You may want to try another flash drive if possible. I had several laying around (cheap freebies - I rarely use them so I never bought one) that could not be formatted as boot devices - either because of the same error you're seeing or the HP utility simply didn't work on them.

I just grabbed a new and relatively cheap 4GB Lexar from the shelf at Target'....worked great.

Well what did they replace? What was wrong with your laptop? I'm wondering what repair introduced this problem to your machine. It would be really helpful to know exactly which part of the laptop causes this problem.

Dangit. I thought there was going to be a revelation about the root cause of keyboard lag. That is about as unhelpful as possible. Oh well. :(

    What adapter?
    What driver?
What are all the exact settings you're using on the adapter? And on the router?

Dang - I don't understand how Asus could release something with so many problems straight out the box...

I just ordered the g73jh and it should be here in a couple days and then I came across this forum!

Is this thing going to be a good laptop if i'm able to get all these fixes done or should I refuse the shipment return it and avoid all of this?

I'm pretty decent with computers but this looks like a LOT of stuff to do and some of it could very well be over my head - is it worth it?

    Thanks!

    @mscrosse
depends of the issue. Software based issues seemd to be fixed almost (GSOD, KB light, sound etc)
I have a HW based issue and it has to go to RMA.

But still i dont regret that i bought it...

So many problems? Dunno if that is true - sure there are some, but what laptop doesn't have issues of some kind?

That said, I LOVE this thing. SPEEDY, solid build, sexy looking and just a joy to use. And, I have an issue with it as well and will doing an RMA. (I could do it myself but I'm chicken) But I'm looking forward to getting it back better than ever and not even considering a change. For the money, I really don't see a deal that is close to it.

ok i followed all the vbios steps and am sucessfully running the laptop..

    few questions.
    1) i see the clock as 405/1000.does it increase to 700/1000 when i am gaming?
    2) When i try to overclock like say 800/1100 ..i GSOD in like 2 min ..(why? is it the same for others?)
3)the fans look like they are making a bit more noise than earlier ..any reason?

I am on bios 211.updated vbios ..and running 10.8 on g73.
appreciate the forum and its users.

    @sam fisher

    1. yes they will.
    2. Probably your GPU just cant handle so high clock. Try lower values on memory because this one is allready fast.
    3. 211 makes more noise in idle + in vBIOS they rised memory voltages (like i understand).

    thank you very much.

for 2) of course this is fast .but thought if i can squeeze out some more FPS while gaming by overclocking it..

i see people using similar clocks ..and i wish they could help me guiding to that ..

trust me, you cant squeeze out anything from memory if u clock it. Better squeeze your gpu. For example, try memory 1050 and leave it like this, gpu put 750 and run some benchmark/game for an hour. If it runs, try a little higer etc. High memory wount give u anything.

If you have a properly TIM'd unit, the 211 BIOS is quiet since you don't get so hot. Fans are dead quiet when your idle temps are in the 40's. :D

    yea, ofc.

a question for you guys. Now when you have repasted gpu and cpu. What are the temps in idle(new vBIOS, 211+ 10.8ccc).
If my one is just standing on tabele(high perf mod) then cpu is 47+ and gpu is 59-62.
    Anyway, no GSOD so far.
Yesterday i had something new....i was watching movie via hdmi to tv, andjust nowhere the NB screen went to classic mode(like you are bencmarking 3d mark or somethin) and gpu was alos totally loaded. Was like this for 10 min maybe and went back to normal....

Haha, being a on the internet is fun! :)

I have the ASUS G73JH and im having some HDMI port isses. Whenever i plug in an HDMI cable, the video is output corectly on the screen, however the audio still comes out of my computer speakers instead of the TV. In the sound control panel, it recognizes output methods as the builtin speakers and the heaphone jack. Is there some kind of driver i have to install to enable HDMI audio out?

50's are very good idle temperatures. I think most people with a good repaste are in the 52C to 58C range at idle depending on ambient. I'm at 56C right now and my office is kind of warm. When the AC is working well around here, mine gets to about 52C. I've never seen it in the forties except immediately when it boots and hasn't warmed up yet.

I'm sure some people idle in the upper forties, but that is very rare.

How are you guys' hinge's holding up? I had it repaired but it's still quite loose, and I'm not sure if it's normal or not. Some of you may remember I was having problems before. I can easily open it with one hand, and opening the hinge doesn't lift the rest of the unit up. There's also some screen play. Is all this normal?

    No one on the hinges?

Also I'm noticing the left side of my keyboard is rattling a bit, along with my keyboard squeaking. Any fixes for this. Would a keyboard replace fix this, or is the notebook warped?

Your keyboard is probably bent (i had to straighten mine out after i did the keyboard lights mod), and i dont think you can get rid of the squeaking (these keyboards are just made cheaper - ive had two and both had occasional spacebar squeaking)...

    Hello everyone!

I ordered the Asus G73JH-RBBX05 Refurbished Notebook PC - Intel Core i7 720QM 1.6GHz, 6GB DDR3, 500GB HDD, DVDRW, 17.3" TFT, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, which I recieved today. Had a heck of a time with this baby the first time around. After reading what seemed like 100's of pages on these forums, my first go left me with nothing but instant freezing. So I restored to factory settings like shown in the Manual downloadable on the asus site. And here's what I did my second time around...

flashed bios to 0211 using ezflash not the bad winflash 2.29 (downloaded 0211 off the asus site under support, copied it on to a flash drive, got into bios by hitting esc at startup and ran ezflash and loaded 0211 from the flashdrive through ezflash)

removed creative - not sure if i'm suppose to remove "sound blaster audigy HD" too..(I read that on one post.. but there's so many) ayway I left this alone (installed)

uninstalled realtek and rebooted, installed realtek and rebooted

    hotfixed - http://go.notebookreview.com/?id=52...015-g73-gsod-fixes-resources.html#post6444967

removed office 2007 - no freezes and installed codecs, java (just checking for freezes...lol) no freezes but continued as planned

removed powergear rebooted and updated to 1.1.37 rebooted - http://go.notebookreview.com/?id=52...015-g73-gsod-fixes-resources.html#post6444967

I then continued further to remove additional bloatware; treadnet, office 2007. Installed programs I use, firefox, antivirus, etc.

ran Windows update, downloaded and installed...rebooted

Ill keep you posted within the next week as I'm sure I will experiece some sort of additional problems but for now it's running stable, playing everquest 2 now. Things im still curious about.

I let it run all last night dowloading multiple things and its still going today when I woke. The only issues I've had a are a couple minor freezes like 5 seconds or less while downloading off firefox and once the file loads into firefox download manager.

    Best of luck!

Firefox does this to me occasionally as well. It happens with small downloads. The computer isn't frozen, but firefox is for a few seconds and then it does a virus scan of the file I just downloaded and everything goes back to normal.

That is normal and there is no "fix". The BIOS handles this through C-states that we don't have access to.

I just got my G73JH today, and i had a GSOD after using Fur Mark about 5 minutes into the testing with Catalyst 10.10, but no problem with stock driver. At the same time, i played BFBC2 for a while, no problem at all, other than the background flashed a bit, as if someone is playing with the lights at the background. Not exactly sure what happen there.

Please advice what should i do. My current version of BIOS is 211. which seem to be the latest version. Do i need to flash my BIOS again with Easy Flash or use bootable USB(as shown as here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...2354-all-g73jh-problems-solutions-here.html)?

    @ CHEESENIUM,
well, yes if u are having GSOD issues then i would personally suggest that Vbios update. I was facing this problem and when i updated this Vbios (Many THANKS to Chasity) I was finally free with GSOD issue.
    2) yes the link which u have shown is correct, follow it and try to get a newer version of ati flash, here is the link to get the latest ati flash
    Download ATIFlash 3.79 | techPowerUp
I dont think u need to flash ur BIOS again its fine...
    Best of Luck ..
