Spoke with Justin @ xotic. Anyone pre-ordering the A2 NOW will most likely receive their laptops March 2nd, not Feburary 10th.

Ken said shipment 1 was being held up at the US customs, which means shipment 1 and 2 are going to arrive at the same time (hopefully) on the 17th Feb.

I am already on the 2nd shipment and presumably it won't be affected.

Most resellers that have orders for the A1 with the DVDRW Downgrade will likely contact customers to confirm switching to the A2. If we were to have more A2's (DVDRW Downgrade) then orders for them we would contact customers for the A1 and see if they wanted to switch. That way the early customers are taken care of. :)

I doubt I am considered an early customer, but I do wonder if those people who pre-ordered the A1 downgrade to the A2, since they were early customers, will they receive the blu-ray later on in a separate shipment or would that not even be an option?

A positive to this though, is that everyone who ordered the A1 will be able to see full benchmarks before they receive their A1 since I am sure the A2 owners would love to post their findings.

If you opted for the DVDRW version (A2) that is what you would get. (With no Blu Ray.) You could purchase a Blu Ray upgrade if you wanted and upgrade it to the A1 Version maybe?

    O....K.

Well, here is something interesting (or not), there is a difference in price between the two by a small amount even with blue ray configured on both (or not configured on both.

    Do something! :)
it was fun when there was no information about this laptop whatsoever, but these days? eh, I just want to get the laptop and run the hell outta benchmarks and see how GPU truly performs, and how well the cooling system is developed.
Another week (maybe 2weeks) to go... :(

    M17x is a great machine! =)
You could always sell it, but I'd wait for reviews first. ;)

tarlyn, I'll check out the Acer and the Toshiba. Thanks. I did check out the photos, but thought maybe they weren't the final unit. After my first post I called EXcaliber and talked to a sales person who was dubious about their own specs, too, and suggested we call Asus, which we did. Asus claimed that the G73JH-A1 DOES HAVE an ExpessCard. So, now I know one thing: nobody really knows.

We have an Asus eee netbook, and it's a real gem. As to the G73JH, however, I'm very disappointed. Until the dust settles on this one, I'm going to have to buy something else; it's all too iffy for me, especially for a pre-order.

I was wondering if this called happened recently or if you called a long time ago. hoping it was recent because that means people will get a probably get a surprise expressCard slot in their A1s. :D

another thing: I noticed on the XoticPC site that the mouse is still listed as a Razor, similar to some of the previous RoG laptop mice. Im wondering if Asus gave out any information regarding the mouse and its origins. because from what some people on the forum can tell it seems like the HP Voodoo mouse with the RoG logo on it. (unless of course that is actually a razor mouse in disguise....)
    either way im happy :D.

I just called Asus today -- right after my original post. Sorry, I didn't ask them about the mouse. They also said that it had no firewire or eSata. When the laptops are finally delivered, it will be interesting to see if they actually do have the ExpressCard. If not, I guess I'll have to conclude that the Asus phone folks are unreliable sources of information.

Hey good point. I'll take this shipping delay as a positive thing... it will give me a little more extra time to think about it while others to do some testing/reviews without me losing my spot in pre-order-line (ordered Jan 8th).

Since eSATA is about 5x faster and USB 3.0 is about 10x faster than 400Mb/s firewire, do you really still need it?

The ASUS G73JH-A1 is pure gaming laptop while the ASUS N71JQ-A1 is an excellent multi-media laptop.

I guess you go with what meets your needs better.

A bit hard to tell yet because I haven't seen, or done, any benches with the 5730 in the ASUS N71JQ-A1 but I would expect the GTX 260M to be faster, even though the 5730 specs at 520 Gigaflops vs. 462 for the GTX 260M. All the other specs for the GTX 260M are better and it is a 256bit card.

Well I switched over to the A1, and thanks for all your help Justin!!! I do have a question that I forgot to ask when I emailed you back. Which payment option will I get my laptop fastest and with the discount and free shipping. The paypay/bank wire/check or just use my debit card/credit card? I'm a little confused.

Wait, you switched over to the A1? If as the post you quoted suggests you did this because the A1 was pushed back that seems slightly illogical...

And to my knowledge you need to use a wire transfer or check to be eligible for the 3% cash discount. I'm sure you'll yield better results if you just PM, Justin though.

P.S. On a A1-A2 note, wonder how many people are going to 'downgrade' to the A2 and stick in a BlueRay reader.....Hmm...

I would but I'm not sure how many post I need to pm anyone. I still got all week to call them if I need to. I want the blu-ray, even if I have to wait a few extra week. But I might switch back to the A2 and upgrade to the blu-ray if that's possible.

I just don't want to wait any extra days for the payment to go through, when it's my turn to pay. In other words, I've waited too many weeks already, don't want any more delays.

Post minimum for the PM function to become valid is 5, and once you reach that 5 you should wait about 4-6hrs for the server to refresh itself and recognize it and unlock the feature for you.
