Gave Asus a call and this is the second sales rep that told me:
"We have it listed as Mid-September. It should come out anytime now"

Edit: This is regarding the G53JW

Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
G73JW's are already out and shipping.
Unfortunately until the G53JW comes out there will not be any resellers that can post these pictures. Once it arrives in stock I am sure there will be some side by side shots. -
blank - nvm misread
-
Thanks Voodoo1!

As of 5 minutes ago, ASUS U.S. PM is telling us 2nd week of October. Hopefully it will come sooner but it doesn't sound like it.
-
Dear God, please no LOL
I'll continue harassing them if there's no release past 'Mid-September' and see what they say. Sales department queue is long, though - 25 minutes+.
-
Why, why two different answers? And they're practically a month apart!
I hope, hope, hope, hope, HOPE it is in September and not October. D:> -
Yeah I know ...
If the two sales reps were in-fact correct, then I'll be very happy (even if it's late September).
If it's mid-Oct, I may switch to the G73JW. That's 1.5 months into the Fall semester without a computer. Might pick up a dirt cheap notebook and wait ...hmm, not sure. We'll see
-
How long does it usually take from the time a re-seller gets it to the customer getting it? I realize it depends on where people are in the line but 2nd week of October is pretty depressing plus I imagine some extra time for the reseller to configure and ship. Ugh..
-
Perhaps it's reseller priority? I googled a handful of other resellers and many are sticking to 'Late-Sept". So I'm thinking Mid-Sept Asus ships it to priority resellers and then by Late-Sept, it's received, configured and ready to ship.
-
The Email that Justin got should be 100% accurate for all resellers so dont get your hopes up for it to arrive earlier...
Asus for the most part in the past has been late to the game and not early so if that email is correct which im sure it is because Justin has no reason to make up stories then its going to be in that time frame...
They could be having production issues or having a hard time allocating parts etc so the date changed based on that...
Online resellers not showing the new date is not unusual since they wont just change the website the moment they get an Email if they even got one at all.. -
I don't think anyone is saying that Justin is making up stories.
I believe both Voodooi and Justin, actually. Obviously, Voodooi is a customer... so they're going to give the soonest date because it is what we want to hear. Justin is a reseller, so they're going to give him the worst case scenerio date, so that his company will be prepared.
In my opinion, it looks like we'll be seeing our G53s between mid-September and mid-October, which is what we've been told all along, anyway. Be prepared for a long wait, and be surprised/happy if it releases early.
-
Yeah i didnt mean it like Justin was making up stories but sometimes people see things they dont want hear/read and they may not want to believe it...
His words come from Asus directly which is the Source... Things probably changed a few hours ago according to Asus and they get that news right away as where other sites out there have not reflected those changes yet.. Happens all the time in the notebook world especially Asus...
As for between Mid September and Mid October well thats a whole a month of Mid lol... -
You mean I have to put up with another month of ZOMGWTHFG53BBQKTHXBAI??!!
-
Well to add to our release date confusion ... I just received an email from Asus stating that are planning on releasing the G53 by the end of next month. It's looking like we still have a longer wait than we'd like.
-
Are you all familiar with the 'Son, I am disappoint' meme online?
That's my face right now. -
man if we wait that long, than we may as well wait for sandy bridge, or if you want it early, just get the g73jw, by the sounds of specs, its not much bigger at all... you look at the G53 there is a huge bezzle around the screen, than you look at the g73 , it has a slimmer bezzle. To me that looks like the only difference in size, is the actual screen, the rest looks exactly the same. same length, hight and depth, The g73 looks almost edge to edge glass, where the g53 has the same body and size, just not edge to edge and with a thick bezzle and smaller screen area.....
the innnards are almsot the same, but you get a couple extras with the g73jw. Why not just get it? its a couple hundred dollars more... but at least that way u will not have to wait. -
You're right, and for me it's about a $100 difference, what with my configuration on XoticPC. I'll wait and see what updates happen this week. The whole reason I got excited was because it was a little smaller. Every little bit counts!
-
Hmm....that does not sound encouraging.
-
u forget same weight.
-
Different by about 1LB
-
Yeah but one ships with 2 HDs and other just 1, so you can take off a few ounces from the G73 just by yanking a Harddrive
...
Dimensions i found online are not all that large either for a bigger difference in screen real estate...
15" x 11.42" x 2.36" (W x D x H)
16.6" x 12.8" x 0.8" - 2.3" -
Waited this long.... Might as well wait a few more weeks... Or a month or two
-
Or just buy a Sager NP8690 which is almost the same cost now for a better warranty, better build quality, better reliability, better support, and faster delivery.
-
Sorry, but I don't consider a 'good warranty' a warranty that forces the customer to pay $ for shipping one way
Umm, I just checked the specs and it's not that great compared to the G53JW.
First off: (sager VS asus)
- i5 vs i7
- 320gb vs 750gb
- ati 5870 vs nvidia 460m (460m proving to be superior)
- 4gb of ram vs 6gb of ram (8 for those who pre-ordered early)
- 1 year parts vs 2 year parts
- no accidental vs accidental
I see nothing but a BIG downgrade lol (I think I've just been trolled) -
yeah there is like no difference in size or weight really. an inch wider? big whoop. an inch wider, but 2 more inches of screen real estate.
That must be one big screen bezle. I find large bezles kind of ugly, Why did they make it so darn wide for? they could have cut off an inch or or so to make it alot thinner. I can understand the depth why they are the same, because of the cooling and I could really care less about depth or height, its the width that makes it crappy to carry around i find. May as well dish out the extra dough and get the bigger screen. I bet its going to be higher quality as well. -
does anyone know the demensions of the g53 vs the MSI Gx660? The MSI gx663 sounds pretty sexy as well, comes with the GTX460. Should be out soonish I think. Maybe even around the same time as the asus. There warenty is almost identical isnt it?
sorry for the double post, i didnt know how to delete a post and edit it... well I know how to edit but not delete lol -
The dimensions for both models are listed on www.GenTechPC.com . The GX663 is set for late October but it hasn't been 100% confirmed yet (release date).
As for the warranty I have one word when comparing the two: 'LOL'
Asus = 2 way free shipping UPS, 24/7 phone, 3 bus. day turn around
MSI = 1 way free shipping UPS, 6-6 M-F phone, up to 10 bus. day turn around
The only good thing that MSI has over Asus is the wait time to speak to someone from technical support. MSI is about 10 minutes, while Asus is 30 minutes. -
Um I have a G73 for the record but I feel as if I should have bought a Clevo; Anyway:
This costs around $200 more than the Asus and has:
-Same processor
-500 GB Hybrid drive vs 750 GB <--- personal choice here TBH
-460M
-8 GB RAM vs 6
- 2 years parts and labor WITH 2 way 3-day-shipping; asus gives you ground here
-yeah there isn't accidental damage though
I would have preferred Sager because its smaller and it looks more professional :| -
That's weird. When I googled it, it showed totally different system specs from a couple vendors for 1349$ (the one's I listed), which I found ridiculous considering the Asus is only 150$ more. Damn vendors!
Didn't realize it was customized, I assumed we were having a stock VS stock talk lol. It's less appealing to Canadians (or international buyers for that matter) b/c the repair center is located in California, so it would take quite some time to ship/repair (unless you live in BC/AB then transit time would be fine unless customs keeps it for an extra day or two for w/e reasons). It's also stated that Canadians have to pay 1 way, and they pay for it back.
-
Ya I like the S1 model a lot and wish I had purchased that vs my G73 (woulda come out around 250 dollars more expensive with skinning but I would get a nicer motherboard, more overclocking, no missing keystrokes, and portability) Its just that I'd need an external battery. I'd love my machine if they just fixed the keyboard missed keystroke issue :|
-
Yeah having owned both the G73 and the 8760 i liked using the G73 overall more save for the GSODs of the past because of things like Battery life, Backlit Keyboard, Sound system..
Clevo though clearly uses better internals then Asus does but in the end they both have there pros and cons ...
Im back to a G73-JW(arrives tomorrow) so id say yeah the Asus won me over ...
Missing keystrokes though is a big deal for some of the fast typers out there
..

"I find your lack of a release date date disturbing."
--Darth Ko -
I was feeling doubts again, so I checked out the images of the G53 for reassurance. Man, as fat as it is... it's still one hot piece of machine. D:
I still think I've made the right decision. But man... seriously! This wait! It's killin' me. -
Ya, each time I consider another model (like the GX660R), I take a look at the G53JW pics and the idea escapes my mind ...until the next day LOL
-
yeah the GX663 will be a bit smaller, about half and inch thinner, and a full inch smaller in depth. Weighs less, has 2 harddrives, more ports (more usb 3 ports).... better sound. Everything else is exactly the same
hmmm now lets just see the price difference.
also its SMaller and has a bigger screen 16 inch vs 15 -
So has anyone had any experience with pre-ordering one machine (like the G53) and then request from the reseller that they fulfill the order with an alternate machine (like the G73). Just wondering as this would be new territory for me.
They have my order and my money; would they really want to swap things out now? The more I think about it the more I’m thinking that the G73 is a nice machine…especially if I can get it configured like I ordered the G53. -
Sure, there wouldn't be much problem changing orders. You just would end up paying the difference (if any).
I changed my order with gentechpc from G73JW to GX660R when I got it. -
Yeah they wont mind at all .. One less person hassling them about the G53 is probably a good thing
...
-
and one more person getting their order a little earlier in queue!
-
This thread sure does go in fits-and-spurts. The sad part is I realize there's probably not much more to find out about the system until its gets in the hands of retailers and customers, but I still hit refresh every hour or so hoping for someone to post something (related to the g53 or not...).
Another 'x' on the calendar, another day closer to release. -
will wait till the end of time if I have to!
-
Same boat. It's the nervous calm before the storm. I wonder how long it will take from the time the reseller gets it to when I get it (I ordered right before the RAM change)....
-
It may be obsolete by then.
-
LOL says you that doesnt even have an NP8690 according to your list of PCs.
But i am with you about it been an awesome laptop. Im waiting for its successor.
Tho i want an G53. prob wont afford one till the new sager line will which will be just faster than 480m IMO.
Also the G53JW is now listed in the UK asus site but not in the USA one yet. -
It was on the US site....
Nvm i lied. -
Actually it was only listed on the global site previously. The G73JW isn't even listed on the US site yet.
-
Well I just bit the bullet and placed my preorder with xoticpc. Here's hoping that the G53 gets released sooner rather than later.
-
...Amen.
-
I making myself mentally ill from doing daily mini-research projects on the G53JW to see if an exact date has been announced LOL
Asus G53, the smaller version of the G73jh
