Asus has not provided a release date for the system yet. A few vendors are expecting to have a shipment on the 21st, that's the best estimate we have at the moment.

I am one of the 1000 people waiting for this laptop! I didn't reserve it but if it doesn't come out the 21st then i might just bite the bullet and go for the MSI GX660R...

^^^ mostly screen size and bulk. Alot of people like the that this laptop is actually a laptop and not an overgrown version. I personally do not want anything bigger than 15.6. why would I? its called HDTV. If I want a bigger screen I'll hook up to the 60inch and play away. I believe that to be the general idea here. Plus its new and alot of problems have been reported with the 17 inch versions.

Agree with the above poster, mostly size is what people are looking in the G53, but regardless you also get 1 year less warranty so a lot of people mind this a lot, i personally don't care too much, but some do.

+1 that... Might as well carry my desktop around.... i'm looking for something that I can actually carry around (which is what a laptop should be right?), if people buy these bigger laptops and don't plan on moving it, get a damn desktop...

While i agree with you on your statement, im gona wait for the 2011 socket sandy bridges, i think right now what they gona replace are the i3/i5/i7 1156, and the real push comes with quad channel memory and six core cpus with more accessible pricetags on the 2011 socket and still more than 6 months away, and probably more to get some good coolers with support for this socket at least on the mounting, kinda like 1 year from now :)

    Great minds think alike!
I'm all with you on this, the next big step won't happen until Q1 or Q2 next year like the AMD 6000 series GPU's and later Sandy Bridge.
I'm sure Nvidia will have some sort of answer to AMD's next series so it should all be good.
    I hope :)

I dont expect much more for either company in this new series, probably some good tweaks and some extra performance, i think the big jump is coming when they move 28nm, probably late 2011, but nvidia is preparing for ATi refresh also, Nvidia working on GF100 successor, GTX 580 to counter Cayman.

Yes that's probably why, because i7 version supports 4 stick of RAM and i5 version mainboard can only have 2 RAM slots.

Yeah, most probably it will be a rebrand of the fermi chips and named as 525m, 545m, 560m and 580m with slightly higher clock speeds and may be a small increase in memory.. Thats what nvidia usually does :)

Hi guys do anyone have any idea of how much it would cost for shipping this laptop to india and does any of the resellers do it?

I know GenTech ships internationally. The cost is 150$ for USPS Express.

Edited: Fixed USPS and not UPS.

That is close to what USPS Express Mail International would cost, not UPS, which would be much higher.

The best thing to do is contact your reseller with your complete shipping address and exactly what you want to buy because shipping rates depend on weight, destination, and value (for insurance purposes).

absolutely wrong. USPS does not cost any less then UPS or fedex. The rates for vat are set in stone for all carriers. NEVER use usps if you have a chance at UPS or fedex. We stoped using usps years ago. There is atleast a 2% loss with usps and the delays when they happen are weeks long. i have seen them take a month to deliver sometimes. Avoid usps at all costs. There is a reason why usps is unable to turn a profit while ups and fedex can.

For clarification, USPS Express Mail International does cost considerably less than UPS or FedEx for the shipping and insurance cost.

However it is correct that the shipper used will not affect any Customs duties or taxes your local government will charge.

As for losses and delivery times, the experiences Geared2play is reporting are indeed several years old. We have not lost a single shipment in the last few years, and the delivery times are equal to or within 1~2 days using USPS Express Mail International.

with usps it gets worse, it gets alot worse. I have been using UPS for years and will never use usps again unless i have no option. Some countries have no option for UPS but most do. Always always avoid usps like the plague especially if you wired money. If your box gets lost or damaged with usps expect claims to take 3-6 months if they pay up at all. I have alot of experience with usps far more then i would like. Usps is an absolute horror. UPS claims (if they actually had any) take less then a week to complete. Out of the last 1000 items shipped with UPS expedited overseas we had 1 claim and it was due to a broken lcd damaged in transit. claim was paid in 5 days. always go for UPS or FEDEX. I hear alot from people that usps is less expensive with customs. THis is true when your vendor declares it as a gift. Here is the problem with declaring gifts
    1. USPS claims will not pay the vendor if this is the case. They will give you the run around after run around
    2. USPS customs may or may not clear gifts from commercial shippers. private shippers stand a better chance
    3. no self respecting dealer with any experience and dignity will agree to send you a product with a commercial value marked as a gift, if you find one good luck!

    It's a great design...

The unique look is why it attracts so many buyers. I'm sure if they kept it plain looking like a business laptop, the M15X/GX660R would steal all its sales.

not sure what usps.com rates are but we charge a flat 120$ for any box under 20lbs to the following countries: UK, Australia, netherlands, singapore, indo, taiwan, u.a.e., sweden, ireland, israel, thailand, mexico, cyprusand 20 more i cant think off. there are maybee a half dozen countries that are excluded from that offer unfortunately.

If you have not lost a single shipment i hope you never do because you will switch carriers immediately. I just lost a 2400$ box to lithuania via usps. the box was hollowed by local usps counterpart in lithuania. i have lost a half dozen boxes with usps over the years. if you have not consider your self extremely lucky.

Well i do, i mean not always but sometimes when i visit customers or do new product meetings or presentations, if i dont take my proyector (most of the time i try to avoid it), i use the one available there, and the old ones still no hdmi, for the average user there is no loss, even in my case its not a big deal either, but for some might.

Beats me - strange because all of the the pictures I've seen thus far show a VGA connection on the right side. I like using the VGA port over HDMI on my tv as d-sub connections bypass all of samsungs processing, decreasing the video lag ever so slightly.

I'm sure if it had a unicorn design on the outer shell of the LCD and a pink keyboard you'd be allover it! :p (jk lol)

Paypal is so frustrating grr. I think I'm just going to credit card it because I had to make a second paypal account to do the E-Check thing (since my first one has disputes on it due to me selling a beta key on ebay, the guy used it and then made a dispute - of course paypal is favouring the buyer since it's a virtual item and I'm sure the buyer knew that, so he got himself a free beta key) b/c the bank account confirmation is taking forever.

I agree, most girls would probably frown at the G53's immense size and stealth bomber look, but the G73 is what I fell for in my hunt for a laptop. Every smaller laptop I could find with the specs I wanted looked too flashy on the outside or unsatisfying on the inside. I personally don't like a lot of LEDs on the outside or sides of my machine, or strange designs on the laptop lid. Then the G53 came out -- a cheaper alternative to the new G73, with a slightly less overwhelming size.
I think it was being a girl that made me dislike the other laptops on the market that offered similar specs. The other laptops are a bit... hmm, masculine? I mean, the GX660 has a rugged quality to it, don't you think? and the G51 had that claw design on the cover... meh... the G53 and G73 might look like a weapon, but daaaaamn if they aren't sexy beasts, right?
Plus, what guy would get a rainbow keyboard? I'm combining the fierceness of it's appearance, the aggression of its specs, and theundefeatable magic of a unicorn all into one kickass machine!

I'm sure it'll be a hit in San Francisco and Toronto :)

You're right about flashy lights. I'd hate sitting in a lecture and having 50 people come up to me "WOW WHAT MODELZ DO YOU HAZ" :p Three more days ...the wait is finally over! Hopefully my 480p unboxing video will come out good on my 3MP smartphone but if not, I'll just post pictures and a personal review.

Why hasn't a laptop company released something with the name of Unicorn? I mean... unicorns, they're awesome.

I still haven't figured out a name for the G53. Bob just won't cut it... that was the name of my first laptop back in High School, anyway, and it wasn't half as amazuhzing as the G53.

    Hey... I AM in SF!
Actually, that's why I asked for it in a different order, so it wouldn't be recognizable as the pride flags we fly. Unfortunately, I don't think verificationsactually understood my instructions... :( I'm going to email them to the sales rep on my order just in case.
(I asked them to put the colors in a certain order and I also asked for a few changes on my order... but I think they concluded my email was more of a question than an order change.)

Oh yeah... just a few more days! I hope all my changes won't keep my little Zombie slayer from reaching my house before the end of October.

So these "ETA" and "Shipping" dates... Are those the dates that the resellers receive it at their offices, or is that the date that they're mailing 'em out to buyers?

Also, a bump on a previous user's question: If I Preorder/Order today, will (we) be part of that first batch of shipments?
