled to their questions and opinions.
-
Dude, you are so stoic and literal! I was just saying that people will continue to "dish" about this laptop all the way up to it's release! I bet you never crack a smile!

Pretty much, yes.
-
And I always thought the Russians were famous for their hubris and Vodka, not their sense of humor! haha
-
as a russian i must say this is a stereotype and is not true, but it makes me laugh))
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
As a pseudo-Russian, I'd like to concur.
-
Which part is the sterotype, the hubris or the Vodka?!
-
I'm half russian, the russian part of my family gets better humor with every vodka bottle they open, then after a few bottles the humor becomes lame...something like a Gauss-curve (starting bad, gettin better, then getting bad again).
With the belgian side of my family the humor gets worse from the very start
Edit: about the vodka stereotype. Its a fact russians have the biggest percentage of alcoholics in the world. -

This is the best large pic I have of the bottom...

russians never been hubris lol usa and part of europe hate russia thats why not all about us is true. just come to friendly russia and u'll see=))
vodka is the same product like gin or whiskey so i dunno why this is the point of laughing or proud or smth else=))
not so much as in other countries. its a mind speculation i guess)) -
