Sager is a Clevo. Whether you get a Eurocomm (Most Overpriced without question, most overrated), AvaDirect, DevilTech, Origin, Sager or any other that use Clevo whitebook, it's the same machine. The only difference will be in the service, warranty, and overall reliability support of the reseller. Sager has great reputation, well priced, decent service.

The i5 shouldn't matter. The 460M does support Optimus, but neither Asus or Clevo enabled it since the base CPU is the i7 which doesn't support Optimus.

The clear differences between a Sager and Asus will be the connectivity. Sager will hav eSATA, but Asus has USB 3.0, Sager will have display port and ExpresCard slot also.

The other difference will be fan noise level. Cooling in both should be identical in terms of temperature. But the noise level will be key, one you can game without hearing the fan, the other you will hear it.

Keyboard on the Asus will be better. It's backlit, better feel and better layout. Some of the keys layout on Clevo are absolutely idiotic, makes you scratch you head thinking who thought it was a good idea.

Battery life on G73/G53 should be around 2 hours with some tweaking. Clevo is 50 minutes or less. In general Clevo take the top spot, Kings for fan noise and worst battery.

Some may argue the build quality of Clevo is better than the Asus. But the reviews I've read and watched would suggest build quality is not a deciding factor between these notebooks. Only the X7200 from Clevo would be better, Clevo are just plastic just like Asus. Neither notebooks have any flex etc. The G53 around palm rest makes some noise for some reason though. My impression is Clevo may have better quality build, but actually using the two notebooks, you shouldn't notice any difference. Asus isn't flimsy, uses thick good plastic.

Clevo is easier to acces. Easier to mod and easier to upgrade later. They use standard MXM 3.0b while Asus uses proprietary reverse MXM. Meaning to get GPU, Asus has to provide it. Clevo can use any MXM 3.0b as long as you have a supported heatsink and possibly bios upgrade.

And then lastly, design. Which do you like more? Just get whatever you fancy I suppose. The resellers here sell both Sager and Asus so they can help you even further. Just give them a call and they will help you make a decision. My impression GenTech, XoticPC and BTOTech stand by Asus and like selling them. From a few posts, I get the impression PowerNoteboks prefers Sager, but they seem to have sold more Asus than Sager this year. So far the G73jh (both models A1, A2) and the G53JW have been sold out from pre-orders well into release from all the resellers, so they must be loving that.

After watching the G53 video that Xotic made im totally jealous right now. All other laptops pale in comparison. G53 truly is beautiful.

Waiting for Asus Sandy Bridge laptop is a pain in the as*

I don't have anything intelligent to add about the Sager, but my brother (who told me how awesome XoticPC is) purchased a Sager and was really pressing me to get one too, during my laptop hunt.
I liked Sager, but the back lit keyboard was, unfortunately, a deal breaker for me back then. I really wanted one, y'see -- I do a lot of typing at night and have reasons to not want my light on that late (trying to hide from roommates, or I'm sharing the space with someone else, etc) and a back lit keyboard was a dream, so I checked out Asus.
On first impressions, the Sager was huge! Glossy, I think it had a fingerprint reader, and definitely gave off the impression of power.

Backlit was key for me too, along with non-flashy disco ball looks, cool running and strong components.

I don't want to wait any longer. I agree with one of those posts way back that basically said life is short, buy now. That philosophy has generally not made me richer, but made life more fun! I'm hoping to get mine next week. Woo hoo!

Was gonna go to school but the city shut off my water for 8hrs so I can reply lol.

Here's the calculator since it's different in every province:
TheFinalCost.com - Canadian total shipping fees calculator (brokerage, duty, customs)

I saved 72$ in Brokerage Fees b/c I used UPS Expedite (and they cover it; it's 150$ for that shipping service, 1 business day delivery too!). So you're only really paying a little over 25$ on top of standard UPS.

Oh and there's 0 rattling. The palmrest is rubberized and VERY comfortable.

I'll try and make a video review tomorrow, but I only have a 3MP smartphone video camera since I lost the charger for my real HD camera. If it's crap quality, I'll take pics and do a text review of the pros and cons ...but so far, I've yet to encounter a con.

I even had to call tech support b/c I had a question and they picked up in 5< seconds. Unlike MSI where they take 45 minutes to talk.

I'm going to install like 10 games+ tonight and tomorrow and then post the performance sometime this weekend (WoW, SC2, BC2, C&C3/4, etc.). :)

The screen BLOWS MSI screens out of the water. Max brightness is just perfect. Very bright.

    @AnimataurKo
Grats to you too =D! LOL I thought the same thing (double rainbow guy) this morning.

I was told by GentechPC that I'm in the second batch which is the end of next week.

I feel bad for the resellers, I'm emailing them everyday about my order and I consider myself a patient guy... Impatient customers must be spamming the resellers' emails. lol

I'm getting my second HDD and bracket shipped to me separately. I know it's going to be a butch to install, but I love this sort of thing, so I'm hoping it will bring me and my G53 closer together. <3

The only upgrade I requested was to swap the original hard drive for a 160GB solid state.

I'd be hesitant to re-paste the g53 given the few shots of the innards I've seen. It looks like you need a lot to fill the gap correctly, which is not the normal application method for products like arctic silver (typically a very small amount compressed tightly) and the temps have been very good without paste. I'd rather not tempt fate.

I do hope the vendors don't sell the units they tear apart in the videos, in a few of them they are pretty rough with the system. However, I'm also very anal with my computers. I wash my hands before using the keyboard, don't touch the screen, wipe it down every couple days etc.... On the upside, my 3 year old asus looks like it was pulled out of the box yesterday. Everything still shines, no nicks, scratches, or wear to be seen.

How miracle is that driver for the temperature!?

I don´t think that a 3DMark run will reach the same temperatures as a 10min Furmark run as there are breaks for the GPU between the sequences to cool the card... ;)

Actually it gets you from an -XA1 to the stock -A1 also. Though you could do that cheaper with any of the resellers here.

XA1 comes with only a 1yr global warranty as opposed to the A1's 2yr.

The backpack is one of the best laptop bags I've ever used. It literally feels like I'm carrying a feather.

The mouse is a different story. I'd classify it as a really crappy mouse. Why? B/c it doesn't have side buttons and it's made for people with small/tiny hands :p

My Logitech G9X blows that mouse away.

    Thanks Drusus.

Well, it is the exact same screen as the old G51J, Jx etc. And it is the exact same screen of MSI GX660 series. Lol, better than MSI screens when it's the same eh? :p

Horrible viewing angles but works good and decent color.

I advise everyone to turn DIgital vibrancy on on the nvidia control panel around +15 units or maybe more to enjoy much better colors.

Not quite higher than the HD5870 mate. They are close but I am sure I will never be defeated, even if by 1 point! :p

You can compare it to my OCd numbers if you want (on my sig) and my temp during benchmark was 68C on a hot day.

    @ryzeki
Going from the GX740 to the G53 is such a big upgrade when it comes to the screen. Went from a crappy granny/low brightness screen to a perfect well lit HD one :)

Few questions for Ken regarding ordering G53 from GenTech PC: I'm coming over to US in January to visit relatives and now I'm contemplating of buying G53 while in there. Is it possible for me to order G53 and pay by, for instance, paypal e-check, or is the wired transfer the only option? The delivery address would be in US but my credit card/paypal address is naturally outside US.

And is it possible to order an SSD as a primary drive and leave the included 750 GB drive in as a secondary drive? If so, how is this done in your website or do I just have to add SSD as primary and pay extra 45 $ for 500 GB secondary?

    Thank you in advance!

Actually yeah, the GX740 does have a horrible screen. I wish our machines had better screens though. Mainly viewing angles. I could live with 50 or so degrees but as it stands, its probably half that right now :D

Glad the G53 turned to really exist and be a fine machine. Now I want newer GPUs to take advantage of Nvidia and ATi 3D tech without sacrificing all my performance!

I currently have a targus bag from Best buy... for 100$. And easily it is the best bag i've had, it can withstand all the books and laptops I throw at it. Asus also uses targus to build their bags, they use the same quality material but has a design for Asus ROG... So the bag will not disappoint. The mouse however lost me at "corded"... I'm not a hardcore gamer, I don't need the response time of an eagle.

It's only heavy if you're out of shape :) Just use the bag that comes with it. It's a really good bag and even has a chest strap for balance.

    Backpack > Shoulder Bag

Less wobble = less chances of wrecking the laptop.

Regarding the screen, I was comparing the GX740 to the G53 if you're referring to my screen comment :) (granny & brightness - not resolution)

I believe the GT663 is coming out next month. I read it was supposed to launch at the end of this month on a blog site a while ago, but it doesn't seem like it's going to show its face just yet. Nice looking system ...let's just hope the posted price on the blog sites are a lie b/c if I don't think much people will flock to the 2.5k price tag.

This is the setting I play with, when I game for 2-4 hours straight. For me, this is my stock, my normal setting 800/1125, I never ever lower the clocks than this for gaming or anything 3D related, temps never exceed 81C even with Furmark extreme burn.. Not just overclock for benchmarking. So I guess the answer is a no.

My GPU score 8624 vs Ken's 8272. Please remember this is benchmarking HD5870M vs GTX 460M, it's the GPU score that matters. It's apparent his CPU is much better than mine.

    This is the overclock 850/1200 score. My GPU score 9121 vs 460M + i7 740QM combined score of 8982, :p GPU Score 9121 vs Ken's 8272.

Nice scores. I can't really OC my memory but I game and I am perfectly stable at 900/1030 :)

I have yet to run vantage on 900/1030, as my current vantage score was with 870 core. Maybe I can reach your same GPU score :p

My max temp when gaming so far is 72 C.

Yeah, my benchmark isn't nearly as high as other G73 owners. 850/1200 are the same clocks that a HD5770 runs at, so I'm sure I can go higher, but no need. GPU 9121 crushs the 460M's overclocked 8272 score already.

EW. Hate Targus bags. Nothing compares to Brenthaven, mang. It's like armor for your bag, which happens to have a laptop inside of it :) (Hope that makes sense heheh). So what's the dimensions of the ROG bag again?

Also, at the user who said that the mouse is for ppl with tiny hands--THANK YOU! I have small hands, so I hope this mouse will finally be the replacement for my 20buck logitech basic optical mouse :)

P.S. Deciding to get a G53, unless E14 drops in price and re-offers the 1600x900 reso.
