Maybe the $1500 g53 will include the new hybrid hard drive.

Does it void the warranty if you take the bottom of the computer of to put in an SSD? And would it be better and cheaper to just buy an SSD externally rather than upgrade it with the computer and have it installed later. -

You can install whatever compatible harddrive you want without fear of breaking the warranty.
-
In that case would you get an SSD straight up or buy it afterwards and install it? -

One advantage the SSD has over the Momentus XT is power consumption. SSD'd use less power than mechanical drives.
-
-
no, since they still have spinning platters

If you scroll down on this page there is a video comparing the hard drives.
Momentus XT | 7200 RPM | Seagate
I found this test very impressive.(my cynical side want to see this test done by a third party) -
-
the hybrid performed better than 10000 rpm (ex. 15 seconds faster on bootup, only 5 seconds slower than ssd)
-
-
not in the video. the test timed the startup of things like itunes, adobe, and crysis.
-
-
i don't know how it would work next to a ssd. -

Since I'm from Australia and am having it shipped over from America, what should I do? Because for a few of the recent Asus's first release models or maybe a lot of others I can't speak for but they have have issues like the GSOD and bad GPU's. How long is it usually before they release one's after, which are hopefully mostly problematic free? Would I be safe in pre-ordering the first model and have it shipped ready to go or wait 2 or 3 weeks after it's released and have it shipped.

Just as a note about hdmi audio, I have a G1s. It has a 8600gt and it does support hdmi audio (though through some glitch, the speakers only work in linux), so I would be surprised if the G53 somehow left that out.
-
only the new GTX460 support "Dolby TRUE HD" audio
But you really need a decent sound system to take advantage of the HD audio (i can hear the different with my headphones though) -

Hello all,
i've searched around the forum but didn't find a specific thread about the G73 Jw,so i hope i can ask here.
Well i finally got enough money to get my long dreamed G73 Jh but the store where i usually buy says me that Asus din't ship anymore this notebook cos the newly G73jw is coming. Well is better to wait then the nen one but reading around seem that the nvidia card will be lesser in perfomance compared to the Ati (that's the reallyh point that confused me). Did you've any suggestion like,"wait and see or buy the Jh and don0t bother us more?" ^^ -
well you could always go get the from online reseller. unless you are wiling to wait at least 3 months for the new g73 (if it i really 3 months), then wait
-
Ah well you're right. They says (the store) september but i'm really unsure on this prediction of release. Well i'll wait september then choose what to do .
-
I pray that your stores prediction is correct because I leave for college late September, though I wish I could have it sooner for Starcraft II. Has anyone else heard about a release date from a dealer?
-
None yet.
But a lot of laptop makers release new products for the back school season. -
I can add this. The store received the "semptember release" from the Asus italian distributor. I don't know if is that really true but they say that to me.

I am thinking that they are waiting on nvidia. As soon as the gpu is announced I think asus will set a release date.
-
Any Upcoming event for a chance for nvidia or asus to show off their stuff?
-
How much do you think will be the G53 (I look forward to a minimized version with less RAM, etc.)? Do you think it will be over 1500$?
Should I wait for it or buy a MSI GX640? -
-
But I guess it just comes down to those little bits that make a difference like USB 3.0 which isn't featured on the MSI, also the Asus has the option for a FHD screen, whereas the MSI is an LED 1680x1050. I don't know where you guys buy your computers (because I'm Australian) but here it's going for $1069
MSI 15.4" Gaming Notebook Intel Core i5 430M 2.26 GHz, 15.4" WSXGA, Super-Multi ODD,ATI Radeon HD5850 1G DDR5, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, 802.11b/g/N, Bluetooth, Windows 7 Home Premium. Brushed metal Black-Red from mwave.com
and i doubt the price of the 'minimized' Asus will bring competition to that anyway. -
Does anyone know if this laptop will support switchable graphics if a dual core chip is installed into it? I would think that by this stage of the game manufacturers would implement this in most notebooks. A portable gaming laptop with awesome cooling capabilities might pull me away from my MBP purchase.

I'm wondering if it will be safe to buy the G53 when it get released for the first few months?
Previous Asus gaming laptops had issues with first release (G50/G51/G73)
I don't want to deal with RMA and so. -

It was just a question about the "risk" of buying any new gaming laptop from Asus when you look their history with new releases.
Some people say it's safe because most of the time these issues get fixed with bios updates or so and some say RMA will be a must, some of us live outside America and RMA will be annoying as hell and costly.
It would be nice if someone show us Asus history with fixes for example and if they were RMA mostly or easily fixed via online updates. -
Always hope for the best.
This is ASUS's second go with this style of laptop so whatever the need to improve on from the G73 will be done to the G53.
Asus G53, the smaller version of the G73jh
