Sorry - I wasn't responding to him, I was just putting up a random observation that had nothing to do with whats above![]()
I can't wait to see real world gaming scores as well.
Another plus is that with the G53 pretty much identical in depth to the G73, hopefully those temp numbers will spill over into the smaller version.
-
-
Yup!
Temps are very good but performance comes first, as it should.
After all we get these laptops to play all the games we love.
It will be compared to the 5870 for sure but I'm more of a Nvidia fan myself.
They should be pretty comparable to each other with one edging the other out depending on what game you use.
I don't see one being leaps and bounds better than the other. -
The only title i have seen that looks like its running significantly better on the ATI card is Crysis and while alot of people can say Meh i already played Crysis or i dont care about that game !! id like to see why its running so much slower in comparison ... Crysis 2 is coming after all
..
-
Intresting... Optimus on MSI... lets see if its real on October.
-
Crysis was optimized for the earlier G-80 and descended architectures up to GT 200. Fermi is a completely new architecture, so Crysis runs the same as it does to ATI hardware, with no special tweaks to run on anything except the G80-GT200.
Nowadays, Metro 2033 is the new "brutal" game with regards to sheer punishment, and only a few GPUs can run it just ok at max settings. the GTX 470 can run it max on 1600x900, but 1080p is a real challenge.
In other words, don't expect GTX 460m or 5870m to run it fluently at all. I've tried 5870m on Metro 2033 with all DX11 features on, it was a slideshow.
GTX 460m = GTS 450 on desktop, with difference being that the laptop version runs on a 192-bit bus, as opposed to the GTS 450 only on 128 bit bus.
5870m = essentially an 5770 on slower clocks... -
Meaning i5 will have different motherboard.
-
Gentech, you benched the score of Vantage and others for g73jw, please tell us what these scores were on g73jh as well so we can put them in prospect !
-
I think it's all about speed and textures. Nvidia is the opposite of this, slow. HD5870M remember has core clocks running at 800 mhz, this is faster than even the desktop variants. And the HD5870M and the HD5870 desktop both have higher texture output than the Nvidia counterparts. The memory is at 1100 compared to Nvidia, even the GTX 480 desktop is only running at 900. With all that texture, I would think fast ram would help. The memory controller on HD5xxx and HD6xxx IMO better than FERMI, A LOT better.
3 trillion polygons per second is Crysis
-
I wonder if Asus is also going to switch to a different thermal compound to the current one they are using.
They must know by now that it is a very cost effective way to keep the temps low and thus preventing a lot of RMA's due to heat.
Also did I mention v. v cheap ICD7 -
We will find out soon enough, I'm hoping that the Nvidia card will be a good over clocker.
-
Hmm I would be curious about this. There seems to be some conflicts I see. The Desktop GF104 is proving to be pretty good for overclocking. How stable they are over long period of time no one knows.
- The cooling and fan noise is great on the GTX 460. I think this probably has to do with really huge heatpipes. AnandTech noticed the cooling layout on the HD5xxx is still better as it affords more ports etc. So it definitely looks Nvidia went all out for cooling, even on the GTX 460.
But for mobile line, Nvidia has severely cut the clock speeds. My guess this has something to do with both heat and power. How that bodes for G53/G73 will be curious.
- While you can have giant heatpipes and oversized fans on the desktop GTX 460, this cannot be said for laptops.
- My guess 460M should be fine, I wouldn't be surprised if it may surpass HD5870M or get really close. -
Maybe it's just not to trump the upcoming 470MGTX.
I've had a lot more success OCing Nvidia cards than ATI for some reason.Maybe it's just luck of the draw. But I'm hoping it will be able to OC at a respectable level without compromising temps to much. -
I'm really surprise none of the vendors have oc'd this card yet.
-
Well, a lot of us dont want to screw up by experimenting with our mobile cards compared to desktop cards! As desktop cards can easily be taken out and RMA'ed but for laptops, you have to RMA the whole laptop which can take up to a month for fixing and returning
-
WoW, Its been a long time
Seems like I finally found my trusty G50VT replacement!!!
This G53 looks amazing EVERYTHING wise!!
My only one complain would be the lack of 3D support...hmmm
Do you think they might include it later on? -
They will come out with a 3D version sometime soon.
-
heh, i've overclocked my 9600m GT to 9700m GT clocks in my Macbook Pro (possibly the worst laptop to even attempt OCing), and there has been no issues so far at all. Only thing i have to do is to turn up the fan speed from 2000 RPM to 6000 RPM. It's been like this for a year and it still works fine.
And yes, i'm sick of the crappy performance even when OCed. Why ya guys think i'm getting the G53 after all? -
OC'd what cards? this is the first laptop to come out with the 460m!!
-
At the moment its November for the G73-3D model and im not sure what the expected date is for the G53-3D ...
As usual this is Asus so be prepared for delays
..
-
You don't want the 3D version. It's a lower screen resolution. And 3D means the GPU has to display the same image twice. The 460M will not be able to satisfy for the latest games in high settings from the latest games. Honestly, IMO just forget about it.
The non-3D will be 1080p. And it does have HDMI 1.4 so you can output 3D BluRays. And you don't need Nvidia 3D Vision to view 3D movies. -
Supposedly both the G73-3d and the G53 will have 1080p 3d 120hz screens...
But yeah the card is no where near strong enough to play most games in 3d at that resolution and running things out of the native res is terrible for most people ... -
The 3d versions comes with 1366x768 resolution, if you think about it, it's the same workload on the GPU.
1080p frame rates will be the same as 1366x768 3D framerates, since doing 3D is making the GPU work twice as hard. -
No it's not exact like that. Look up reviews on the 3D Vision. It's not taking off because simply doesn't work very smooth. Even when you have a desktop GTX 480.
-
The 3d versions will be 1080p so im not sure where your getting your info from ?...
Also i saw your comments about about the 5870m with Crysis and also Metro as being the new thing for testing and im well aware of all of that having owned 8 systems with a 5870m but im not interested in Crysis on the ATI card just the 460m ...
As for Crysis not being optimized for the 460m ? drivers are written all the time with Crysis in mind like my Desktop 5870s in crossfire so yes Nvidia and ATI both currently still work on getting older games to work with newer tech and optimizations for said games ... They dont just drop support for older games and especially flagship games like Crysis... People use these games as examples of how new hardware will run older games... -
Quadzilla, actually I believe both Ken and Justin have said the 3D vision will be 1366*768 for G53.
-
Yeah thats why said supposedly when mentioning the 3d on the G53 but it was confirmed the G73 is to have a 1080p 3d display...
Whether it ends up being true is another story altogether but Chronbodi sure seems convinced they both will... I dont follow the G53 progress at all so it could very well have a low res panel...
I myself am interested in the 120hz displays but not in the 3d ...
I did get a kick out of him coming along in the other post explaining to me about Metro2033 and Crysis though as if i have no clue about current games or the 5870ms performance ..
I didnt arrive here yesterday lol and based on my desktop in my sig i should know a little bit about what im talking about
..
-
No way!
Quadzilla is a legend in my book!
-
Lol ...
Well i didnt want to come off as a pompous jerk when he commented earlier to me so i didnt say anything but this guy sure seems to think he knows his stuff and he very well may but speaking to someone like they fell off the boat yesterday is abit frustrating ?
...
-
yes, i may be mistaken on the 3D resolution for the G73, but i do know that G53 is definitely 1366x768 for 3D.
I just don't think the GTX 460m can do 1080p on 3D, it just doesn't have the horsepower to do it. -
There is no doubt the 460m cant handle 3d in 1080p but that may not stop them from adding it ..
Honestly i dont think many people will want a 17.3 inch laptop with a 1366 screen for such a premium price whether its 3d or not ... I wouldnt want a 15inch with that low of res either but it is a smaller screen so maybe a little more tolerable .. I know IKAS likes 1366 on that size screen so those people certainly exist ..
For watching Blurays in 3d it will be fine though
.
They can always lower the res anyhow if they really want to play games in the 3d which stinks for many of us but some people may not mind just for the effect.. -
If the hardware is capable a 1080p screen would be very nice, I'm not a fan of 1366x768 but if it's a good quality screen I won't mind as much.
I'm going with the full 1080p screen this time around.1600x900 would have been perfect for the G53, in my opinion. -
the thing I think is odd though is whether or not the G73-3D has a 1080p screen. I mean, it really doesn't make any sense to still equip it with a 1080p screen on the 3D version. Both have essentially the same hardware, and if the 460M probably isn't quite capable of running 1080p-3D on a G53, then why would it on a model with just a bigger screen/frame? That is, unless that bigger frame allows some weird sort of clocking frequency increase...
-
No, it's because a low resolution 17inch screen is a travesty. 460m is not powerful enough for 1080p 3D gaming.
But imagine the complaints one would get for buying a high priced gaming notebook with an awful low resolution, big screen. -
then again, the person might complain "Hey, how come that guy with the same hardware plays MW2 BETTER than me on that tinier laptop?!"
-
I know that most of us are going to use these little monsters for gaming, but I was curious: will anyone be using them for other things? (aside from the basics, and all.) You know, editting, coding, etc? I just want to see how many of us are out there.
I'm using mine to play a few games, but I'm a game artist/animator by profession and needed a portable beast that could handle my work for some years to come. Funny story: A series of problems with my PC's motherboard eventually lead to the old thing becoming unusable (except when booting to Knoppix, and only for ten minute intervals.
) so I've been working off of... wait for it... a NETBOOK all summer. Surprisingly, it can handle Flash with a few hiccups... but not much else, really. I can't wait to get my hands on this baby and see how much faster I am with a machine that is better than my old PC!
Anyway, what about you guys?
(side note: I don't know if it was cleared up earlier, but I AM, in fact, receiving the G53 with all the upgrades and none of the downgrades. I thought I'd clarify it once and for all. I spoke with Justin on the issue and everything's been cleared up on my end. Sorry for confusing everybody!) -
The main thing I'll be using it for is to make electronic music (Deep House / Atmospheric Drum & Bass, etc.) which requires a very powerful machine if one is composing a complex track with lots of instruments to prevent lag/delays, like: http://tiny.cc/cl4vx
My second priority is gaming (BF:BC2, SC2, C&C, WoW, etc.).
I just hope the 7LBS+ of weight is convenient
I think it will since it includes a backpack. I have a Targus over-the-shoulder bag and my previous 5.5LBS laptop was semi-comfortable, but I can't imagine using the same bag to drag 7LBS + accessories around ..hurts the shoulder overtime. Ty Asus for the backpack
-
hey Justin, can you send a crack team of commandos to jump through the windows into ASUS HQ and find out EXACTLY WHEN ARE THEY.... ahhhh... release the frickin' G53 already?
-
Oh man, I already know a backpack is necessary. I'm hoping the Targus backpack is awesome quality, but something tells me I have no reason to doubt. (I own other Targus equipment and it is all pretty great.) If not, well, I have a couple of backpacks that may be able to handle this fatty.
I'm actually a little excited for the mouse. I've been using a loaner mouse at work and, well, it works but... I want a cool one >.>
Gaming is my second priority, as well. I was all set for a Toshiba, when I remembered that I had a list of computer games I had been playing on my late PC. I immediately gravitated towards Asus then.
My little bro was pushing me to get a Sager, but I couldn't resist the hotness that the G73 was offering. And when I found out that the G73 had a little brother, well... I was sold.
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Too funny
Justin = Superman!
-
Agreed! The sooner I can ditch the netbook, the better.
-
Yup - I was never a fan of the G73's large bulky size since I couldn't picture myself dragging it to school and having to say "sorry" to the person next to me in the lecture halls b/c i keep bumping it into them lol. I'm happy the 'mini me' version of the G73 came out (well, not so mini). I haven't been this excited for a new 'toy' since ....a very long time ...perhaps 15 years ago when Toys R US was selling the Technodrome, MegaZords, etc. LOL
-
The link isn't working, and I was genuinely curious, too! Might you have another?
-
YouTube - Collab: Sleepless Night ("Honey" Mix) - Subliminal Influence & Mr. Madness (aka MrM)
But yeah, G53 will be amazing in handling FL Studio, Reason, CuBase, and several other music creation software simultaneously! -
Megazords! That would be an awesome name for the laptop. (I'm a dork... I name everything!)
It's been an exciting couple of months for me. I pre-ordered and sat around for the Droid X, and now I'm sitting around waiting for the G53. Savings are thoroughly emptied, but it's a necessary upgrade in the game of life. Amirite?
BTW: I won't be naming my laptop Megazord. -
ROFL To be honest, my favourite laptop name was 'Area 51', but I guess it's just 'M15X' now, which is a shame. Since the G53/G73 designs are based on a stealth bomber, they should promote AS a Stealth Bomber. I'm sure that would nab them more sales ...cool names always do. And yeah, not being able to keep up to your team mates in game b/c of poor FPS always infuriated me ...but now with the G53, it'll be the other way around muhahaha (queue evil laugh). PS: I also 'emptied savings' ...student budget sucks lol.
-
Speaking about stealth bombers, I'm still waiting for someone to finally design something after the B-2 or the F-22/F-35, lol. I'll be naming mine after my desktop, R4D4RPR00F2 (desktop's a Raven 1 case, I'm a sap for stealth jetinspired stuff)
-
So if Justin is Superman then does that mean that Donald is Spiderman?
I’ll be using my G53 for a whole lot of data processing (SQL etc.), granted I don’t need a high end video card for data, but it sure makes the data look sooo much better (especially if it’s chugging away in the background while I’m gaming).
As for the naming of the laptop…I’m partial to “Bob”. -
I had a laptop named Bob, once. Fantastic little thing -- my first. Ah, Bob.
I'm thinking about naming my G53 "The Master." Cheesy, I know, but I'm a big fan of Doctor Who. *shrugs*
Oh, and, Voodooi, I watched the link. Did you do that? It's awesome!
-
Yup, that's what I do with the majority of my spare time
'Stealth Bomber' > Bob
I wonder why the laptop industry just doesn't name laptops like automobile companies do with their products. Letters mixed with numbers is sooo 00'. Now that we're in 10', we need cool names/titles (most come from sci-fi).
- Asus: Nuclear Reactor (Limited Edition)
Green/yellow casing with a biohazard sign on the outer case
- Asus: Black Widow (or 'Venom')
A spider type casing with the spiders body in the center and its legs extended to the sides
Idk, just throwing some ideas, b/c the only laptops to impress me with designs out of all the gaming laptops combined is the G53/73 stealth design and the Alienwares (MSI GT series isn't bad with the lights too, but the casing isn't eye candy). I don't think I've been WOW'd by anything else. There's big profits in making laptops look cool, companies just haven't realized it yet. -
I went to best buy and I brought my g50vt-x1 laptop... compared it to the G73 in store.... JEEZUS IT'S HUGE!!! I'm actually now afraid to get the g53... it's absolutely massive compared to the g50... and the g53 doesn't seem to be much smaller than the g73...
Asus G53, the smaller version of the G73jh
