Very biased based opinion. I'm in need of a new computer for my IT course in my final year of school because I'm running a very basic fujistu as my other 4 laptops don't work.. Lol but anyway I want this computer and I want it reasonably soon, so waiting a month or two after it releases isn't necessarily ideal for my situation bud, and It's not like I can walk around here and ask how people's G53's are going when it comes out, because I'm getting it shipped in to Australia.
I'm not retaliating as such but I think your comment wasn't really helpful, there isn't anything wrong with questioning a risk and asking for fellow laptop enthusiasts for a logical opinion. With that being said, don't hate me![]()

Everything will be fine, remember they are going with Nvdia GPU's which in my opinion have better drivers and are much more stable.
-
Dont worry, I still love you. I apologize for the rude comment, but I do mean it when I say to not worry. Most users say that the G73 did well (reseller or BB version). I doubt that a smaller version would suck any less. If anything, it'd be alot better than the G5x/G6x simply cuz it has the bigas$ vents in the back. That's what makes me most excited, actually.
As of today, still having trouble deciding between E14, GX, or waiting for G53. Grad school admissions aren't being kind to me, so I'm not rushing to buy quite yet. -
Maybe the G53 will benefit from a less troublesome motherboard
-
A G73 IS portable, you can still move it around and net around 1hr+ of battery life. One of the main purposes IMO of the desktop replacement laptop class to be portable if you really need to bring along all that beef occasionally. Yeah, you need to charge it within a few hours, but you can't imagine trying to lug around a 30lb gaming rig. This is one reason why desktop replacements are great.
-
Only reason why I never got interested in the G73 at BB is cuz that thing didn't fit in any of the backpacks they had at the store. And all of those backpacks were bigger than my torso
The G60 at the time was pretty big for me too. Remember I said
BIG not
HEAVY. I hope noone's still complaining about weight in notebooks, cuz if so, you shoulda got the woot deal for the Iron Gym for 20bucks
-
Where is the best place to buy it online? I'm probably going to do a minor configure to it but I have no idea who does shipping and who's reliable and that
And yes agreed I'm keen on seeing the new cooling system, well the whole computer as well..
-
Hi RP,
As another aussie who is torn between the soon to be released G73JH-FHD-TZ155V and the G53, I will be keen to see where the best recommendation to buy online will be also.
John -
I'd recommend 1toppc or Xoticpc, depending on what state you live in (tax, shipping).
-
1toppc didn't list Australia under the shipping locations, Xoticpc did but maybe it was me but It felt like the prices were higher than that of 1toppc. Am I better of buying the parts separately after buying the basic computer, e.g. The SSD, The 1333mhz ram chips unless that will come as standard. And is the thermal compound worth putting on?
-
Try GenTechPC.
I'm not sure if they do international shipping but they go above and beyond to help you with any problem. -
Since you're overseas, I'm not sure. Maybe amazon might have some notebooks come release day. Also, just get stock configs of whatever you're buying. Everything that's being released lately has good stock configs. You should buy the SSD separately though since it'll be cheaper. 6gb of ram shoudl set you for a LONGGGGGGG time. I only have 1gb of ram on my desktop (which I'm on right now), and can run everyday tasks fine (including W7 ultimate). Same thing on my dv2610.
-
Yeah I know I just wanted the faster chips, though they might have them as standard anyway who knows. I was just using reference from the G73JH.
I thought 1toppc was GenTechPC? -
I believe both are the same company.
-
1toppc = Gentech
Not sure which was the original name, but I found out about them when someone referred me to 1toppc.com -
Still no word on a release date yet? The demand on this laptop must be getting pretty high at this point. Hopefully we hear word soon since I'm dying to upgrade my ancient laptop.
-
72 Pages and no release information shows a clear interest in the computer, and yes it's a little disappointing they couldn't tell us what stage their up to in terms of production, testing or release, but like everything in life "we must wait and see."
-
Official HP Envy14 Owners thread had 200+ pages before actual launch of it
-
the one thing I'm afraid of is that if you notice, the display model at Computex was just a display model, non-working. I mean, it was in a glass case, and look at the back seam...

You people worry too much!
It will be here soon enough
-
July 30 Nvidia will announce their new GPUs for notebooks so Asus might announce release date/full specs by then
-
You're always so calm! Or maybe you don't actually care
And yes the new GPU's are out soon so shouldn't be too much longer before we have a few cheesy smiles coming from some Taiwanese Asus Managers. -
It is tuff waiting for something you want but why stress over it
-
Do you think it is worth the wait or should I just buy the MSI GX640? (do you think it will be a lot more expensive than 1200$)
-
It will cost 1499$ but i expect Cheaper best buy version later on
It will have 2 hard drives and 8GB Ram though like the G73 -
Should have also option for single 500 GB 7200 rpm HDD and 4 GB RAM
-
@monpiresire check out the msi e7405 it has the same config as the gx640 in a 17"screen and also comes with the ati radeon 5870
.. Amazon has it for 1149$
-
It's been a loooonnnnng time since my last post. My curiosity in this new Asus G53 has brought me back. From what I've read in these posts it will have
-GTX 460m (GF106 or GF104?)
-USB 3.0
-Many differant versions
-$1100-$1500?
am I correct? -
That's right.
It's shaping up to be a great laptop if those specs are all there cracked up to be. -
If true, I'm extremley happy with the laptops specs except the GPU. I feel the GTX 460m may be a little too weak (I was hoping 5870m) level performance, but from what I've seen-it won't match up. Maybe I'll get the Asus G73jhA2 instead. Are there any laptops out there with 15" screen but a 5870m?
-
2 that I know.
1.CLEVO W860CU/NP8690
2. MSI GX660
The MSI will be out in about 2-3 weeks. -

Uh.... ok

I KNOW !!

AMD has just announced that Radeon 6000 is coming THIS year
AMD Moves Up New CPU, Graphics Chips for 2010
So nvidia better make GTX460m on par with 5870 at least or they gonna lose a lot of sales (Hell G53 still doesn't even have a release date and GTX460m is not announced yet....)
Also Intel said a while ago Sandy bridge is releasing this year too, so AMD might sell a lot for those who want sandy bridge/Radeon 6000 -
Sandy bridge won't be available on laptops until at LEAST Q1 2011, more likely closer to Q2. So by the time we see a 6870 + sandy bridge laptop, they'll have a 2nd gen g53 lined up
I don't know if they'll lose sales or not with a 460 equipped, which is nearly guaranteed to be less powerful than a 5870... it's a 15" lappy after all, you have to make a choice in giving up a bit of power to gain a bit more portability. I think it'll sell well, the question is which will be more popular, the g53 or the g73? -
Bad news everyone. I emailed Asus this morning asking if they had a release date for the G53 yet and here is their response:
"This model has not been released as of yet. I only get information about what is coming out next month and this model is not on that list. This model might not be available in the US market until the end of the year or begining of next. I do apologize I was not able to provide you an exact date yet. Thank you and have a great day!" -

Q4 is the tentative date for the G53. Although dates/qty's are not provided yet, the sku's is starting to show up on incoming shipment reports.
Hopefully that is a good sign.
-
do you mean gpu?
-
Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
I was referring to the sku or part #, (G53JQ is the sku/part #)
-
Think he means the laptop as a whole... I'd still hope for a late august/sept release, it seems foolish of asus to miss out on the back to school rush.
-
Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
It wouldn't be good to miss the back to school season but August is not looking good.
-
what is your best guess at this point?
-
Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
My guess would be end of Q3 or Early Q4
-
I got some information about GTX460M from my contacts at nVidia:
- GTX 460M (N11E-GS) 1536 MB TGP 62W.
- 3D Mark Vantage score at P8000~P9000. -
Im sry to ask this question here, but is ken the one from powernotebooks or gentech?
-
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
Well, if you look at the user "GenTechPC", you'll see "Ken Lee" in the signature, so...
Looking at the 3DMark Vantage results on Notebookcheck (don't trust it, not reliable, yada yada) the Mobility 5870 is around 7860 with a high of just a hair over 8460.
Pretty good, if it's true.
And yes, we don't know what CPU or other components nvidia tested with (I'm assuming top-dog CPU, RAM, and SSD), but it looks promising. I don't know, looks like it could fill in the niche between the DDR5 5850 and the 5870.
And 62W for that performance? Again, not bad at all. -
Yeah I don't know what CPU, RAM they use to test the GTX 460M either. According to nVidia the GTX 460M takes advantage on DX11 applications but not sure how it performs on DX10 and DX9.
Other information I got from nVidia about GTX 460M:
N11E-GS
192 cores, 192b, 1.5GB GDDR5
MXM P1065, TGP=72/62W -
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
In any case, if this is all true, we're looking at a pretty decent GPU,
It's almost going to be like the 280m/4870/260m/4850 wars all over again. -
Seems really promising, I'm starting to get that feeling again!
Asus G53, the smaller version of the G73jh
