yes, g51jx-3d model uses GTS 360m and also has a 120Hz screen.
    but I think resolution's 1366 x 768.

Well MSI in the Nvidia presentation at CES, the dude(CEO) said Asus,MSI and Clevo were coming out with 3d-vision enabled machines..
Asus had released g51j-3D with gtx260m long time back but refreshed it with the gts360m (G51Jx-3D)
MSI has announced theirs but i dunno specs
Clevo is going to announce their's at CeBit

of the three i'm guessing the clevo will be the most powerful but i doubt any will cary FHD 120hz coz gaming at that res in 3d on a laptop is difficult till mobile fermi comes out(2011 i'm guessing)

iirc, the most powerful nVidia card 280m cant handle 3d-vision because of some double dvi out issue( dont remember correctly) and from what i know the 285m is just higher clocked and still doesnt support 3d-vision
So, unless they announce gtx360m and 380m(destopt 200 series based, not fermi) i doubt we'll see FHD 3d-gaming in a laptop anytime soon..

what would be really cool though, is a eye-infinity notebook with 2 fold out screens :D

The 5870 could be 20% faster than the GTS 360M, give or take a few percentile. I'd prefer the Asus, but give the Toshiba a chance first. At least it's packed, has a 18.4" 1080p display, Blu-Ray, 6GB DDR3, and 64GB SSD+500GB HDD combo. And Toshibas have the best speakers on the market ;)

Toshiba also has an amazing amount of ports. Remember the G73 is very minimalistic when it comes to ports.

Big question is if Toshiba has finally gone to LED backlit screens. Last I heard they were having issues with the CCFLs not illuminating the screen evenly and was particularly bad on the lower resolution panels.

We need to remember that the ASUS G73JH-A1 was not designed to be an all-around laptop.

Like a race car, it was designed for a specific purpose, and that purpose is to be the baddest gamer in the land, at an affordable price.

Like that race car, it doesn't have all the amenities that a street machine would have...it just goes fasssssssssssssst.

I've been deciding to either get this laptop or the AW M15x and I have a question about the asus. I have been researching laptops for a while and i'm wondering about about the gpu. With the M15x having the nvidia 260m, the reviews across the board say that having games play in on the 900p it is smooth. But it struggled if you played it in 1080p, so i'm wondering if the 5870 will have the same issues if playing in 1080p. I know that on notebook check the benchmarks have been released but unforuntely for me, all I really know about those scores is that higher means better. If anyone could provide some info that would be great. Thanks.

    I had a 17x with a 260m GTX and never had a game i could not play @ 1200P.

I am wondering where you read this from ....

I also have a M15x here with the GTX 260m and it has NO issues with even GTA 4 ;)

But the 5870 will be faster then the M15x with a GTX 260m so i recommend a Asus g73 over the M15x just because its much better for the money.

There are resellers here on the forum you can speak to like Paladin44 from powernotebooks.com or Ken.Lee from Gentech PC :)

    Thanks for replies

I know about g51jx-3d with 360m, but it has only 1366x768 screen. Well i suppose this screen would be enough for 360m, but id like full HD one. I guess I will just have to take a laptop which would be able to handle games in full HD for now, and in future, laptop which can handle 3D games in full HD :)

When is CeBit starting exactly (beginning of march?) Im gonna wait for it and some new models arriving with it, and then will make my decision

I think they are both good on paper and the Tosh was def worth my evaluation as I loved the 12cell battery (really worth evaluation if you need an ExpressCard slot, but I didn't). What did you pay for it and do you need an ExpressCard slot (I'll keep in mind your primary is a 64G SSD)? Does $ matter?
I have no basis to advise which screen may be better, but one clearly is bigger.

I paid around 1771 $ after the taxes. I got some 250$ emp discount.

so costwise both the laptops are on same price, but Asus has LED screen and high end GPU. I think Asus screen will be superior. but thought to have some suggestion. does not matter to me if laptop has express card slot. but good to have all the extra features.

Does an exprescard slot have any use, when considering gaming purposes?
Since those vidocks are using an exprescardslot, but still offer weak gpu options compared to the one the g73jh offers. On the other hand, who knows what vidock might release after a year or two.
Anyway, If it makes the laptop cheaper by 50-100€, then they can keep that slot.

I've been waiting for a nice laptop to appear on the market, IMO this one is worth the wait most definitely!

Quick question on another Asus lappy, my wife is looking at a K701C-A1. Anyone here anything about these? She is a net surfer and will run a few med school programs

Have you considered the N-series, such as:

    http://1toppc.com/Merchant2/merchan...e=N71JQ-A1&Category_Code=AS17&Product_Count=6

Perhaps splurge just a little more..... newer tech, very elegant, and Valentines Day (perhaps we will be receiving our G73's in this time frame) is just around the corner.

Also, will a large 17" model be uncomfortable for her? If possibly so, a lesser expensive N-series 16" equivalent is available:

    http://1toppc.com/Merchant2/merchan...e=N61JQ-A1&Category_Code=AS15&Product_Count=7

    <param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/VVA2kDIZkrQ&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/VVA2kDIZkrQ&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width='560' height="340"></embed></object>

Just a little more food for thought......

    :)

Have any of you Gents, considered how selfish we are going to look, if our G73's arrive, on or about Valentines Day?

Haha! As long as your getting her something equally as special then why not have a treat too!

For me, this is my gift to myself for valentines hehe
Then again, my partner never was one for romance, but I feel better about it when I dominate him in game ;P

Hahahahaha, indeed take heed, but when I say equally as special, the important part is FOR HER. A special game for you doesnt count! haha

Treat her well enough and you'll have all the time to play you want! (I recommend a spa weekend, she leaves, laptop arrives, everyone is happy!)

Now the only question is....how to keep my man's hands off MY new laptop :p

Yes, I think the N-series w/ATI's 5xxx video, would make a great alternative, for those not primarily focused on gaming..... very nice specs, and a very nice price!

As far as finding these things..... just keep up with the tech, and watch the new entry's offered by the resellers.

Ah now be careful, the flowers may just be the overkill that gets you found out :p

However, you could get it arranged that if there's the overnight stay at the spa, the flowers could be there in her room with a, (and I know this one might be a stretch for some guys :p), romantic card in them.

Most importantly though, make sure your courier delivery is arranged in advance for you! hehe
