Except the cooling in the G71 and G72 wasn't poor, merely adequate.
-
Oh, and I have to point out that I love how the G73JH will be customizable through Xotic PC. That's really cool.
-
Mate, what's the problem? just buy the thing from the US, it will get into hold by customs. They will call you/send you a letter with the duties. YOu call the number on the letter give them your CC and it's on your way.
The only problem I have encountered ($2200 asus from the us) it it takes 2 days to get from the US to Sydney, then 1 week for them to process, then another week for them to send you the letter/invoice, then another day or 2 depending on where you are to receive the lappy.
All in all I saved $1500 by buying from the US.
Oh and when I got the package, USPS, it was just the ASUS box stating laptop such and such.....
Edit; make sure your phone number is on there in big, and don't miss the call. they might call you and then do the duties; saves you 2 weeks waiting -
lol, I meant asked by NBR. They asked me when I did one for my Thinkpad. If you click the link in my sig you can see what I did for the M17x. I more than likely will be doing the same with the G73.
-
Not to sound like anybody's dad (although I'm old enough for some, I'm sure), but being able to get a credit card with a big enough limit to buy a notebook is not at all the same thing as being able to afford one.
-
yet a good way to build some credit if someone doesn't have any.

Order already. =)
Oh, yeah, it's a great saving for us in Australia.
After you get the call from customs don't you have to fill in a declaration form, and a registration form thing for both myself and the company I'm buying the laptop from, and then fax it all over there. It's all there in the Australian customs website unless I'm horribly mistaken....
http://www.customs.gov.au/webdata/resources/files/ImportingGoodsByPostFAQ.pdf
Eitherway though, I'm very well aware on the huge amount I'll be saving so I pulled the trigger weeks ago.
Lol, agonizing though isn't it having to wait the extra weeks while the lucky US customers here get to bench and game to their heart's content. -
Release tomorrow?
The university that I work at allows personal purchases through the bookstore. I called today and requested that they order me the G73JH-A1. The bookstore guy called their supplier (I'm not sure who it is) and the supplier told him it was out of stock but they would have it tomorrow.
It's nothing official, but if this is true it means good news for everyone who pre-ordered!
I got overnight shipping so hopefully I'll have it by Thursday! WOO HOO! -

Just go die.... It gave me jitters for like 2 seconds...then it went away...I hate brad.
-
I know. I don't fully believe it myself, just passing on the info I was given.
-
OH! I'll also post the invoice when he e-mails it to me. Should be today or tomorrow.
-
I would bet they are confused with the G72/71 or one of the older models.
-
I mentioned that to the bookstore guy when he told me and he said the exact model number was on their site.
-
You sir, should probably take a look at this site:
www.p4laptops.com.au
They are the only site that I know of that sell US laptops within Australia, and are one of three Clevo resellers in Australia...
And they do have the G73JH-A1 in stock, it has the wrong picture though, so don't be confused. -
Here's the link to the vendor who said it's available tomorrow: http://www.govconnection.com/IPA/Shop/Product/Search.htm?term=G73JH-A1&DefSort=Y&findin=allproducts
-
I'm confused.

Thank you Shadow but for the better or for the worse I've already preordered. Should probably follow suit and put that in my siggy....
2349 AUD is a very very good though. I'll still be saving about 300AUDs nby ordering from the US but had I had this information before I probably would have gone with this.
EDIT: Thing was I ordered this things weeks ago, before Australian resellers even started listing prices. Hmm....I'd certainly have coughed up the 300 AUD or so extra to get rid of the hassle and wait....Oh well.
-
Another clue that helps support my claim of this being released tomorrow is that Asus changed their laptop page and removed some older models about an hour ago. Take a look.

okay lets compare;
Xotic: $1594.83
P4: $2,404.00 (which includes shipping)
let take the following ballpark for xotic;
- shipping to aus $120
- duties $200 ( ballpark again should be lower)
total Xotic: $1914
difference: $490 again ballpark
For $490 benefit I'll get it from the US, I've been screwed before by australian retailers and it they think people are stupid then this is their lesson. -

Brad, if you're right, I will personally bring to your doorstep a fine 25 year old, Sherry Oak Macallan along with my most sincerest gratitude on Thursday when you get your laptop. And perhaps later, we can run a benchmark together while we down that bottle over a couple of Cuban Romeo and Juliets, which I'll also bring along with me.

If what he says is true.....you never know.....I'll put a lot on the line. Mostly because I'm pretty sure its a bucket load of BS. Which is very unfortunate, but sadly true.

+1 for wine choice

As I said many pages before, I gave a call to a Portuguese reseller and he told me he was going to receive 5 on the 29th January, and still had one available.
I didn't want to buy it back then, because there was no reviews whatsoever.
I'm going to call him tomorrow to see if he still has one, because that notebookcheck preview is enough for me. -

^^ . I also recall a few posts citing a reseller in Netherlands, also with etas earlier than that of the United States. Maybe there is some truth in the matter in your case, because you're in Europe. Keep us updated on that, please. =)
I mean, the date for the United States seems pretty darn fixed; although Brad here seems to be pointing out a discrepancy, that I am very slightly skeptical about. -
Even if they get it people in US won't get it since resellers are saying ETA is Feb 10th.
Patience guys, I know you guys are dying to get this thing.

Is it too late to still sign up for this? And if not, how can I contact badabing? -
Well with Sony releasing their new F series model tomorrow from CES it may be closer to true than we think on a release sooner than feb 10, but never know. would be nice to dream.
-
I don't think that even happened.
-
I'm expecting feb 10, if I get my hopes up I know I'll be disappointed. Might as well just forget about it. lol
-
Just PM him. You need at least 5 posts to PM, and it takes a while for PM privileges to kick in.

Long time reader, first time poster...
Just put my preorder in at NCIX Vancouver
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=111123013
Asus has a large western warehouse here in Richmond that filters down to the west coast of the states.
Oh and I just got a reply from my buddy at ATI Montreal and he say's no eyefinity port on the asus laptops.

I would not get too excited about this. I seriously doubt the U.S. vendor 'GovConnection.com' will be getting an exclusive shipment over other larger U.S. Asus resellers. Seems Gentech, PowerNotebooks, Xotic or others, would know if G73's were arriving in country tomorrow.
Also, I see nothing on the Asus websites supporting your claim. Sorry, but I need a little more to get me excited about this. Am I missing something here?
-

I already PM'ed badabing for him......

Thanks Mike, and welcome to the forum! Also, you can find more G73 info here!
-
Ah just to put into light for the group buy, it did went through, but I turned it down. Not sure if Justin is accepting more though.
-
You turned it down? Why? It'll be cheaper that way right?
-
Do us a favor, handle this in PM.
There's no reason to go down this route again. -
how does this score from notebookcheck compare to the w90?
I know w90 is better in performance but I just want to know if there's a huge difference. -
-=$tR|k3r=- Notebook Virtuoso
The W90 was advertised with a 15k+ 3DMark06, but IIRC, most were initially getting only 11 to 13k+..... and that's if you were lucky enough to have both cards working in X-Fire.
-
hey everyone i've read just about every post here and decided it's time to register
I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with pccanada.com ? they have the g73 for pre-order at a reasonable canadian price with free shipping but i'm having trouble finding any info on the company
thanks for your time -
To those who pre-ordered ASUS G73JH:
Do you normally pay now or only pay when the machines are in stock? What's the usual practice? -
Is it the 10th yet? Who's going to spend the extra $$$ for overnight shipping if it's available?
-
You pay when its ready to ship
-
i bought a abit bh-7 from them YEARS ago
this motherboard supports the first generation pentium 4
so.... 7 years ago?? lol
theyre a great company to order from, they answer questions fast too
some of their prices suck sometimes but their g73 price beats xoticpc shipping to canada
i think im gonna end up backing out on the g73 though
asus is cutting too many corners with their notebooks these days
the w90vp is the only one i ever really liked -
Can you give an example of how they are cutting corners?
-
There's no e-sata and expresscard. that's about it, I don't see anything else that bothers me.
