If you want to add the 2nd HDD your own you can do that, just buy the HDD bracket from Asus eStore when it's available.

lewl despite the contradiction of having Solid state Drive next to HDD, the cost of having a 500GB SSD is around $2,000 which cost more than the US model in any fact. Anyway good news that it's out for pre-order but the cost over there is pretty ridiculous.

I just checked with them and they meant to be Hybrid SSD not SSD. I am quite skeptical about this as well but I will go down tomorrow to take a look and maybe get one myself so let's see how.

You'd hope it's Singapore dollar, and that's alright I was presuming that was the case in any fact as a computer with 500GB SSD as standard is sort of pushing the limits. Hybrid Hard Drives are called HHD just for reference next time.

The g73jw eta is 9/16. The g53 will probably be 1-2 weeks after that. Generally, Asus aren't very good with ETA's but Ken has told me the g73jw eta is looking pretty solid. *Prays*

So that must mean that the G53 ETA also are solid since they both use basicly the same components and design: Sibeam, same GPU (GTX 460m), same RAM, same CPU 740QM etc etc?

They are the same components but they need to stuff it in a smaller casing and that can causes some headaches.

Tell me about it. I picked up a MSI GX640 a few months back and returned it due to fan noise. After that I went through 4 (yes 4) HP Envy 14's and every single one had cosmetic defects. Not fun exchanging computers for 2 months, installing software, etc. Now just a few more weeks for the G53. The silver lining is that the waiting probably got me a much more powerful system - I already put in my pre-order so I'll post a short review once it arrives.

As much as I hate greenday, I must say, they might've been on to something. I'm not one for showing off, but with this thing, you don't even need to show off, it does it for you. The looks just compliment the specs in the best way possible so it just becomes one wicked machine.

In Dx 11 games, the 460m seems to be doing a little better than the 5870. In other games, the 5870 is slightly better.
Either way, it's shaping out to be a great card.

Heh. How about this: You get the G53, I have my GX660R, and we compete who can get cooler mods. Whatcha say, pal?

(And to those wondering, I was drooling over the G53 a while back, but I got the GX660R instead. I have no regrets, even with the G53 launch not too far away. In any case you can't go wrong with either.)

    Optimus requires on-die graphics--or a graphics chipset--which the 740qm doesn't have. And I don't think getting a 640m will allow it, either.

Well, the GX660R doesn't have optimus either, so that's not an option.

Uh... I have no idea. At idle I would assume it would be about the same, if the 460m and 5870 are both downclocking correctly and they have the same CPUs. The G53 has two fans while the GX660R only has one; however, I'm hazarding a guess that the GX660R fan spins faster than either of the G53 dual fans, so fan-power-drain should be close, too.

Bottom line: I have no clue. Hah. My preliminary guess, though, would be very similar battery life under identical tasks.

If you want a gaming notebook and optimus, you need to wait for Intel's Sandy bridge. Q1/Q2 2011...Personally, I can't wait that long and battery life isn't that important for me. ^^

I wouldnt mind too much :) , but in here there is not that much demand for gaming laptops, so selling it is hard and takes time.

Im still having mix thoughts though, i like the MSI a lot, the only thing i dont like is one cooler setup, but its bigger so might not even matter and dealing again with ATI drivers. The G53 seems what i was wishing, specially for Nvidia gpu/drivers, 1080p screen, dual drivers (although not happy with no 2nd hdd bracket), and price, but the silent design might mean higher temps (i battle with mods on the G51 to work cooler, i kinda dont want to be a member of the 95C club, its joke btw).... and with up/backward mounted gpu/cpu.... changing paste and modding might be tougher, i just open an ul30 to till the screen to install 2 more antennas an intel 6300, took so much time, and i really got scared at some point to put it back together, but it worked, just i find it too much time consuming just by design.

I probably will wait for first to reach owners, and see if there are no GSOD, BSOD, or Throttling problems, my G51 is ageging but still hold its own in the games i play. I kinda wish it was poor performer so was easier to wait for sandy bridge and ati 6870, but now idk, time will tell.

Could be even more, the good desktops CPU are coming around mid year or after with 2011 socket... im not sure how is the intels mobile roadmap, but im waiting for those to upgrade from i7 920.

Where do you get off in telling people that sticking a 640M in won't give you optimus? Well maybe not in a GX660R, but definitely in a G53 sporting a HM55 chipset, Asus BIOS, and a software driven optimus solution.

Maybe it's unfortunate that MSI stuck to the PM55, but I'll be enjoying my Antitheft tech and Optimus once I stick in a 640M (maybe even hold out for SandyBridge if it sports the PGA988 for mobiles). :p

Intel HD Graphics will only work if notebook manufacturer enable it in their mainboard, it's not as easy as you thought by just install the 620M or 640M and the mainboard will see the Intel HD Graphics and Opimus will work.

I've just tested 620M on N82JQ that Optimus was suppose work with 620M CPU installed, unfortunately not, the mainboard does not support Intel HD Graphics with 620M CPU, therefore, Optimus will not work:

Well for me this G53 would be ideal. i only just had my G51vx recently and im impressed with the perfromance gamng wise coming from a 9600m eqiv.
What i dont like is the HD resolution. i would like at least HD+ and to play the with the same settings at those higher resolutions. The 460m would help me to play most games with every maxed at 900p and nearly at 1080p but im so broke.

im actually selling my two laptops cos i got debts but if i sold both laptops and had cash left over i think id prob be tempted to wait for the new sandy bridge and 6870 mainly because i did like the np8690 build and of course the performance increase from the 5870 where the 460m is on par with so prefer the increase further from the 260m to 6870 in that sense rather than matching something i could of had in the np8690 plus ive waited ages for quad core to go above 2ghz without it been and extreme core.

So, the only difference between the B1 and the JW is the GPU, right? If so I think I would be more inclined to go for the B1 over the JW...
