Thanks ziddy. This also helps me in my decision, now that I know the true defective rates of these laptops. 1% defective rate isn't that bad.

ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support-
A support page for the G73jw... We must be gettin close to an announcement, I'm guessing maybe? -
-
But on the other hand they removed the N53 version with GTX 425 from their website, and i think removing the fermi version maybe is a bad sign..
-
-
Damn I wish nvidia would stop stalling stuff. Just release the cards already, there posting losses in revenues yet still stall the release of these cards.
-
Hi Ken,
Just off the top of your head what would be the shipping costs to Australia for either the G53/G73, I was a bit worried by the $300 to ship to India that was mentioned earlier?
Cheers

Yeah sure!
They were supposed to make a announcement back in JULY but no word yet.*sigh* -

September 3rd is the Launch Date.
-
.
-
Please dont be kidding, I don't think my heart can take any more.
This is going to be the system I buy unless there's a major flaw identified with it. I'll also be buying it through you guys Justin, I bought and returned a gx640 from you all previously due to heat problems and want to support xotic after how well I was treated through the whole process. -

MSI GT660 laptop comes with passive 3D glasses - Pocket-lint -

Stfu Ppl About The 660!! This Guy Just Said The Launch Date Is The 3rd Of September!
Do You Mean The Launch Date Of The Fermi Series Or For The G53/g73? -
Thanks. -
Cheers -
-
Launch date meaning we might be able to pre-order which is not a date set for release.
-
ok ppl, now u can go on with ur 660 talk..
-
It will never be available at sep3 that's probably Nvidia GTX460m reveal
SEP 3 is 1 week~ away from now yet we don't have any review/hands on/leak/video/etc and you can't even pre-order it with real specs so yeah keep dreaming on people about Sep3 launch -
Grr... We said the 460m not the laptops.
-
Which is fine - at least once the 460 is announced we can get the final specs on the G53 and have sites start taking pre-orders.

HD5870M, i7 740QM, with 6GB of ram and plenty of HDD space. Excellent cooling with dual vent giant fan, with turbo cool when I would need it, excellent layout design for easy maintenance.
Except for the ridiculous red accents and stupid lights, the MSI 660 for me would have been the PERFECT 15" notebook. I can't believe more people who are waiting for a 3D vision gimmick aren't saying screw it and get a MSI 660 now! -
Maybe were not waiting for the 3d gimmick and actually waiting for these laptops, as they're not only for 3d.
-
This is why I ordered the GX660r and will give you all the updates when I get it. I do feel I made the right choice and am excited to see what it can do with the HD 5870. No Nvidia Cuda support with adobe but I think I will live, what do you all think.
-
I would say that a better screen would have made this the most amazing deal ever, but it am very happy with my purchase
I ran a 3dmark just now doing a lot of things in the background, to check the super fan speed thing and I got 12500 marks with 68C temp!
my current max temp with regular fan controls is 76C and I live in a near 100F ambient temp area!
Remember that you can adjust the screen color saturation to give it a perfect look!
Oh and I think the equivalent of CUDA for Ati is something like ati firestream.
I think you made a great choice heh -
wow September 3, announcement date for 460m!! One step closer to release g73jw, Thats great news. I am.. I am so happpy, I cannot put it in words!
-
-
Thank you -
what are the shipping prices to ontario canada? and is there alot of duty or whats the deal?

Hi, I've been waiting for the G53 but I just preordered the MSI GX660 (it's not in my country yet and it has a little different specs). I don't understand why does the LED lights bother you. I don't know if it really works but the lights can show you the direction from where the sound is coming and it's tiny advantage in gaming, isn't it?
-
Personally I'm not a fan of the liberal use of glossy surfaces, the raised emblem on the back, or the chrome of the trackpad. I tend to value looks at a very high level with notebooks which is what caused me to buy the Envy previously, and even though its gaming power is very limited I would have kept it based on looks alone if it wasn't for the terrible build quality of all the units I received. -
In suspense. I am very eager to see the Asus G53 if it really is going to be a (slightly? very much?) smaller version of the G73 body, because I admire that style. The wedge shape is beautiful to me and, more importantly, totally makes sense as a way to push a lot of air through the cooling system quietly -- you can have big fans running moderately fast instead of tiny ones whirring at frenetic overworked pitches.
It is kinda hard to tell from the photos so far how much the G53 follows the G73 design. Hey, I wouldn't care if they actually took the big G73 body and put the 15 inch screen into it! Just make the thing cool adequately so that I can plan to keep it for 4 or 5 years, not just 2.
And I don't care what the hell it weighs...my first "notebook" computer must have been around 9 pounds. How quickly we get spoiled. 7 or 8 or 9 pounds of brains and beauty are worth lugging around. If I feel a serious need to lighten up, I'll stop eating junk food -- lose ten pounds of weight that has really low performance and gives really poor image quality. -
Explaining the disrespect for the MSI ornamental LED lights:
First: They are orange.
Here is why that is a problem. In the USA there is a holiday called Halloween. People decorate their windows and doors with ornaments that are rather gruesome or strange or frightening, things like skeletons and giant spiders and monsters. People carve odd, crude faces in orange pumpkins, and place them in front of the house door. Children and sometimes adults dress in disguises and humourous costumes.
The customary colors for that holiday are orange and black. So the MSI 660R, which is black with orange LED lights, looks like a ridiculous Halloween object to many Americans. It just does not have any dignity. And you cannot change the color of the LED lights. (Alienware at least lets you customize the colors of their ornamental lights. And their lights are classier.)
Second: They are individual LEDs.
This creates aesthetically wrong and associatively confusing impressions.
Aesthetically, the multiple individual spots of light from the LEDs create too many design elements, are too many things to look at. They look spotty, fragmented, overdone. If they were continuous tubes or narrow lit-up bands they would look more sophisticated and refined. They would give a sense of direction to the viewer's eyes. Instead, having so many individual little spots of light gives a feeling that a thing lacks any purpose, other than to be seen.
Associatively, the effect of the multiple small lights seems ridiculous, like the meaninglessly blinking light bulbs on equipment in a very cheap funny old science-fiction TV show. Or, they seem fun, but in a childlike way, like the little lights on a battery-operated toy robot. The more lights there are, the more fascinated the child will be, so the toymaker gives it lots of little lights. Or they are like lights on a Christmas tree, again an association with holidays, but one that makes no sense. These associations are confusing because they are inconsistent with the purpose of the object.
The ornament on an expensive and intelligent piece of equipment should convey power with intelligent restraint, refinement, significance, a sense of determination, and dignity. By contrast the ornamental elements on the MSI 660 seems impulsive and frivolous. They seem to say that MSI thinks their customers are all easily-impressed 8-year-old boys. To even see the thing offered for sale, with this appearance, is at best amusing, and at worst insulting.
Clearly the MSI 660R is perfect for serious graphics and design as well as heavy games, and it would seem to be a great product. The silly lights are a bizarre contradiction of the quality you would expect it to have inside. It ought to be a very desirable machine. I tried very hard to make myself want it. I failed.
I am an artist and my peer group is not very status-conscious, does not care about business-professional appearances, and accepts quite a bit of bizarreness. Yet even I would be embarrassed to be seen with this superb machine. Yeah. It's sad. -
Well tro be honest I come here to look for info on the G53 NOT the MSI 660. I understand comparison but seriously people..this has been hijacked beyond comparisons to 660 specifics.
Start a 660 thread..
MODERATORS: Step up and moderate... dump the 660 stuff and move it to its own thread -
That's what this thread should be about. The G53 has not been released and when people start to receive them, there will be a G53 owners thread just like there is with every model.
For now this should remain an open thread for discussion of the G53 to compare to the competition. -
-
-
-
-
Also, if this thread was to compare G53 and GX660 notebooks, then the title would entail as much. Unfortunately, it doesn't, so I suggest you start a new thread for comparison, preferably once the G53 has actually been released for pre order at the earliest, because then we will actually know the specifications in their entirety. -
What we know so far, the G73 and G53 have great cooling, but the cooling isn't the best as the design for the cooling is emphasis on quiet.
The MSI while only have a single fan, the single fan is massive and dual vent. Current 660 owners are saying they can game with temps being around low 70C. I doubt the G53 will manage this with a FERMI...
Anyways it's just something to think about. The MSI will have eSATA, ExpressPort and just like G53, 4 USB 3.0 ports. What does the G53 offer other than the stealth appearance and quieter fans?
Also with MSI all you have to do is remove a panel from the bottom and you have access to the GPU, CPU, Ram, everything for easy cleaning and maintenance. I'm seriously considering selling my G73 when it arrives and buy this 660.
The HD5870M will be a superior card to 460M, there is absolutely no doubt in my mind. And overclocked HD5870M can keep up with a 480M according to Nvidia's released benchmarks. And the 480M has 100 more CUDA cores and 256 bit memory compared to 192 on the 460M.
So the question really comes down to, for G53 hopefuls, is 3D vision really that big of a deal? Keep in mind, even GTX 480 desktop owners say 3D vision performance is poor. -
As much as I like the styling of the G53 over the 660, I'm going to have to wait for performance tests and a volume comparison. I'd hate to go with the 5870m and have the 460m coupled with the bumped up processor be a clear victor (or vice versa I suppose). And the G53 might be louder or just as loud as the 660.

As said before, IMO the question is, PhysX and 3D Vision important to you? -
Goddam it 3d vision is not why I'm waiting for this thing, and the 460m is a brand new card. Even if it isn't the best mobile card in the world, I don't care. It's near the best, thus its good enough. 3d is not influencing my decision at all. Contrary to your beliefs, this thing is more than A reproduction of the G73jh, but with a 460m.
Asus G53, the smaller version of the G73jh
