I do have the benchmarks tested with Sager NP8690, 460M with GDDR5 should perform little bit better than GDDR3:

And thanks Gentech for the info -
They are of different settings? They do have the links to the source where they get the data from, and the settings are explained more in detail in the source, for eg, the XMG7.c's 117.5 FPS is because it's ran in 1280x1024 resolution rather than the native full HD resolution.

So.. were disappointed, Right?

Notebookcheck: Review NVIDIA GeForce GTX 480M "Fermi" in the Clevo D901F
But on nVidia's official specs it says the 480M clock speed is GPU 850Mhz and GDDR5 1200Mhz:
GeForce GTX 480M -
just wondering, the G51JX with 3D had a built in emitter... right?
so pretty much, you could use 3D with the laptop, but you would be technically unable to use it with a desktop too...? -
Huh???
Can you rephrase the question because you lost me.
Pretty sure you need a 120Ghz screen for 3D if that's what your asking. -
Desktop 3D Vision Package = Shutter Glasses + Emitter
just wondering how that's suppose to work from a laptop. from some random source, I read that the G51JX has the emitter integrated onto it, so if it's integrated, you can't just rip it off and put it on a 3D-Vision capable PC. -
Any info about switchable graphics or Optimus?
-
-
-
-
I just hope it's no PITA to change the CPU like it's bigger brother the G73.

Also all of the new cpus already benchmarked Google Translate
-
While they look the same they hopefully are setup slightly different for easier access.
I'm just shooting easy upgradability. -
any chance either the new g53 or g73jw will have better battery life than the current models?
-
-
Given the power requirements of the GTX460, battery life should be slightly worst. -
So both laptops, G53JW and G73JW will have the gtx460.
Whats the difference between the two then, besides screen size? -

Fudzilla reports a 25% lower TDP compared to GF100 o.o
http://www.fudzilla.com/home/notebooks/gf104-geforce-gtx-460-mobile-to-come-this-summer
-

Lower is better though, anyways
-
Saying GF104 has a lower power draw than GF100, tells us absolutely nothing about how a GTX460M based on a GF106 relates to the power draw of the Mobility HD5870 in the current model ASUS G73 or the GTS 360M in the current model ASUS G51....and that is what the original question was. -
anyone have an idea of pricing on the g73jw with and without 3d?
also, is the gtx460 1 or 1.5 gigs dedicated? -

Ken's mentioned that the GPU in the G53, whatever the name is, is going to have 1.5GB of DDR5.
-
Since when did g53 release??
-
im surprised that both the g53 and g73 will have the same video card. I would think that the g73 would pack more heat to cover 3D gaming in full HD -
It is odd to get the 17". Since they both the same its more convenience to get the 15"
-
any chance there will be sli gpu?
-
-
-
Sli would be really expensive in this rig anyway considering how much more Nvidia cards go for than ATI cards.
I prefer single card setups, SLI and XF are great but not worth it in my opinion, never mind the extra heat generated by the extra card. -
I've always wondered this, you know how some laptops possess two onboard GPUs that are switchable? not as in Optimus' IGP/GPU switching, as in how a macbook pro uses a 9600M and a 9400M.
so, you know how desktops are capable of using one primary beefy graphics card such as a GTX 480, and then adding on a weaker card like a GT240 just for PhysX acceleration? can you do that on a laptop that possesses two GPUs also? would be a nice alternative to using identical card SLI setups, just turn on the lesser card to accelerate PhysX. -
Sounds great in theory but bound to fail.(didn't some DELL 13" laptop have that with crappy results??)
I'm guessing you would need special drivers just for that.
Just give me a powerful single GPU and I'll be happy -
So has it been truly confirmed that it's going to be a GTX 460M 1.5gb GDDR5? And where does it lie on the gpu chart compared to 5870, 5850, etc.?
-
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
We don't know the exact name of the device other than the codename is GF106somethingsomething. Ken has informed me that it will use 1.5GB of DDR5.
As for performance, it should be at around the level of the GTX 280m, which I think is above a GDDR5 5850 but below a GDDR5 5870. -
Yea i think (hope) the performance lands between a 5870 and 5850... hoping closer to the 5870
, but wondering about 6870 early next year also.
-
@Forge + Abula,
Meh, that's truly disappointing. It better goddamn have Optimus then, if it's gonna be a sucky video card in a brand-new machine. What's the deal with having 1.5gb anyways, if it's gonna be between 5870 and 5850? -
-

And, all things considered, I'm more used to nVidia GPUs, so I'd prefer their GPUs as long as pricing isn't outrageous (which it usually is). Thankfully, Asus is good with budget, high-powered machines.
As for the 1.5GB, I think it's there to help out with the 3D tech. I'm not going to be touching 3D glasses for my monitor, but I guess a 120MHz screen would be nice.
In any case, I've never owned a computer with the best graphics solution, single-GPU or SLI/Crossfire, so I don't mind at all. Moving up to a 460m is a perfectly fine upgrade for me... and since the cooling should be noticeably better, that means more overclocking headroom. -
Could you explain the need for more memory in a GPU? What's it actually do, since the card itself isn't faster? -
