Does it really matter? it take 10mins and it's not like you change your cpu everyday
The current i7 anyway will be as good as it gets and will be replaced by new Sandy bridge early next year and Sandy bridge cpu wont fit
-
New to the forum and I have been following this thread for some quite time now. I'm excited for the G53 to come out on the market when it is released. It looks very promising with the current information we have on it.
-
Personally I like to do my own upgrades.
CPU,RAM,HDD/SDD,and adding better thermal paste if temps are high.
Judging by what you have to do with the G73 it won't be easy, doable yes but more work than just taking the bottom panel off and taking off the heatsink etc.
You basically have to take the whole laptop apart in the G73 to get to all that hardware.
I won't make me not want this laptop but it is something to think about. -

Found a Vietnamese site with the following information on G73jw:
Intel® Core™ i7-820QM, 1.73 Ghz, 8 MB, L3 Cache
MainBoard: Mobile Intel ® HM55 Express Chipset, 1066 Mhz
RAM: 8 GB, DDR III RAM, 1333 Mhz
HDD: 500 GB, 7200 rpm
Display: 17.3 “ FHD 3D LED backlight, 17.3 inch
Video: NVIDIA® GeForce® GTS 350M, 1 GB
CD-DVD: Bluray combo, Blueray BD-R
Webcam: 2.0 MP, Camera built in
Free Dos
I don't know how accurate this could be because the video card is listed as a GTS 350 1GB. I'm hoping that bit is wrong. However, the other info seem legit. For example, USB3 and 3D LED screen. Here's the link below.
Asus G73JW - Laptop, May tinh xach tay, Notebook -
-
There has been much talk about it and ultimatly people decided to beleive the GPU listed was pure speculation and probably wrong -
Can we move this thread to the "Asus Not-Yet-Released Gaming Notebooks" section?
-
That would seriously increase the price. -
is it just me, or is page 81 now glitched up or something?
-
Some news update I believe July 26
Model - G73JW-91016V
Google Translate
I guess it legit, just did a google search on that model number and few europing websites are starting to post them for preorder i guess. -
Whee, the price (~1500 €, prolly without the tax) + those specs for G53 look really sweet (15.6" full-HD display and GTX460)! And nice also for the G73JW, if you prefer 17" laptop with 3D properties...
-
some things aren't adding up with these sites
only 6 gigs of ram 1066 mhz? -
6 GB seems to be quite normal also for the older G73 models on sale in Europe (especially in Germany), but might still be a glitch though.
-
-
Ah, you are correct, the 1066 MHz on these sites seems too low..Nevertheless, interesting specs.
-
Plus The G53/G73 come with 4 ram slots, 6GB (3X2GB according to them) is very weird choice, they either go with 4GB or 8GB.

G73JW with i7 720 and a choice of Nvidia GTX460 or ATI 5850... !?!
I'll keep my G73JH with i7 720 and ATI 5870. -
Does anybody know when this will be released? If it is released in September that should be fine, but if it is in like December I would not be so interested. The reason being I want to play some Starcraft 2.
Does it have Optimus with the Nvidia GPU on the i5? -
If it missed back to school rush it will be DOA because Sandy Bridge/Radeon 6000 is getting released by the end of the year (and it's not a rumor, confirmed by ATI/INTEL)
Ati will release their high end cards first
Intel will release mainstream desktop CPUs/High end Mobile CPU at this year end, High end desktop CPUs will be released in 2011
Also the reason why optmius is not popular because the Current I7 Quad lack built in GPU unlike the dual core i3/i5, the upcoming Sandy bridge cpus will have built in GPU so optmius will be available easily (combined with Sandy bridge high efficiency and you will get a decent battery life on a gaming laptop)
I see no reason why would anyone pay +1499$ for G53 if it was released in december, people will get G51 for less than 1000$ because a newer version arrival (G53) and because of ati 6000 cards. and sell it 2 months later with almost no loss to get sandy bridge laptop. -
The only problem is right now I have an AMD TurionX2 with an Nvidia 8200m Ge Force Go.............so as you can see waiting until February would be painful.
I do need my laptop to last me 3-4 years though. -
-
See I really like the ENVY but I don't like the 25% failure rate pointed out for HP in Squaretrade, I would have to snag a 3 year warranty on that computer so the price goes up. -
don't expect all of them to have solid build etc
Envy is their premium laptops so failure rate is obviously lower (have you even seen how many failures G73 threads? lol) as long as you get a warranty you should be okay
It will be more than enough to run star craft with max specs (people who played the beta already confirmed this check HP forums)
People want the extra performance of G53 for 1080p gaming plus Directx11 (G51 got Directx10 only) plus it got new extras like USB3/better cooling/less noisy/etc
If you don't care about 1080p gaming and you want good battery life then you are choosing the wrong laptop, for battery life go with the envy it got switchable graphic (only with the i3/i5, but you are limited by your gpu not your CPU for gaming with a 5650 card) -
SandyBridge...i5-450m...Optimus...ATIswitchable... You guys are jumbling up my brains. Thank goodness my dinodesktop can play SC2 on low for the campaigns, which means, I can wait
Or, wait a couple more days to see if BCB returns for E14!

France / Germany release date is August 18, 2010

Article on g73jw, looks legit.

i hate it when crapy blog make something up and every other unreliable website copy him
Same thing as GTS350m false rumor happening again as if it were a fact, read the links posted the website is "guessing" based on random blog post
Please only report from reliable website or official PR. -.- getting tired of seeing stupid made up info by bloggers. -
Its great news but besides having a higher contrast refreshing screen meaning the 120HZ which is not the full experience of a screen like from Asus! Its a Asus fail but we have to see how well the 460GTX performs. But the way things are i rather stick with my G73JH if it ever comes back from the shop after two months lol. The G53JWX or close to that look quite nice.
-
guys btotech confirmed that the g53 will be available from september.. the specs are also looking great for the price tag of 1500$.

15.6" FHD-LED 1920x1080

Asus G53Jx-A1 with nVidia 460m Coming in September 2010 - Built To Order Forums Build Your Own PC or Notebook Help and Support -
Those specs do look excellent. Anyone who pre-ordered or will order that will no doubt be very pleased.
-
That's a pretty good price for all that hardware.
Now if only the 460GTX can live up to expectations. -
Those specs sound perfect... To get the G73 now, or wait for this g53? I feel like the g73 is finally getting all its kinks worked out, and the g53 is gonna have some growing pains initially.... hmmm
-
Anyway about the G53, i got my money on the bank if it was not released in September as reported in here i will order something else >.> i don't like playing the waiting game but i gotta admit the spec are so damn good for the price -
-
Can't wait for the specs and price for the g73jw.!
-
im hoping for a baseline of 1700 with the best model at under 2k, that would keep this dream laptop affordable under my budget. I'm still undecided on the 3D tech but I am sold on their hybrid hard drives
-
I'll take the cheaper non-3D screen any day and save a couple of bucks.

SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
Those are damn impressive specs. And even though USB3.0 sort of makes it superfluous, I hope they include an eSata port. MY Antec MX-1s are going to be obsolete too quickly.
What's the performance of the x40qm i7 CPUs? -
The newer i7's just bump everything up a notch
The 740QM = 820QM
The 840QM = 920XM
This might be over simplifying exactly how it works but you can just about expect the "new" i7-740QM to perform as good or the same as the "old" i7-820QM. -
you mean like how pretty much all i7 9XX desktop CPUs up to the extreme models are essentially exact the same chip?
-
Yep, the x40 models are a literal 5% increase over the x20's. Those are strong specs indeed and if it is actually released before sept. it will be a very popular seller.
-
Will g53 have the so called "traditional" ASUS BSOD problems?
-
Blog post on asus rog site:
Welcome to Republic Of Gamers! - Blog
It states that it will have the gts 350M??? -
One thing is I feel more confident about Nvidia GPU's than ATI. -
So people who have G73 have revealed excellent experiences with SC2. Will G53 be the same?
-
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
Who knows? The i7-740QM might give a slight advantage in an RTS game, but the GTX 460m [most likely] isn't as powerful as the 5870.
But, all that aside, the G53 should run it just fine. -
