It's dreamy..

I just checked the BTO youtube video review as well and they put the G53 on top of the G73, somehow the difference is very little on that video.
but seeing from Ken's video, it looks much smaller -
so much interested in the temperature change when they put Arctic Silver onto the GPU and CPU
-
I wonder if repasting will be cheaper when you upgrade ram to 8gb because the CPU will be right there next to the other ram slots
-
I doubt that as it looks like one only need to take away the keyboard and the black sticker to get to the empty mem slot. To repaste it they will need to take it apart. At least that´s what I think having seen the 3 videos so far.
-
I dont like the rattle when you tap on the palm rest..
but the lighting up ASUS logo is a nice touch
The videos up by resellers so far for those of you who just want the links

If someone is getting them from Canada, would they mind posting how much the duty/brokerage etc costed them?
-
Finally live action shots, looks great so far
-
Hello, are the keyboards same(interchangable) from g73?
-
Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
^ Yes it is the same keyboard
Here is a good website were you can plug in your purchase details and it will give you estimated tax info. Keep in mind if you do UPS Express there are No Brokerage Fee's, plus you get the laptop very quick. -
Now that all of the videos are posted here's the next big question ... has anyone received notice about their G53 shipping to them yet?
-
Lol no still phase 1, but i'm checking my e-mail like a kid on xmas.
Stop with the teasing guys, we know you have the G53s... now we want them too.
During Ken's video I actually wondered if the Asus logo would light up, because it seemed deep to me that it reached the rear of the screen. -
Theyre probably not going to ship until the extra brackets come in for those who did uphrades
-
Did anyone ordered from PortableONE?
ASUS G53JW-A1|15.6|FHD|1920x1080|LED|i7-740QM|1.73GHz|6GB|750GB|DVD|ROG
Someone told me they are good, and their review is not bad...
Since Gentech and XoticPC may have a huge waitlist and nobody knows how big will be the next shipment.. it's nice to have alternatives -
Awesome, thanks!
-
That website looks to be out of stock too and I've never heard of that site.
Why not e-mail the resellers here on the forums and ask if there's room on the second batch (providing there's an actual number given by Asus)? Someone was saying either the second or third (can't remember which) was going to be a huge batch. -
man... after these video reviews I am debating if i want g53 or g73 now...
G53
+headphonejack and powerjack on the same side (lol dont ask me why this is a plus for me)
+/-not much smaller than g73
-gpu runs 10c hotter
-bilangual keyboard in canada (sucks!)
-40 dollars more expensive when configured the same as g73 for me
G73
-keyboard lag
(40 dollars cheaper for me) -
It came out cheaper for you? When I was debating on which one to get, the G73 came out to around $40 more. Maybe I ran the numbers wrong...
As much of a pain as it is to get inside the G53, I'm happy there are no screws at the bottom. Every laptop I have owned would lose these screws (they would become stripped somehow) and fall out. ):
I found it kind of funny that all three companies had to hunt for the extra ram slot.
But thanks, you guys, for the video! I rewatched the gentechPC one tons last night. I can't wait to make my own review... -
Hey Justin,
Is there any way that I can check to see if my preorder is going to be part of the first shipment? I placed my order on 9/15. -
True, now that the shipment is in (it is, right? Just waiting on those brackets?) can we know the cut off date for the first shipment?
I'm hoping I'm still part of it! -
Same here. I pause /drool (repeat x100) (lol)
I should be getting mine this week (but knowing the paranoid/delusional border that assumes all boxes are packed with drugs and bombs, it may be delayed) and I'll try and make a review by Monday. -
Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
Send me a email with your order # and I would be happy to take a look. I believe we have contacted the customers who were a part of the first shipment.
-
Cool, thanks Justin. I just sent you an email.
-
how does the sound compare say to the hyped MSI dyna-whatever? g53 is what i have now, and sounds is weak in my opinion.
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Have you gone into your speaker properties (Control Panel>Sound) and activated Loudness Equalization?
-
Don't know of anyone who has had both. But remember, these are PUNY LAPTOP speakers. The tweeters in my monitors are bigger than these speakers.
Compared to the average laptop, the G53 and GX660 should sound about the same and should not be a reason to buy. Altec Lansing is NOT a pro audio company nor a major R&D brand. They produce entry level, consumer audio for computers, laptops and small portable speakers to be used with MP3 players. They also few years ago began to contract with well known R&D In Ear Monitor companies, Etymotic Research and Ultimate Ears. They have since cancelled those contracts and introduced their own dynamic/balanced armature in ear monitors.
From that small description, don't expect high fidelity, pro level or HiFi audio from Altec Lansing. But their entire experience is in making speakers for laptops and computers. So in comparison to others, it's really not bad for laptop speakers. It's what they do.
Sure the GX660 use dynaudio branded speakers. And dynaudio is fairly well known for making pro level gear and they are a R&D brand, just like JBL and other Pro-Audio brands. But what can you do with a .5-3/4" speaker? Not much, if anything. Don't expect miracles cause there wont' be any. They are just dynamic speakers, no secret ingredients, nothing special like electrostatic etc, just classic, 60 year old technology, dynamic speakers. MSI is just using the brand name as a gimmick, everyone does it, to get your notebook more attention. The speakers are better than the average laptop, but it's not miraculous and they won't be replacing your high end headphones or monitors.
As said lots of companies have done what MSI has done. Like Apple who paired up with Harmon Kardon, which for reference are not known for their speakers at all. They did buy out JBL few years ago. Then other companies say they paired up with JBL. Or the latest stupidness, for headphones, pairing up Dr. Dre with Monster. Monster making overpriced, copper wire, big deal... Dr. Dre is neither a Dr. or have a PHD in anything and is a mediocre producer at best who just reuse other people's work without a shred of originality himself. But it sells. Gimmicks and brand names sell. Unoriginal, gimmicky, consumer friendly sound and products sell, Monster and Dr. Dre are the epitome of this statement. -
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
November for me then
I sent you guys 3 e-mails and you always told me you weren't sure who's the first shipment yet... I guess you just couldn't break the news to me!
Don't blame you... I didn't take it well! -
Wow, that's lame.
-
Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
It unfortunately doesn't compare to the MSI with DYN-Audio. The MSI did a excellent job with their sound system.
Dont forget there is another shipment next week. This shipment this week was VERY small.
In addition we have a couple units that could arrive behind the initial shipment, so don't lose hope. We have only contacted the for sure first customers that are a part of the initial confirmed units we have been provided tracking info for from ASUS.
Fee free to send me your order # if you would like me to look into it further. -
Oh dear... my order has been a bit complicated and I've been exchanging emails with you guys daily, so I don't know if I'm in that first shipment.
I've messaged my sales rep to ask him, though. Fingers crossed! -
yes i have. made i noticeable difference in the loudness. just a higher pitched sound. i know you cant expect a whole lot from laptop size speakers, but i have heard really good things about the MSI, and just wondered how asus compared with their new model
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
You might want to go back into your speaker properties and mess about with the other settings to get the tone and pitch where you like it.
Once you get them set, you will find the sound will be hard to beat.
One thing I am confused about though, do you have the G73J or the G53J? -
wow, you must be the first non retailer who has a g53jw. How do you like it and post your 3dmark scores! (does the palm rest rattle alot?)
-
I did... quite a few times,
The last e-mail was from this Tuesday... the 19th
It's really hard to miss me when I contacted you (and others from XoticPc) multiple times about the laptop shipment.
All in all, I sent an email message via "live chat" from the XoticPC website. -
Thanks to Ken's amazing service (and almost a 2 month pre-order wait):
Shipped To: [Removed]
Shipped/Billed On: 10/21/2010
Type: Package
Service: UPS SAVER
I'm praying that the border won't rip/shred the box expecting Anthrax
-
PCCANADA seems to be getting 18 units of 3d tommorow and monday from asus so maybe other resellers were allocated around same amount of units as well.
-
Is anyone worried that in the video reviews the temps are touching 90 degrees?
I am trying to decide between this and the Sager 8690 and reviews for that model state temps about 75 are abnormal. -
When will that be
1st week Nov or latter ? -
I think the problem is, maybe he didn't know which person you were, based on the fact we all have usernames here. Also, they go through hundreds of emails a day, so it is a lot simpler to simply resend the order number.
Every time I email them, I make sure to include my order number in the email... so they don't have to sift through past emails to locate it again.
I'm not coming down on you, I totally feel for your position--I message them a lot regarding my order, I haven't gotten any clues on if I'm getting it any time soon, and I ordered on the sixth of September--I'm just explaining why he asked for it again.
They really are trying their best to get us these things. -
Thanks for the Video review
it was real nice
You said your still waiting for the 2nd bracket for HD
when do you think that will be in ?
Thanks -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
The should be in our warehouse either Friday the 29th or Monday November 1st.
-
thank you
will you have the 2nd bracket also by then ? -
I went to check out the G73 again at the local stores... its way too big lol...
I guess i have to get teh 53 -
Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
All customers are contacted when their order is up to be fulfilled. I was just offering you to email me if you wanted me to look it up for you in the event you would like me to do so, since discussing sensitive order information is not appropriate on a public forum. As with the G53JW-A1, VERY limited supply is being provided by ASUS.
From what we have been told is the brackets will not be available until end of November due to a delay. I hate to say but I dont think they will be in anytime soon. The exact quote we have from ASUS was :
-
If these temps are considered to be "good," then I'm happy, because 1toppc is like 10miles away from me
Hooray for similar weather!
-
Wait... so... if we ordered the G53 with 2 hard drives... we won't be getting it until the end of November?
Nevermind, I'm just going to email you guys about it. I think I'm just getting confused again! -
I was simply showing the e-mail responses I received, no names, no numbers... nothing was shown... It's as if I told you that the word "pizza" came from an e-mail from the CIA.
Being told the same thing a time and time again then having others saying they received information regarding their order will surely frustrate anyone in my position.
I actually felt bad for e-mailing you so many times, all of your responses were more than stellar regarding information on keyboard lighting, wireless upgrades, and many many other topics that all the customer service reps replied with absolute accuracy and full detail with great courtesy and respect, but when it came down to the order the replies seemed never accurate or honest.
So please, don't think this is an attack of any sort, I actually respect resellers having constant and public communication with their customers. It really makes me comfortable ordering a laptop online from a website I just met.
This is actually a perfect example, this regards my order very much, I never heard about it. -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
^--^
So, how do you think it makes us resellers feel when we keep getting the ETA for releases moved around, and rarely get accurate information until the very end when they finally arrive...?? -
Unknown Arrivals is one thing, knowing arrival date, order number, waiting list position is another.
I understand releasing new technology (especially laptops) always have a hard time with dates.
I'm not mad at anyone and I hope no one is mad at me... it just would be nice if I knew when I was getting my laptop. If anything I should be happy that the 3DE is already available, I was expecting it to come in November.
