Yep, the G73JW they tested previously came with two 500GB Seagate SSHs.
Their Pre-Production Sample still has a VGA port so lets see whether the final product has got one or not.![]()

How long does it take for resellers to receive from ASUS after the computers are shiped out?
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
It depends on where they are.
It takes one business day to get to PowerNotebooks.com -
I heard gentech is right next door to Asus
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
ASUS is in Northern California and GenTech is in Southern California. Two business days in transit if they use UPS or FedEx Ground.
-
lol, the battery life is miserable just as expected... 2.5 hours... you guys were dreaming.
+1 for the review
It's 2 hours idle with no wifi and min brightness
1 Hour at full load at full brightness.
I wonder if it can even play a bluray at medium brightness with 3d on.
The one cnet got was an old test unit, because they still thought the base ram was 8gb and they never had an pictures of it, so it was not a final unit. There has be vga... its impossible to remove it. -
so will you guys have the computers by today? or is Asus shipping today?
-
2.5hours is better than my expectation. I actually was expecting 1hours and 45min (and still expect that much)
Also, what do you guys think about Xpad4Laptop.com
I use my computer on my bed alot, and without a cooler, the bed sheets will warm up the computer. I am thinking getting this so it will not be heat insulated, it will be quiet because there are no fans, and it will block the lint directly underneath the vents so they are not sucked up and get stuck on the "radiator" -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
ASUS will begin shipping to resellers today and should be finished by tomorrow. -
Do you know how big is the wait list for the G53 at powernotebook?
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
This first shipment has been sold out for a few weeks, but we are hopeful that we can fill new orders from the next shipment which is supposed to be much larger.
-
This is the first laptop I've bought that's ever been sold out everywhere.
G53JW = iPhone 4, iPad, Tickle Me Elmo...lol
Hot item! -
You have to name your laptop Tickle Me Elmo.
You HAVE to.

@AnimataurKo
I remember the craze of those Elmo's in Canada. Parents lining up for 24hrs+ outside Toys R Us/Wal Mart to get their hands on them lol. It was on the news and radio and people would go to incredible troubles to get one for their kids. Even on Ebay people would pay x10 the price+ lol
The first batch is getting received by resellers tomorrow. I'm sure they'll do youtube reviews either the same day or the following (providing they're not extremely busy) and then user reviews will either be up by this Friday or very early next week.
I'd avoid MSI, though, since their warranty handling and phone support is the worst I've ever dealt with, and I've owned Asus, Dell, MSI, HP and Toshiba laptops. It's worth the wait for the second batch of G53JW's! -
I'm saying everyone was saying it will have 2.5 hours of battery life... BUT THEY WERE DREAMING. Its much less than that... 1 hour under full load and 2 hours idle with min brightness

What's frustrating is that I still don't know if I'm going to be on the first shipment or not. -
Hopefully you are since you're the 3-D expert of the NBR forums (lol)
-
I'm really flattered by this... but, I'm sure there is alot of people that know 3d more than me here and they just don't like it. That's understandable if they are hardcore gamers. They wouldn't like to play games in 3d because it takes you more to focus which means you need more time to react in a game, whether it's a racing or shooting or any other kind.
I was into the shutter glasses 3d style when it used to cost 10k, I didn't own it of course, but my uni had it and they were developing 3d apps for it, such as medical equipment and such. It was wired... no one thought infrared could be useful in tvs any other way than being in a remote lol.
My only complaint for this laptop is that my whole set up at home is based on having my laptop ports being on the LEFT SIDE. My power plugs, my monitor, my 25m hdmi cable, all run from the left side of the laptop... so this is going to be annoying for a few days.
Also, anyone already know what they're doing with their older laptops? I'm gana use mine for my TV as a Media Center. -
So is the 3d one shipping to resellers today/tomorrow too?
I thought this one was coming along later? -
hi, i am located in singapore and i really2 need this asus g53 notebook as a surprise present for hubby, can you guys pls pls help me, i am looking for phone numbers of the retailers or asus agents in singapore, i have been calling everyone in simlim and lucky plaza and nobody actually carry this notebook...i am very2 stress now....thank you very much in advanced hope to hear from u soon

How does Asus International Warranty work?
I live in Brazil and there is no ASUS Authorized Service Provider here (or anywhere in South America (!!) ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support-). I intend to buy/import my G53 from XoticPC, Gentech or PowerNotebook, will i still be able to use the warranty? -
Since my old laptop is a crummy netbook, I'm going to do a clean wipe and give it to my little brother. He gets most of my electronic hand-me-downs
As for why the computer isn't in stock at any of the stores, it's because... well... they aren't in stock yet.
Only a few G53s are released at the moment, and no one owns one of these machines just yet. sorry. ):
-
Everyone thought so too... but Ken (Gentech PC) said they are receiving the 3d one too, but a small number of them.
-
It's best to speak with one of the resellers here, but I know that the Basic 1 Year Accidental Damage Warranty is only for North America. And the basic type of warranty is a 2 year GLOBAL warranty for parts/labor.
If there is no Authorized Service Station in Brazil, then you will have to ship it to the nearest one outside Brazil. Because they say GLOBAL, I'm sure it will be covered.

Yes you will be able to use the warranty. You will not get the North American Accidental Warranty but can use the 2 Years of Global Service that comes with the notebook or the upgrade 3 Year Global Warranty. As for the service center side of it you would be setting up a RMA for it to be serviced in a nearby area. -
Well, it looks like the US is getting them first and a few days later Canada. Since the first batch is sold out, you should contact a reseller on the forums by visiting one of their websites (I used GenTech myself) and get a date for the second shipment, also asking if they still have pre-order spots left for the second shipment so you can get it in time for your husband
I'm pretty sure US resellers do ship to your location too.
@Metallic:
I was looking @ 3D LCD's on ebay and it's not that bad in terms of price. A Samsung 3-D monitor, new, from the US, is about 350$ (incl. s/h) for a 22". Is that a good deal?
Does anyone know what I should be looking for in terms of prices, brands and specs for a 3-D LCD?
===
I was also considering a second HD (320GB) but Google says they're an additional 1-1.5LBS. So that would make the G53JW up to 9LBS? Is this true? Are they that heavy? -
It looks like stores in Canada will get the 3d version and qhdb1 version on the 25th (monday)
Can anyone answer my previous question on passive laptopcoolers? -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
^--^
Not only will you not need one...due to the design of the ASUS G53JW-A1 a cooler won't really help. -
No no, its because I use my computer on the bed alot where it will be insulated if i dont use some sort of passive or active cooler stand
-
Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
I always go by that you can never have to much cooling. IMO a cooler is always a good addition even though if it shaves a just couple degress. If you are using it on your lap it is a good idea. I run the NC2000 on my G73JW and it takes a couple degrees off the GPU/CPU.

"Your order has been shipped.

OMG OMG OMG
...
Wakes up... awwww -
LOL After reading the start I told myself "omg omg they're shipping, gotta check my e-mail". /hate lol
-
TRICKERY I SAY
TRICKERY -
Let's hope the resellers get them before UPS pick-up stops tomorrow since I opted for UPS-Expedite (Canada-2 Day). They don't deliver on Saturdays here (I don't think) so GO FRIDAY!
I almost went for the 2nd Hard Drive but 3 websites say it's 1-1.5LBS addon ...no ty
-
lol
...is friday a sure date?
I would love nothing more than to get it before the weekend -
Seriously, a whole pound and a half? I was thinking maybe half a pound. D:
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
500GB 7,200 RPM HDD & Bracket = 3/10 of a pound...0.3 pounds
-
That's right, Paladin, talk some sense into Voodooi
Crazy kid. -
@Metallic:
Well, Expedite from Cali to Ontario is 2 Days (it was on my last purchase) so I'm crossing my fingers.
WTH! All those sites lied to me. Now I have to change my order because I thought it would turn the overweight beast (g53jw) into a Behemoth! Thanks for clearing that up. +320GB INC. -
That's great news!
I will just wait for the next shipment to make my order, probably november..
Thank you, Justin. -
I've never had a single hard drive so much space... let alone 2. I'm looking forward to having the space! But... I'm a bit of a data pack rat D: First thing I'm going to do when I get this beast is establish an organized storage system to keep track of exactly what I have!
-
hahaha, maybe its an ancient 5.25'' hdd
-
It's b/c I compose electronic music and sample a great deal, so it fills up quite fast. Just my FL Studio "set up" alone is about 350GB (without samples). I have LOTS of addons
@Metallic
Yeah, I should of checked the dates from those other sites. It may have been 6-7 year old hard drives weight lol -
Organization is sonething i lack for sure. My downloads folder has 600 files and 23 folders
-
I usually tell myself I'll be meticulous with data labeling but in the end, my desktop is packed with icons and I have to use the search function to find everything lol. I'll try not to do it this time around
-
I usually have a "spring cleaning" day to clean up all the mess in my computer. Such as uninstalling betas, and apps that I never use, and putting all files in folders... but that in itself is a mess, I just have too many folders (pics 1, pics 2, pics 3, friends pics, friends, old friends) AHHH
That "Spring Cleaning" day usually happens when I'm extremely bored...
Also, I have so many downloaded files and folders right now because I'm just readying my 3D content lol! -
I'd like to know if the hard drive bays take only 9.5mm drives or will they also take 12.5mm drives? Any resellers here can tell me? And if I want to put a 9.5mm drive in a bay that takes 12.5mm drives, is there a spacer or special bracket? One of the options is a 1TB HDD.... I'm assuming that's a 12.5mm drive.
How thick is the 750GB drive? Are both bays the same size (depth)? This is important to me because I may want to swap in one of my own drives -- I have both 9.5 and 12.5mm drives. -
My roommate in college had one. It's useless for G53 IMO. Also, its really expensive. Just pull out the wooden panel thing in your computer desk that your keyboard sits on, and put that on your lap. Or, do what I do: put the lappy on top of a board game box
EDIT: But if you must have a cooler, I think the Thermaltake 23 is a catch for $30 at Frys. It should be fine for G53, since theres alotta vents at the bottom. Another one would be one of those notepal ones that have the (re)movable fans. -
Don't use the laptop on your lap... you really don't want any problems down there... and this pad does not seem to protect anything... they say it REDUCES, so it's crap...
"reduces risk of male infertility and toasted skin syndrome!" -
12.5mm drive should be no problem since the G73 series can take it, also both G73 and G53 uses same HDD bracket:
750GB drive is 9.5mm.
Also it's not easy to access hard drives on G53JW, the access cover on the bottom does not have screws, the screws is under the pamlrest.
So in order to remove the access panel on the bottom you must first
1: remove the keyboard:
2: Remove the palmrest:
3: Remove 9 screws:
4: before you can remove the access cover for HDD, Wireless and 2 RAM slots:
-
Holy jeez, +10 for the pics... got me excited!
I think it's best for everyone to just have them installed at the reseller... I hate opening my laptop.
I also like the clean look at the bottom... but I am a little surprised by this, upgrading is not as easy as removing a few screws at the bottom.
Good thing I upgraded to intel 6200, I was planning to buy it from amazon.
Note: is the multi media memory reader slot at the front ?
