Well If you compare the 3d model of the G73jw to the G73jh, you get 3d and a 120hz screen, plus the other things. Wait, is there a 3d model of the G73jw, or is it the same model, and it'll have the 120hz screen from the getgo?
-
I think the 3D version will launch similar to G53 3D version till november.
-
What's the problem with MSI's cooling design? It can keep an 840/1050 Mobility Radeon at 80C.
On stock, if using turbo fan, you can run 3dmark06 at 68C.
It doesn't matter if it is single fan or dual fan. The important thing is to keep things cooled, and at that, it works great. -
So the only difference between a G73jw and a 3d G73jw is the screen? And I'm assuming you'd get glasses too. But then again, you could just buy a 120hz down the line when those things are starting to be common and the technology is more advanced, perhaps to a point of not needing 3d glasses.
-
glasses are far more useful than not with 3D. The technology can be exploited in very creative ways.
Check out some of the patents for such technology, that would enable Split screen multiplaye without actually splitting the screen. Or watching several different outputs on full screen simultanously depending on the refresh rate of the TV.
That, and 3D without glasses has a very narrow angle of viewing.
But anyways, the 3D version does come with 3D glasses but the transmitter is already built in the screen bezel, instead of using USB one like G53. -
I just saw this Nvidia video about their new line of cards and the G53 gets some camera time.
First NVIDIA 400M GPU Notebooks Show Up On Video | Notebooks.com -
Man that G53 was looking like a king there with the ugly acer right next to it. I almost had an orgasm just by looking at the G53
Can`t wait until its being shipped out to customers. Right now im undecided of who i will purchase it from: Either XoticPC or Gentech... -
I'm already decided to get mine from gentech, the customer service there has been excellent, one of the best I've seen, so far. Peace of mind in case something is broken or something happens is a great thing to have. I'm thinking about the 3d. Does anyone know If there's a huge fps drop with 3d? What do you guys think about it?
-
Yes there is, FPS are cut in half when in stereoscopic mode.
It might seem like a cool idea at first but it's only a gimmick, you will torture your eyes if you game for any extended time In 3D -
Nvidia expects to regain lead position in notebook market with Geforce 400M - Graphics - Graphics - Fudzilla
g53jw will have the 3d vision transmitter built into the LCD bezel... -
Aye aye, if ever I get a 120hz tv, I'll try it out sometimes. Also, another difference between the jh and the jw is that the jw has 1333hz ram
-
Yeah, knew that. I emailed Asus tech support; they confirmed that they would enable support (will double check in the BIOS). You can check with them as well. I just ordered mine from xoticpc @ $1.5K. Still awaiting the release of the i7-640M, 1066mhz 2x4GB Mushkins (ordered), 60GB Vertex 2 (ordered), and the HD cam part (ordered).
I'll probably replace that subwoofer if it's unbearably crappy or if I have the time.
I will be in bliss unless they release affordable OLEDs before 2014. Then I'll have to purchase them as well, along with another 2x4GB Mushkins (16GB glory!). -
Now ur just talking a lot of crap no one cares about...
-
Really? A SSD, a LV i7, and some decent RAM seem like standard upgrades. Then again, I agree that OLED is thinking too ahead, since AMOLEDs aren't expected until 2014.
I mentioned 16GB, because by the end of 4 years, I'll probably turn the lappy into a virtual server like my old alienware. -
Hmmm... This thread is way less active than before.
-
Yeah. I thought this thread would be more active now with a bit of more info available.
-
This is always the slow period for new releases. The specifications and price have been released so we can speculate on that any more, but no units have shipped with the 460m so we can't do benchmarks for comparison with ATI cards. Give it a few weeks and once the first G53's find their way into the hands of consumers I'm sure the thread will pick up a lot.
As for Gentech and Xotic - both are very good companies that seem to go out of their way to please buyers, I don't think you could go wrong with either. -
The curtain is raised, the mystery unveiled. All that's left to discuss is the release day, then order status.
-
Things will pick up soon once members get them in there hands.
-
anyone know why Xotic only offers the '53 with 1 HDD
-
Send them a email and ask.
-
Do we know whether this version of the 73jw will have a 120 hz screen?
-
i was planning on calling them next week with a few questions including that one since i'd like to have a SSD/HDD combo along with optical drive.
-
Why do resellers always have an option for an upgrade but no options for downgrading? I dont need 8 gigs ram, i7-740qm, 1tb space.. All i need is 4 gigs ram, i5, 320gb and i should now wait for amazon or best buy to release their models hmmm
-
Because downgrading a pure gaming machine is offensive to the resellers and Asus
-
I'm sure BB will have a version of the G53 and my guess is it would have the specs you want, I seriously doubt the BB version will come with a i7.
The only drawback I would say it would more than likely have a lower res screen(1366x768).That won't be too bad as long as its a good quality screen. -
I agree with IKASV, i think bestbuy might have a water down version, mostly to the specs you want in except the screen, my guess probably around $1199. I kinda wondering if they will get a G73JW version though... i mean with their GPU being more expensive and the laptop meant to be more value oriented... but probably also.
Would be interesting if the Amazon/Newegg/Bestbuy i5 version comes with Optimus enable.... i doubt it, but would be nice. -
Haha, I'm waiting on that too.
-
I see no audio input and output for my amp setup etc, like the MSI 660 has and I wished there was more than just a mic input and headphone jack on the G53. Maybe no biggie to most but do any of you see a solution for this..Thanks.
-
Because those are the base stats that come on the machine when it arrives at their shops. Giving you less ram require them to open it up and remove the 'stock' parts that come with the system, and a lower processor would require them to buy a separate part to replace the one that came with it.
-
how much of a batt life increasr you think we'll see by swapping in an ssd? I can imagine that keeping two hard drives spinning 7200rpm each at once really eats at the battery life.
-
Usually on new laptops the audio connections are multi-purpose. e.g. the Mic input can "detect" if it's being used for a mic or for stereo line-in or even another output. I've seen a couple of laptops that when you plug in a connector, a diagram comes up on the screen showing that it detected a mic, line-in, line-out or whatever...
You'd have to ask an owner of some other MSI product if MSI works that way or not. -
alladintherogue Notebook Consultant
I have an MSI motherboard....desktop though, but it works like that
-
They offer an upgrade to 2 HDDs, but the reason they defaulted with one is that the 2nd HDD occupies the optical drive bay.
Exact quote from customization menu:
EDIT: rp stated below (as discussed before) that the G53 supports proper 2xHDD bays, but require a purchase of Asus brackets (so no removing the ODD bay!)
The i5 versions sounds like it would be interesting, but the screen...
I think that multiple audio connections are used for those analog 5.1 surround sound headphones (Psyko 5.1?). My current lappy works the way you state though.
~0.6-1 Watts (SSD) vs ~2.3-2.9 Watts (Hitachi 7k 2.5in)
Forge stated below that power savings is negligible. He is correct, because SSDs with the old SATA controller designs caused higher total power usage to compensate for the higher performance.
However, I experienced a 1.5 hour increase in battery life. The trick is to get most of your apps to run off of ramdisk ('ramdisk:/'), moving your temp folder to an SD card, etc. The automatic way of doing this is something called EWF, but is currently an XP only thing.... unless or unless (easier). -
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
In general, I've heard it's negligible. Also, it depends on the SSD. Some eat more power than others.
It shouldn't hurt your battery life, at any rate, but don't expect an extra hour or whatever. -
It's call G73JW-3D and ETA is November.

Greetings from Istanbul, Turey. I am currently on a 5 day vacation here and am very excited with all the recent decelopments too.
Yesterday my sister told me she would like to buy a louis viton hand bag, which costs upwards of USD 1000. I told her that it is stupid to spend so much on something just for a brand name, that she can use any bag to carry her stuff in! It was at that point when all he'll broke lose, she then tauntingly pointed out to me why I need to spend 1700 on a laptop, when I already have a dell laptop ( dell 1710, core 2 duo, 1 gb ram, 256mb 7900go video card, 80 gb hdd)
After 30 mins of discussion, patiently explaining, and logically explaining about specs, comparative price and what not, she just turns around and walks away.
Hhmmph girls ..... -
yes but no; most laptops have the option to remove the optical drive and have it replaced for another drive. If you had been following this thread prior to the pre-order release you would have noticed that GenTech (1toppc) said the G53JW has a two HDD bay, but Asus only released it with one installed, If you want to add the 2nd HDD on your own you can do that, just buy the HDD bracket from Asus eStore when it's available.
-
Oh, I read about that somewhere too (probably here). But, I defaulted to what Xotic said. Thanks for the correction.
-
Will probably cost $300+ than the regular G73jw. If I was really into 3D, I would probably just get a 20-24inch 120HZ 3D ready LCD for about the same price and hook it up to the notebook.
-
Oops typing from iphone, hate auto correct!!
-
Maybe a little noobish question, but using the 3D-screen with non 3D applications will not have any negative effects right?
-
ofcourse not.
-
Welcome to North America, and a laptop is WAY more usefull than a handbag anyways...
-
Other resellers such as Gentech have confirmed that it will be available with 2 HDD bays.
EDIT: nevermind read roastedpork's post... didn't see it at first. -
sooo u have to take out the dvd player, to put in the second HDD? thats kind of stupid.. it hought it was going to legit have 2 HDD bays,, maybe there wasent room for all of it in a 15 incher?
-
Nope, re read the posts. You have 2 bays, but only 1 HDD installed. You need a bracket to install the second HDD.
-
Eurocom is offering the 460M as a +$44 upgrade over the Mobility 5870, on the w8x0 series.
That should give some semi-concrete info on the price difference. -
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M - Notebookcheck
That's on the beta drivers... I can't imagine how much it will kick the 5870 in the rear when the improved drivers come out!
Also, I love the framerates vs. the 5870. Seems like the 460m is a lot more powerful than we all anticipated. Time to get my pre-order in now!
