Wow I can expect quite a few people are going to shed a silent tear when they read that. Now I really hope I make it into the first shipment cause March 2 is a looong ways away.
Now I can bask in the glory of being right in one of my first posts where I postulated that the release date was too close for no confirmations and that most likely it will be delayed

Maybe, you know...the previous old date (Feb 10th and Feb 17th) shipments merged into 1 shipment date. Just to save cost. Who knows!

ATI Confirms Grey Screen Issue, Promises Fix

While AMD has confirmed a bug in the Catalyst drivers that results in crashes, it claims it only affects a "small number" of users.

Company spokesman Dave Erskine has stated that "only a small number of ATI Radeon HD 5800 series and ATI Radeon HD 5700 series cards are exhibiting the behaviour" and promises that " the [Radeon] team is testing a driver hotfix and initial tests indicate that it resolves the issue."

As we have seen with releases going back to the W90 along with the G50/G70 series this unfortunately follows previous trends with past ETA's. :(

is there any information about the size of the shipments? I was planning on being in the third shippment in march but now it seems that the third shipment (if it exists) will come in mid to late march.
Or did they merge shipments 1 and 2 together and the second shipment in march is now equivelent to what we thought would be third shipment?
I would hate to get my laptops past march...

From what Ken said on the other thread (or was it this one) there's still room in the 2nd shipment. Mind you this was before Justin posted the whole 1 week delay for 1st shipment.

I hear ya, the waiting is tough! At the very least, this extra time will give some people some space to view other machines that might come out from other vendors as well. It might also give some people time to get their tax refunds in the bank to order it! :D

wwoods, your chosen path is obvious, by looking at your SIG. So why come to this thread and badger? You aren't going to become another Alienhead troll, are you?

I posted an update about the 'grey screen' issue, because concerns of this were raised earlier in this thread. I was trying to be helpful..... your negativity is not. Are these post of yours here, really necessary wwoods?

Who else would jump if another OEM releases i7 w/5870XF before that time? I'm guessing lots. Asus should not allow the competition to catch up and release 5870s also.

You'd still have to wait though! :) At least with this model, there is a fairly finite amount of time you'd have to wait. It's already been announced, and most of the places you pre-order do not charge you until the item is ready to ship.

I guess what I'm saying is patience is a virtue :D

Spec sheets vary widely on the Asus G73JH-A1. For example both EXcaliberpc and J&R list the model as having the following:
    1 x IEEE 1394 port
    1 x E-SATA
    1 x ExpressCard 54/34 slot
Other resellers such as Xoticpc and Gentech omit these ports. Justin, from Xocticpc, confirmed to me by email that the G73JH-A1 does not have them.

We need those ports, as well as the Raid0 capability, because we are building a poratable video capture station.

What's up with this specification variability? Is it resller customization, or sloppy specmanship?

you can trust the resellers rather than stores like J&R. They probably didn't update it yet.

Check the pictures yourself.....those ports are not there.....both GenTech and Xotic have confirmed no firewire, esata, or expresscard.

Some of my other options if this keeps getting pushed back include:
    Acer 8940G
    Toshiba 805
    Sony F11

The Sony only has 1 HD but other other two have options for 2 HD's I believe....not sure on the raid options as I wasnt planning on using Raid so never really looked.

Or, for a portable video capture system look at the ASUS N71JQ.

    It has:
    1x ExpressCard
    3x USB 2.0
    1x USB 3.0
    1x eSATA
    1x HDMI
    2x Hard Drives

Another great option....as a matter of fact I may look at this instead of waiting what I feel will almost certainly be another push back into March which I'm not willing to wait for.

Would have to drop to a 1600x900 screen and a 5730 but considering I dont play much of anything past WoW might not be much of an issue...current lappie is 1440x900 so still an improvement in resoluton. Would gain the extra ports including a USB 3.0 which would be nice and could afford to upgrade to a full blu-ray writer instead of just a reader or stay with the reader and save some cash.

I agree, the N series is pretty nice. Well designed with the latest technology (blu-ray, USB 3.0 etc). How does the 5830 video card compare to say, a 260M? Sorry abit OT. I guess others may be interested in looking for a different model due to these delays!

so Donald/Justin/Ken, can you guys give us any information whether it's just everything pushed back or would shipment one and shipment two be merged into one (i.e. a larger shipment on 17th Feb to cater for everyone who were originally on shipment 1 & 2)?

    1. Since we never know how many are coming in or how many will be allocated to each reseller there is no way to know if the 2/10 and 2/17 shipments were combined.

    2. Anyone that pre-ordered with the Combo Dual Layer DVD +/-R/RW CD-R/RW Drive originally will get the A2, so the chances are that only those who pre-ordered very early will be affected by the one week delay to 2/17.

People who ordered without BD we can just switch to A2 instead.

That could be however, Asus not very open on talking about the reason for delay. But I was told there is a very big shipment stuck on US custom waiting for inspection, it happens twice a year to Asus.
