That's a lot of maybes - I'm cautiously optimistic that with the release of the gpu information on Friday the release of the notebooks wont be too far behind, but I'm not holding my breath.

What's the difference between the 3d version of the G73jw? If the 460m is a 3d card why will it take a month to release the 3d version? Not that I'm going o buy the 3d version, this is just out of interest. And even if it's just the 460m that gets announced, that will be a big step towards the unveiling of the G73jw.
-
The difference between the 3D version of the G53jw and what? The non-3D version? If that's the question then the difference will be the screen, and specifically the refresh rate.
-
technically all GPUs are 3D in a way. They just need drivers to reproduce the frames needed for the 3D effect.
The difference between 3D and non 3D versions of laptops is just the screen, as it needs 120hz for stereoscophic 3D. There are other, less elegant/effective 3D methods such as the Red/Cyan glasses and these work on any laptop right now, even with 60hz screens. -
TipidPC.com | Asus G53JW-SZ056V / G53JW-SX057V 3D
I know this link has been posted before, but it all seems correct, so these are the specs I'm guessing and am almost certain that they are the right ones. -
Guess we'll find out soon enough
and yeah the "Just for size comparo and feeeellllllll....it is HUMONGOUS IN SPECS !!!!! !!!!!" has been posted before ^^ -
They've been quiet about this... Too quiet... It's a trap!
-
it's a setup
-
Shoulda seen it coming, general Ackbar warned us. (wasting time till septembre 3rd). In a quick, totally irrelevant side note, blockbuster has gone bankrupt :0
-
Makes you wonder.
-
Oh well... Hey guys... I'm following up this thread ever since I found out about the smaller version of the HUMONGOUS G73H notebook. I'm still in searching stage of what notebook shoud I buy. And I came to a conclusion that I want the looks and specs G73H had to offer me despite the *SOD issues coming through to this notebook.
And when this threads have been opened I am in the middle of thinking where the smaller version would be slightly lighter but not that much I think. Now I'm still in waiting mode whether what is the best notebook will be coming out sooner, is it the G53JW or the G73JW???
BTW, this will be a HUGE step for me because this will be my first notebook ever to be purchased so I'm taking my time and keep on waiting for a GOOD buy notebook. So any suggestion at this moment will be very much appreciated. Thanks a lot in advance guys and gals.

If you're dead set on the look, and want some portability get the G53, if its gonna be a desktop replacement get the G73 for the larger screen.

SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
Well, you can't ignore nVidia's complex naming schemes, what with prefixes/sufixes like GS, GTS, GT, and GTX.
A GT X 460m is probably going to be marketed as an enthusiast card that's a little weaker and a little cheaper than the top model. Sort of how the GTX 260m was to the GTX 280m.
If there was a GTS 460m model, sure, I'd think that would be a mid-range card. -
hahaha HP ENVY 17 come in with the 3D gimmick with lower ATI card.
It will be to late for G73 to came in this fight.
YouTube - HP Envy 17 3D -
What if Asus just ditched the whole new G series because they couldn't make schedule and instead released the B1 to say they made an update. Now they might wait for sandybridge.
-
G73 is silly to begin with
HP envy is super thin and light compared to G73 plus the difference between 5850 and 5870 is like 10%, 5850 will be on par if not faster than GTX460m
But i don't want a 17 inch laptop
-
I just don't want no hp laptop. -
Its possible but i doubt it, Asus knows that new gpu will help him sell more, so would a CPU, but they are going to try to capitalize on this release and they will also refresh it again with sandy bridge and ati 68xx.
-
I agree - a fair amount of research and development goes into new systems, and companies often make contracts with screen manufacturers, semiconductor manufacturers, etc. well in advance of the system going on sale. My guess would be that Asus would take some sizeable monetary losses if they put the G53 on hold until the new ATI cards and/or sandy bridge gets released.

Asus G73JW-A1 17.3" FHD/NV GTX 460M 1.5GB GDDR5/i7-740QM/8GB DDR3/1TB 7200rpm/Blu-Ray/ Pre-Order: GenTech PC Store
Gentech starts the preorders and releases the specs! Glorious day!
Here's the xoticpc link to the G53jw preorder, seeing as gentech doesn't seem to have it... It doesn't come cheap tho.
http://www.xoticpc.com/asus-g53jwa1-p-2857.html -
The design changes are great. The Audio jacks on the left side is great. The two piece mouse button. Good changes.
-
Very agreed. Plus, the eta is end of septembre... Very good news indeed, at least it's not octobre!
-
This might not be new info.... but i was still hopping for dual hdd
, not a deal breaker but i was hoping not needing to move to 17''.
-
Hmm.. thermal paste or not thermal paste. How was the stock paste on the G73's released thus far?
Edit: never mind, there's no way I'm paying $75 for thermal paste, I'll just do it myself if necessary. -
People say it was good, sometimes it was not well applied by the manufacturer, but in this other thread I'm following, some guy changed his paste and reported better temperatures, so I might get other thermal paste applied too.
-
preorders are now up on Gentech for both the G53 and G73!!! huzzah!
hey, um, what exactly was the advantage of intel's 6200? -
300mbit N transfers? 5GHz support? better reception overall?
-
So getting the intel n 6200 is a good idea? It's not that expensive.
-
A question here:
I know the Asus g73 got a new cooling system, will this laptop have the same? Will the G53 be noisy? And will it be cool?
Im looking for a replacement for my Asus M60j and this seems to fit my requirements. -
I keep hearing/reading this, but what were the changes exactly?
-
Front to back-vents. Drawing air from the front and pushing it out behind the laptop. And two fans, 1 for CPU and 1 for GPU.
The old standard system is 1 fan to the entire system that pushes air out on the side
Is that what you meant? -
What are you talking about? There isn't any new vents for air to be pulled in from G73jh and G73jw.
-
LOL i didnt say that either...Read what i wrote again...
-
I think we all mis-read what you said. Anyways, yes the G53 is expected the same dual fan cooling system with air pulled from underneath the screen and out the back. There are some vents underneath for some passive cooling.
I expect the G53 to be similar to G73, dependent on the ambient temps also. So if you're house if 100F, then don't expect the same cooling as someone with 72F ambient temps. -
Yeah
That is cool. But i havent read any reviews of the G73, so i dont know what to expect. Is it quiet and cool?
And i live in Norway, so low temperatures are normal here. Also indoors
-
If you order it with the "IC Diamond Thermal Compound - CPU + GPU" they will apply it for you., right?
-
Yes they do.
-
says it does have a usb 3.0 port in specs. this is good
-
but only 1 hdd bay
nvm i'll just get 1tb disk -
G53JW has two HDD bay, it's that Asus only installed one HDD.
-
Ohh, that's good news
I thought it only had one HDD bay, as on XoticPC it only showed one bay in the custom configuration. -
If anybody owns a mass time machine that can forward us all to the end of the month, now would be a very good time to tell us all.
-
try a early wintersleep.
ps: only works if your some kind of bear -
I'll try. Maybe I got bear in my family that I don't know of.
-
uses cd rom for other bay, correct?
this is from xoticpc site:
Storage & Drives
1 Detachable 2.5" 9.5mm (H) SATA Hard Disk Drives
1 12.7mm (H) Optical Drive Bay, ATA Interface,
Interchangeable with DVD±R/RW Combo drive, Blu-ray/DVD±R/RW Combo Drive
is this wrong? -
wonder how the sound on these compares to the msi 660.
-
No, I was told by Asus G53JW does have two HDD bays.
-
I preordered the g73jw from Gentech. I would have probably chosen the g53 had my xps m1730 motherboard not kicked the bucket. Hopefully, there are no delays. ^^
-
If there are delays, ima kill someone.
-
thats awesome!
