Neither, Already confirmed G51Jx using HM55 Express Chipset not PM55 because the memory slot supported, so G73JH should be HM55 chipset as well but not confirmed.

I have seen these group-buy attempts before..... heck, not so long along it was suggested and attempted in the Dell/AW M17x thread..... BIG belly flop! I personally have never seen it work here..... but that's not to say it hasn't, or couldn't.
This all began with:
Anyhow, here is my observation in a nut-shell. Have you noticed that this entire concept of group-savings, IS DRAWING MOST TO ONE PARTICULAR SOURCE, even though some were commital to another! Sorry, but I am not buying into it, and that's not how I will choose to make my G73JH purchase..... but that's me.
IF it works for you guys, there is real savings, and everyone is happy, then GREAT! But if it doesn't, and all that business still goes in one direction, my thoughts will be this; 'MASTERFUL MANIPULATION, SUPREMELY EXECUTED'! But again, that's just me.
Anyhow, we shall see!

Haha! Striker, you are such a conspiracy theorist! I had actually been looking at Xotic because one of their guys on live chat was very helpful to me when I was looking at machines. The group buy thing was just a bonus. The reason the previous group buy you listed would never have worked was because it was DELL! There is no way that conglomerate is going to care about a measly 10-30 users in some forum. Xotix or Gentech would care because they frequent here and are involved with this forum, but that's just my opinion! Believe me, there is nothing sinister as far as I can tell going on. I just thought that it would be a bonus since someone had already brought it up!
I do see what you mean about the logistics of it though. It's going to have to be "xxx percent" off since everyone wants a different config. To be fair, I am new here but it does influence my opinion towards these companies when I see them posting on the very forums we come to to discuss the machines. I will not buy at ZipZOom or newegg as long as one of these guys have what I am looking for. From what I can tell, all 3 companies that post here seem to have great reps on reseller ratings! -

Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy. My first post here!!!!
I've read pretty much every post here and that almost completely destroyed any doubts about the specs of the laptop ( I mean, how could you have any). Really, it is an absolute beast for a laptop with a 256bit ATi....
I dodged a huge bullet about a month ago when I nearly, so very nearly ordered the g51J and ended up not going ahead with it because I wasn't sure where to get it delivered because I was heading back home from university...Lol...A piece of luck I will always be thankful for...
I have a G1Sn-B1 right now...pretty old school...lol...But I love ASUS and I really really want the G53jh and I am so tempted to just pre-order the thing....
Heck, I nearly ordered the G51Jx, because I'm not the biggest fan of 17 inch models but then I saw a link to this thread a few days ago and boy....Hauling 17 inches through airports a few times every year seems a trivial sacrifice considering the buck I'm going to save and the bang I'm going to get...
My only problem is whether GenTech would ship it all the way to Sri Lanka....
And the Xotic 'group buy' discount seems interesting but I'll share Striker's prudence and not give in, mostly because my dad's done business with GenTech before... and free AS5? That's always cool and welcomed...Although I might be forced into Xotic if Gentech does not deliver... -
The G73JH-A1 Special Discounted Group buy through Xotic PC is off to a great start!
Once the list hits a solid dozen units I will be making a new thread for it and contact Justin for further information.
At this time I do not know how many members we need on board to make this work for Justin. As soon as I find this out I will inform the group. Once that number is reached a shut off date to get in will be established.

Count me into the group buy, however, with the stipulation that I can send my money to xoticpc directly and being able to get the discount be notifying them that I am a part of the group buy. I'm not giving my money to some random person online without a business reputation to save a few dimes, no matter what their post count or reputation in this forum is.

Perhaps the group buy lists should be spun off into a thread of its own, no? All that competition (even friendly) could get ugly.

Ok, your in!
All payments will be going directly to Xotic PC, or to another willing company if for some reason we cannot come to an agreement. I know some will want to pay by credit card, some will use paypal etc. So all payments will go direct to the seller only.

So I dare to be 10, I would like a subtraction of the second Hard Drive and in price as well. I have an SSD I want to stick in there and I just don't have a need for a second 500GB RPM drive. Also like someone mentioned earlier going to 4GB from 8GB would be great because latter I would like to add 1333mhz myself.

Also, don't be put off from Xotic by forum chatter(if that's your reason), they're just personal opinions, you can check reseller ratings and reviews for both and decide.
In my opinion Xotic is also a reliable and good reseller, i have a couple of friends here in India who have ordered Sager machines from Xotic as well as Gentech(although not directly to India, all of them were routed through New york), both resellers had provided good service. Again, this is just my opinion. -
I have had discussions with both recently and both seem to be on point and have their own nice personal touches.
I think you are fine with either Gentech or XOTIC. -
Ok your #10... but we are not looking to make this difficult.. We are working with what is available for option choices on the website to keep this as simple as possible for everyone.. So if the option is there to drop something you can do it.. As always the seller will have the final word.

I'm buying either way, even if this group discount thing doesn't work. But I'm completely interested in seeing what kind of a discount we can get.
-
Count me in..I make it to No.11 I guess, but there are some choices that Im looking for which is not on the website...I'll speak to Justin and see if he cld accomodate this in the group...that makes me more of a tentative candidate now..Im getting one for sure..its either with the group or else by myself.

Doesn't hurt to ask, although it would be great as I already have the SSD. In the end some persons laptop is going to be a different configuration regardless, that's a given.

Count me in... looking to get one anyways, would like to see what's available as a group. Thanks!

Ok, great.. You guys are in! I will add a few more spots as the list grows. At some point we'll have to cap it. If for some reason we don't have enough on board to get a really great price then I will open the deal up to other sellers (as suggested by several members).

Ok, corrected! Thanks.
Quick update... Good News everyone!!
Just recieved a PM from Justin at Xotic PC... We need 12+ to 20 to make this happen.. As usual i'm expecting a few drop out.. With that said, and to guarantee everyone that wants this notebook at a Special Discounted Group Price i am capping the list at 20.. Once 20 names are up, again, if any one or two decide to back out for whatever reason.. The the rest of us will still get the Special Discounted Price.
If you want this notebook at great price now is the time to jump in.

I have been on the market for the past 2 months looking for something powerful and not that expensive...say AW...and this is just pretty much GOLD! I will wait for some benchmarks and then pull the trigger, possibly sell my DV7 to cover part of the cost.

Well I just scooped a CES 2010 ticket for $20 so looks like I might be seeing this beast sooner than I thought!
Anyone else going fancy a meet? -

how big is this deal you guys are getting?

This list thing is starting to get ridiculous. :/ As I have previously stated I'm buying this laptop regardless of the discount and so far it seems like a never-ending thing. Heck the amount of saving hasn't even been announced yet.

ok so I just got my RMA approved from newegg.com for a 100% refund of my price for my G51J. so I will be getting back my 1500 bucks for it!! YAY

On the other hand, I feel bad weighing one vendor against another on the forums like this. From what I can tell Power/Xotic/Gentech all seem to be very nice resellers that will do right for their customers.
Chris -
How does the performance of the 5870 compare to the 260M or the 280M (considering all systems have newest drivers)?
-
Basically it'll give 280m SLI a run for its money -
Nobody knows exactly yet, no benchmarks have been released.
-
How easy would it be to swap out one of the hard drives? I know I want to put one SSD in there to install my OS and applications on, but is it easy to access?
Also, should I order it with the $220 80g pre-installed or would it be cheaper to do it myself? -
nobody has seen the case design yet...so nobody knows.
-
access should be as simple as removing the cover and pulling out the old hard drive and sliding in the SSD into its place.
-
-
hardware raid support?
-
Judging by the lack of raid as a customization, I don't think so. I think like the G51J-A1 it has no hardware raid support, but we shall see.
-
HDD access should be very easy. Xotix and Gentech are both offering VERY fair pricing on the Intel 80gb SSD. I bought one 2 weeks ago and struggled to get it for 250 bucks. I also consider it a mandatory upgrade. Once you've used a computer with an SSD O/S-App drive, you will never go back to a magnetic drive.

There is a TON of promise for this system, lets just hope it holds up better than the G51J
