Seriously, did an Nvidia rep burn down your house or something?
-
noooooooo....... c'mon, g53 gotta come out a bit sooner, what's the holdup?
-
Delayed as usual.
-
We were discussing the G53JW, not the G73
-
Why would that matter even a little? Same hardware.
-
he is talking about your statement about the g73jw on xotics website.
-
Oh nvm, my mistake. I see the specifications on Xotic's website.
Even so, that is still one beastly 15" notebook. I wouldn't fret over it personally. 8GB or 6GB highly doubtful anyone would notice any performance, unless they do massive amount of video editing.
- I agree if at the time you pre-ordered, and it was 8GB/1TB then you should get it
- But for anyone after the change on the website, shrug it off. It's still an incredible deal. I think a lot of people here are forgetting how much this laptop would cost if it wasn't for Asus and MSI trying to undercut the competition by such a huge margin. -
Anyone here feeling the love for the HP Envy 17-3D right about now ???
Seriously, what's with the massive structure of the laptop for a slightly above average hardware. -

Maybe there is some confusion here
As promised in the previous post:
We are honoring all customers orders EXACTLY as they ordered. No deviation from what a customers order confirmation/receipt shows. -
Sorry, i meant as an available upgrade for the G51Jx-A1. Not available for the G53Jw. If not for the graphics card, those two notebooks would be pretty similar.
-
No one is stopping you. Just install a third antennae. And highly doubt the G51 has 3 antennae anyways.
-
The G51 did came with 3 antennas, i change my Intel 5100 card for Intel 5300. But the newer asus laptops only come with 2 antennas, so unless you are installing the 3rd (imo is a pain, already did it on a ul30) then just go for 2 antenna like 6200.
-
I have pre-ordered my G53JW through Powernotebooks (I even snuck in just before the RAM downgrade) and I am very much looking forward to this new system.
One thing I noticed on a video I saw of the G73 was a lighted keyboard. I was wondering if anyone had heard if this was going to be on the G53 as well. Not a huge deal, but it would be nice to know. -
My guess, it will be the same keyboard as they used on the G73. The keyboard on the G73 is designed for 15" not 17". For 17" keyboard, the number pad should be better designed, since there is enough room for it.
This IMO is one way Asus is reducing costs with so many different laptop models. -
xotic and gentech both have the illuminated keyboard listed at the bottom rundown of everything on the notebook. i believe so at least.
-
ps, i wanna sell my g71 best buy and get this, how much do you think its worth?
-
$400-$500 at best.
Post that here:

Ah, I see. You know what? I think this is all my mistake. My original configuration, before the upgrades/downgrades, did consist of a 500 gigabyte hard drive and the 8 gigabytes of ram. Where I was initially confused was, between forum posts and emails with customer service, I thought I'd be receiving the upgrades and not the downgrades.
Guys, in no way is Justin not honoring his previous statement. I'm very sorry for the confusion! Customer service has been great. Still quite happy with the service, and only raving reviews will come from me so far.
And I'm super excited about the impending release. Here's to hoping it comes sooner rather than later.
-
Hey, look at that, we've reached 200 pages. Happy 2000 posts?
-
And this is all before a single G53 is released.....lol
-
Good news (hopefully) - In anticipation of the G53JW, I called Asus sales team and they told me: "The G53JW will be ready for sale by Mid-September and not Late-September" ...let's just hope this is true lol
-
Are you sure that is what the ASUS dudes said? -
Absolutely. Why would I create a fictional post? It was information from a single employee - it may or may not be the correct information but those of us who pre-ordered it can hope for the best.
-
For some of us Canucks on here, I emailed Memory Express for some info. The person who responded (Tim from Calgary SE) said that his Asus Rep figures the first week of October. Once again, whether that's 100% accurate or not, I am not sure, and am going on the word that I received.
-
Why did you have to spoil my potential good news with potential bad news?
LOL -
Heh, it's pretty much the same ETA. When you get ETA of late Oct/Nov., then you need to sweat. ^^
-
As long as it gets here before mid-October, I'm cool. But man, the sooner the better!!
-
Do you mean the customers that pre-ordered with 8GB ram and 500GB HD in the original listing are going to get their hard-drive downgraded to 500GB, after discovering that it was shipping with 750GB from Asus, in order for the 8GB of ram to be honoured?
-
Hurray.. G73jw videos are out on youtube from xoticpc, gentech pc and btotech.. Finally we are getting some real life benchmarks of the 460m
-
Looking goog so far, very impressed!
-
How much does the CPU factor into games these days? Would I be better off with an i5 540M over an i7 740QM or should I be thinking about upgrading to an i7 840QM? Honestly how many games are being produced to take advantage of more than 2 cores? Would the higher clock rates of an i5 be better or would it become the bottleneck only having two cores? Based on those youtube video's it seems that cooling is a non-issue now..
-
Thing is I don't know any place that offers one with a i5.
Saying that even the i7-740QM will handle any game you want. -
Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
We tested an i5 in the G73JW on Friday and it would not post, only black screen.
We are going to try a i7 620 next week and see if we have any luck with that CPU.
-
That's interesting.. Wonder why they would list the i5 on their spec sheet? Thanks for answering my question!
-
I am excited to see this. Can you try the 620 in a g53? And do they even support the IGP on those chips?
-
There wont be any optimus support IE IGP on the G73 line...
They should certainly offer it since the motherboard supports it and the 15inch model should have it as well but wont ...
I guess Asus does not want to deal with the support issues that Optimus will bring. -
In general you can say that about any high performance laptop. I notice from Clevo and MSI, even their latest will not support Optimus.
-
Yeah but i believe some of rigs have the PM55 and the HM55, so some do support it and others cant because of the hardware ?..
IRC the Clevo has PM55 but am not sure about the MSI.. -
MSI uses both I believe. But either way, it has to be enabled in the bios. IMO it shouldn't be a deal breaker since no one buys performance laptop for battery life.
-
I would actually welcome something like optimus, because I do use my laptop for both performance and extended periods of time without being connected.
But at the end of the day, with 3hour battery, I am more than pleased. -
Im sure there are a few out there who would love the best of both worlds
.. Im not one of them because i want a Quadcore or nothing ..
15inch machines though are meant to be more portable though so IMHO should have some what better time unplugged. -
Looking for a new laptop Quadzilla?
I'm not totally sold on OPTIMUS with the automatic switching, I'd rather do it manually if the need arises. -
I have a JW coming next week and currently have a JH lol.. Yeah im crazy what can i say
...
I wanted to try out that new Nvidia card lol... -
Seems like MSI might possibly change this. MSI GT663 gaming notebook spotted in the wild - Pocket-lint
-
Gentech benchmarked the 460 GTX and got P7461 in Vantage and 6660 for the GPU.
is that sort of low? -
Honestly yes it is sorta low but ill base my decisions on the games i have which are quite a few... If games are running great then Vantage will matter very little to me..
I dont put any weight behind Vantage honestly and clearly the GPU is capable of running equal in some games ala FarCry2 and then alot worse ala Crysis ... People were saying well FarCry2 is a Nvidia game and thats why it runs equally as well but last i checked so is Crysis so that whole Nvidia thing does not hold much weight either ...
Either way i am excited to give the 460m a shot unlike others who have written it off completely
...
-
I'm game too....after people get them and post some reviews
-
Lol yeah i cant blame you .. Im sure by the time the G53 hits you will know everything you want to know about the 460m so making a decision will be very easy..
-
The hands on impression videos posted so far have showed pretty phenomenal temps, even when running future mark. I think it was around 40C idle, and 78C max when benchmarking. Noise has been reported to be minimal as well.
-
Oh yeah temps are great right out of the box thats for sure...
I think IKAS V is more after how well it games and more so in comparison to the 5870m ...
