I did take a few, but I didn't post them. I just figured I'd get a ton of abuse for using a hacksaw, no ground strap etc.

I'll dig them up and post them for the lulz when i get a chance. Still going strong, zero issues whatsoever. In fact it's more reliable than my 5870, and runs ARMA 3 great. Temps never reach past 75 degrees. I will pop in a fan later on, but I don't feel there's a need right now.

This thread has been a godsend.

Yes I have! I'm running my g73jh with the "stock 5870m", and with a slight overclock of 800x1200, @1920x1080, and everything on low i get around 35fps.
Remember this is a beta, final results will probably be slightly better.

I've just completed the mod on my G73JH-BST7. Now running the ebay 7970m / enduro off - it went together pretty well but I am having the stuck-at-450mhz problem... can't seem to find the Sosa vbios download link? Can someone please provide a link?

For anyone still monitoring this thread, or any people looking to tackle this upgrade with the ebay 7970M kit from upgradeyourlaptop - I'll save you some time...

Here is a link to a working 7970M (in the G73 of course) VBIOS for the "upgradeyourlaptop" ebay 7970M kit: CLEVO P150HM/P151HM VGA UPGRADE KIT; HD7970M 2GB; MXM 3.0b; with ENDURO DISABLED.

    Working 7970M vbios for G73

Also for anyone interested, here is the heatsink mod I ended up doing with my 7970m. The other solutions in this thread are good, but I figured since I had all these extra materials with this kit, I might as well use some of them.

I used the power section cooler included with the kit sort of like the PrinceBlack mod, but then used the copper GPU plate included with the kit to bridge the power section to the stock main GPU/memory cooler. I did this for two reasons, 1) The heat from the power section will be dissipated out of the notebook with the heat from the GPU/memory and 2) no adhesive or machine screws are needed on the power section heatsink. It's very solid with just the screws that hold the unit to the GPU.

Anyway, I hope this helps someone looking to tackle this mod. Aside from finding the VBIOS, this wasn't a very difficult mod.

I used a whole bunch of heat (propane torch) for the de-soldering and the re-soldering.

Yeah I suppose that is the only option since funnily enough the heatsink has a large thermal capacity, who knew right?

And if you want a have a vbios with 0.975v on 3d clocks
With this voltage I am able to overclock from 850 to 915 and de memo 1250 to 1500
    See ya

    Congrat hoeser!!!
I'd like to make this mod for my G73JH too but I'm still little worried...
Did You bought only this kit and nothing more was needed right? CLEVO P150HM/P151HM VGA UPGRADE KIT; HD7970M 2GB; MXM 3.0b; with ENDURO DISABLED | eBay

I already have some skills from modding my old MSI GX700 Nvidia 8600--->9600 where was necessary to cut a copper cooling pads.

    Thx for any suggestions!

    Hi Hoeser,

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but what material did you use to attach the contact plate to the power and gpu plates, is it just normal solder? Also what were your temps with this cooling mod? And just to confirm, is it thermal pads on everything but the die, and what type did you use artic silver 5, icdiamond7 and which pads?

Also wanted to thank everyone who has contributed to this thread and the 6970 one, you guys are all champs!!!!!!

    Stefan

Solder is the best option for durability and thermal performance.

You guys asking me? lol I'm assuming yes
Sadly, my g73jh w/ 7970 runs my games better then my desktop AMD 1070t (6 core) 8gb ram 6970 lol
BF4 = I run everything max settings @ 1920x1200, temps are cool but I haven't checked them in a while lol. I'll take some screen shots tonight.

I have notice some random reboots when I was playing games on it, I had the laptop put away for a while but I have a feeling its the AC Adapter.

Also notice I can't run the laptop off the battery lol. Screen goes black.

The 7970M is a strong card, that's why it can beat your 6970 since it's pretty close to the 7870 esktop which is in tern close to the 7950.

Wow! It's good to see the G73JH is still alive and well. I gave mine with the 920XM to my little brother. He's asking me about my attempt, and fail. I can't really remember how it failed, but I think I tried to stress it a little too soon. I'm enjoying my NP9370 with dual 7970M's, but the Asus section is much more active than the Sager one.

    Bravo boys.

I would not say it was more active as a whole but maybe more per model.

I think failures are usually not quite getting the vrm cooling right.

As I mention I started getting random reboots or just a plain freeze. Was happening after I fired it up after months of not being used. It did also happen initially when I did the mod but those restarts were due to the fact that I had no insulated the cables on the AC adapter when I cut them. Maybe the cables are making contact again. Occasionally I do see some artifacts, only on facebook though, bot right hand corner, very tiny black scares, but that's all. Going to fire it up tonight.
Thinking of buying a Evo 1tbSamsung and a 1920x1080 screen

It is little bit concerning that you get artifacts. Test With some gaming and check temps to.
And just for fun what best score you get in 3dmarkk1?

It could be some solder has expanded/contracted in storage, you could try baking it if the problem persists as this is likely to help.

I've gotten a hold of a Clevo M7970 card with endure on. I only have the asus with the upgraded psu. Just wondering if anybody has suceeeded in blind flash while the card is in the asus g73jh? Or is this only possible on HM Clevo or sagar laptops?

I would seriously advise getting a card with the vbios already on it as it can be very difficult unless you have the right tools.

    I'm using

    C:\atiflash.exe -p 0 -fs -fp -reboot 7970M.rom

Where does the Atiflash.exe and the ROM have to be, in the USB drive or C Drive?

Ah the os is the usb stick. Make sure atiflash and the bios are just on the drive itself and not in folders and remove the drive letter address so "atiflash.exe -p 0 -fs -fp -reboot 7970M.rom" without the quotes.

Probably a CPU limitation. There is almost a 1ghz difference there. I could overclock the sucker, bring it up to par more or less with your 2860 CPU. I believe there is a program to overclock the cpu in Windows right? Anyone remember what that program was? I'll try overclocking it.

As I understand it has to be 7970m from sager as dell cards have fan on max all the time error. Also you need right vbios to for avoiding problems with core locked in p2 state.

There is already working vbios for 7970m. Its posted in this thread couple times as other versions have problems with core clocking I believe it is only one that works so far.
