Haha Congrats!!!
I know how you feel...
I have quite a bit of work to do over the week, so when I get a brand new laptop at the end it of it. It will def brighten mine as well.
-
Depends on what you want. SSD won't increase performance. But it will reduce your boot time and the load times. But for load times you likely won't notice unless it's programs like Photoshop that have a lot of stuff to load.
Check Youtube, there are already videos of G73jh with SSD showing boot times and loading Photoshop CS4.
Do I think SSD are worth it? Yes and no. At the current price, no. At a later time, maybe year to two years from now, possibly. I personally don't mind waiting an extra 3-5 seconds for something to load. Loading Photoshop is not a time sensitive and urgent issue for me. -
How is the mouse on the asus g53?I want to play an rts like starcraft 2 so I don't need that many buttons on the mouse right?
-
I think its fine since its a laser. I play Generals and a few others, and like you said you really don't need anymore buttons other than the main 2.
-
So $99 for a 64GB SSD worth it?
-
Nice vid..
I actually just realize that my bag from Best buy is actually Swiss army and not targus!
So targus quality.. you shall be judged!Last edited by a moderator: May 6, 2015 -
It's definitely made well, as you would expect from Targus. But unlike a Targus bag you buy from retail, it's not a full size backpack, it's half size.
But it does have enough room for your laptop, mousepad, 2-3 textbooks, full size circumaural headphones, your powerpack and battery, on the side a water bottle and in the little pocket your miscellaneous small items like keys or what not.
There is no give/stretching when you pull on the material of the backpack. The padding on the shoulder straps and the back are very welcome, makes it a comfortable backpack.
What I also love is how unassuming it looks. When I'm walking around with over $2,000 worth of stuff between textbooks, laptop, high-end headphones, last thing I want is people to notice me and my backpack. I want people to ignore me and not even notice I'm there. This backpack is great for that. It doesn't look like something that screams, there is a laptop in here. It's says, I have just a few things that I don't want carry freely without a bag.
Also the mouse for those wondering about the Abyssus.
The Abyssus from Razer was made for one reason. A traditional two button mouse with scroll button with gaming quality response and laser. That's it, nothing more. It is an actual real gaming mouse for people who don't want thumb buttons etc. So it is a great mouse and if you know anyone who doesn't need 8-15 buttons, you should give it to them, don't just toss it away
Just an FYI is all. -
I like the abyssus. People claim its small and doesn't fit in their hand, but that's a bit of a misconception. There's three ways to hold a mouse, the palm grip, the claw grip, and the fingertip grip. Razer is the first company I've seen to realize this and make mice appropriate for each grip:
Razer Ergonomics Guide | Razer | For Gamers. By Gamers.
Razer Ergonomics Guide | Razer | For Gamers. By Gamers.
Razer Ergonomics Guide | Razer | For Gamers. By Gamers.
As a fingertip gripper, the abyssus fits my hand well. I sit my wrist on the table and dont move it at all as I mouse around. I 'pinch' the mouse between my thumb and ring finger, and move my fingers forward, backward, left, and right to move the mouse.
If you're a palm-grip person, then it probably wont fit into your hand as well because it was made to be stubby on purpose. -
Do you need more buttons on a mouse for an rts game?
-
Hardly. The Mouse alone won't win you any RTS games
-
Haha I know that but do people usually use mice with side buttons or just the 2 main clickers?
-
I agree
was at bestbuy today & saw the G73 its Big & heavy
Im back to getting the G53
Just wondering if the mouse pad is too close & in the way
when playing FPS games ? -
You are right on the money!
But remember, a crappy mouse could actually lose you a game as well!
****
Omg... my lappy (g50) is now freezing for no reason! my memory usage goes to 95% and I get up to 500(zomg 1000!) Hard Faults/sec... it's a sign.
Tomorrow I will be receiving my new mouse and mat... I think I'll hold off to opening them until I get my lappy. -
what do you guys think of this mouse? my laptopshould be coming in soon and hoping to pick this up for it:
Razer | For Gamers. By Gamers.? | Online Store - Razer Orochi? Bluetooth Notebook Gaming Mouse -
sadly, because we talk so much on this thread... (or because you're never here) any information put here gets lost after a few pages.
That's the mouse that is coming tomorrow for me (from amazon), originally I wasn't going to buy it as I thought that I can only have 1 bluetooth device connected at one time, but after I tested my friends XPS (who set out to prove me wrong) I found out that I could play music from my bluetooth headset and use his "connectland" bluetooth mouse at the same time.
I'll let you know how the mouse goes... I will probably review it on the side. Also look for "allurgroceries" he made a small review that was pretty much positive... amazon also has many reviews as well. -
It depends on make and model. Please don't just buy any SSD just because it is cheap as there are massive differences und you could waste your money.
I went for a SuperTalent 64GB (FTM64GX25H) a year ago or so and this SSD is absolutly brilliant. 64GB is more than enough for Win7 and the usual programms. I don't need that extra second loading a save game therefore all my games are on my old fashion 7.2K HDD

I'm using the Orochi right now
It's way too sensitive for my 12" laptop so I kick the resolution down. I did use it on my G51J and it felt comparable to my Lachesis, but I'd prefer the Lachesis for everyday use. The Orochi is very small, but it is very ergonomic. I put my 3 fingers across the top buttons and use my thumb and pinky to hold it, and the side buttons are easy to press.
My only complaint was that there was some lag when it starts to idle (to save battery power). I was able to fix this in Linux, but I've never used it in windows except to flash the firmware, so I'm not sure if it's an issue.
It'd be a great match for the G53, since it's got a black rubberized finish.
-
Haha yeah I remember a crappy $20 mouse with adjustable DPI settings at first I thought wow a bargain well after a few games / months it went borked. Still using my trusty old logitech but it's showing its age.
Maybe your HD's giving up. 500 Faults thats really a sign
AFAIK most bluetooth in laptops really supports multiple devices. -
Still waiting for Ken to give me a reply for my order.
-
That's the exact answer I was hoping for! Thanks.
And yeah, I think from a design standpoint, they are a perfect match =) -

I apologize for being late to the party, but I had to rush my wife to the Emergency Room yesterday and was there for over 8 hours. Yuk...Kidney stones, lots of pain...but she is much better now.
Justin,
Your statement that PowerNotebooks.com is using ASUS G73J brackets in the ASUS G53JW-A1 is false. It simply is not true.
You should be sure of your facts before you publish false statements about your competitors.
Now, the only truth in your statement is that the ASUS G73J brackets are indeed not the same as the brackets for the ASUS G53JW-A1.
The mounting tabs are staggered on the ASUS G53JW-A1 to properly fit the case, while the mounting tabs for the ASUS G73J are straight across from each other. In addition, the ASUS G53JW-A1 brackets have foam strips to help mitigate vibration and fit which the ASUS G73J brackets do not have.
I do recommend that you consider getting our ASUS OS recovery DVD and Blu-ray software DVD for $15. ASUS does not send an OS disk or Blu-ray software with your laptop, but they do offer you a utility called A1Recovery which allows you to burn a set of 6 DVD's that will restore your Windows 7 Operating System, but with all the bloatware and scamware that the ASUS factory installs. With our ASUS OS recovery DVD and Blu-ray software DVD you will be able to do a clean install without all that junk. -
I hope all is well with your wife, a friend of mine recently suffered from kidney stones... doesn't drink enough water.
-
@paladin
Glad to hear that your wife's ok. She should drink lots of water now and avoid salty foods.
Just a heads up Xoticpc and Gentechpcs dropped there G53-A1 price by $20 (was 1499 now 1479.) and with free 8GB upgrades. -

Sorry to hear about your wife.
A little strange since we were advised of this.
What brackets arrived at your "warehouse" in your previous post, considering G53 brackets are not in at ASUS yet?
-
Whaaat? It dropped in price? Nooooo!
Oh well, I guess it is just $20 bucks. And I get it this Monday, so...
(I'm really not upset or anything. I just find the timing hilarious ;P ) -
Mine is coming (since 13 mins ago) TOMORROW
HOLY JEEZ 3D movies are expensive... -
JEALOUS!
I wish mine would arrive THIS week. (It's arriving November 1st.) I'm going to fall behind on my writing competition, but... work has been so slow, I'm sure I'll probably be home on Monday, anyway.
I just can't wait unbox it... SO many pictures!
On a side note, some guy on my bus totally got mugged. I was so glad I didn't have my work mac with me... I'm keeping my laptop at home and hidden when I'm not around! -
Woohoo - my Asus G53 arrived today. Sadly I am in the midst of the worst work stretch ever - with allday work meetings followed by work dinners ugghh so just got home and unpacking and trying to figure out Windows 7 now. First impression, this thing is awesome. I got the OCZ SSD and the windows specs are all above 7.0. Love everything about it except the mouse buttons are way to resistant. You need to push down hard and you hear a loud click. Its easy to work around since you can just tap the touchpad instead but that is not what I am used to. Other than that it feels very fast, smooth, and I love the backlit keyboard as well as the size (smaller than my 17 inch XPS 1710). I won't have time to do more in-depth analysis until this weekend.
I got mine through PowerNotebooks - shipping was super-fast to CA from NV - one day. They were great to deal with and very gracious and accommodating when I asked to make a few very last minute changes to my order.
Cheers!

Hahaha, yeah luckily I don't have class on friday, so I get to spend pretty much 2 days with it without any distractions other than the three basic elements... food, shelter, girlfriend.
OMG... Where do you live?! Lol, make sure you have some pepper spray, or a pepper spray / tazer gun combo. -
Congrats... I was wondering if anyone else on this forum was getting it.
Good luck with your work though, I know how you feel. -
I live in one of the crappy parts of San Francisco, but not that crappy. I mean, it's no Tenderloin. At least one of you will understand that reference!
Our problem is sometimes this gang of dropouts ride the bus too and cause a huge ruckus. They graffiti the bus and show no respect to other riders. (I'm a bit of an old lady when it comes to those things... even though I'm not old!) This is the first time I saw them rob somebody though. The kid chased them off the bus and they beat the snot out of him. My roommate and I had to stay as witnesses... but they gave us a ride home in a cop car after that. They drive so fast! Yeah I know... I'm like a little kid, haha.
You'd think I'd own pepper spray... I think I'll go buy some tomorrow.
Anyway, this has nothing to do with how awesome it is that ya'll are getting your G53s! I'm so jealous! -
They are very effective, so are tazers... Tried it on myself (pepper spray) and boy does it bring a guy down...
A month (or week) from now we will forget about all the wait and excitement that we originally had for the laptop and we will move on in our life searching for the next thrill... -
@ Metallic: Thanks, yeah work has its ups and downs. I sure miss those student days at times like this. But then I think I'd never have graduated if I were a student these days with all the cool games, web apps, etc.
-
Hahahaha! yeah I'm wondering how I'm making it through school with all of what I'm doing.
-
Dear Justin,
Please check your PM box. I PMed you yesterday.
Thanks

Nice! Can it play at even higher settings?
-
Way to waste them bullets ken
Nice vid! Can't wait to try it in 3D!
I'm sure of it... but because of this video recording it takes a big hit in performance.Last edited by a moderator: May 6, 2015 -
I can make another video with high and low settings.
-
Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
Replied to your PM
-
There is no hit, what you see there is what you get. Ken doesn't use Fraps to record, he uses a video camera, very well done. Looks to be stock, so if he overclocks it, he can. With OC on HD5870M can get higher performance than what he has on high settings including HBAO on.
-
He's using fraps not a video camera as you can see on the top left there's FPS count. If the 460M is indeed cooler than the 5870M then there's a little more headroom for Ocing.
-
That's a bit of a non sequitur. He could load fraps to display the frame rate and capture with a camera to show actual in-game performance.
-
No he's not. FRAPS can be used just to show the framerate, just about anyone who uses FRAPS knows this and this is how majority of people are able to say what their FPS is.
FRAPS have also said that the FPS counter has no affect on performance. -
well my hopes are down....
BF2:BC2 isnt exactly a new engine or game for the matter (BC 3 introduces a new or update engine)
Can't wait to get it Tomorrow
-
I wouldn't worry, looks to me that is likely stock so if you can overclock, you should be able to get low 40s for 32 player map. And overclock on the 460M seems stable.
-
Thats good to hear!! I guess I can be sure that I will be playing this game at medium during 3D... the single player was great (terrible compared to BC1) and having those planes crash in 3d will look astounding... damn it i'm soo excited.
-
=EM= Clan Certified BC2 configurator! - The best
- Electronic Arts UK Community
I would use this. This allows you to change your FOV, the stock FOV is the same as used on a console, PS3. And for PC gaming it's terrible. 78-90 is the recommended.
Also the mouse control on BC2 is inherent. They reduced the mouse effects in latest patch but it's still prevalent. I guarantee your performance in game will rise if you disable BC2 mouse effects. Mouse smoothing and reverse acceleration is unacceptable for PC FPS Gaming IMO. We buy expensive gaming mouse with the customized settings for a reason

Ken: I like how you fired on the fuel drums and blew them right on your own teammate.
Remind me not to have you on my fire team.

It is strange though (even for g73) that up to now that there is no "how to take care of your g53/g73" wiki site like someone had done for the G1s. Anyone want to take up on that?
