Awesome Vids Ken! Thanks for benchmarking my favorite game :D Love the detail in this game.

My laptop should be arriving in 4 hours :D
Yeah it's a whole different architecture which also includes widi... it needs a whole new motherboard im afraid.

Sandy bridge will be released in about 2 months

Sandy Bridge is in mass production right now as we speak, and i would guess that the engineers at Asus etc will be recieving their chips soon (or have), or have full specs so that they are designing the next laptop now instead of waiting for the official release from Intel.

Well lets say that Sandy Bridge got released in 2 months. Asus will probably not immediately release any new designs soon maybe around January~Feb with these the cycle for waiting begins. 1~2 months pre-order then maybe march-april release.

I'm guessing probably Sager will be the first one to adapt SB and new video cards ( 68xx series or the rumored 580?).

So if we get the G53 with the G73 brackets
    there will issues, like vibration
meaning it will make more noise or could create performance issues also ?

    Thanks

Any reseller modifying the G53 with the G73 brackets should know to put dampening material on the bracket to keep vibration from becoming a problem. Since the G73 brackets are the only thing available right now this is really the only option for someone who does not want to wait for the G53 brackets to come in at Asus. Its doable with some major modifications and some extra rubber strips and glue :)

why can't they design the g53 to hold two HDDs without brackets in the first place?

I agree with you, there is nothing that compares to a 100% match the "Official" G53 Bracket will provide. I know if I found out a G73 Bracket was used that is not a 100% match I would be little upset, it is always best to keep true OEM Parts in it that are made for the machine. The G53 Brackets are expected in about 2 weeks when we checked with our rep @ ASUS yesterday.

To modify ASUS G73J brackets to work in the ASUS G53JW-A1 would be almost impossible since the mounting tabs are so much lower on one side to fit the ASUS G53JW-A1 case.

Doing so would indeed be a real "hatchet" job. It is definitely NOT recommended.

G53 Brackets are not in at ASUS, whatever brackets are being used are not the OEM G53 Brackets.

Awesome! I hope you get yours before the new year too...in fact I hope I get mine before the new year too, the way things are looking.
At least I know that the wait will pay off in the end. I just hope I dont have to wait another month after the next shipment or I might seriously change my mind. I mean waiting for it to come at the end of september was a wait...but this...this...eh let me stop complaining and wait some more :D

The G53 seems to be selling better than its big brother, the G73 -- if you look at the availibility on Amazon, many of the quantity amounts have not changed much if at all since the release of the new Machines featuring the Fermi cards.

Why do you think that is?

Why are many of you purchasing the 15" instead of the 17" ? is the pure size of the machine the sole reason? or are there others?

It sat in Kansas all day yesterday. I was like, What the? What's in Kansas? Stopping to see friends, G53? Ugh!

It was a size thing for me. People say bigger is better, but... I was hesitant to get a 17+ inch laptop because of traveling reasons.
The G53 covered all my needs + some, while appearing a little more manageable in the size department. :)

    LOL.

Ahhh...yea, I was wondering how the brightness for the backlit keyboard is?
Is it the same as the G73? I've seen the G73 upclose and I like the lights under it because it doesnt blind you like this one HP my friend had. The lights in that keyboard would be so bright that it lost its purpose...and I'd lose my sight for a while too...

I have seen all the reviews and videos, so I'm actually not being lazy on this and not searching it up myself xD
I really wanna know what you guys think of the brightness on the keys. Not that itll be an issue, I can just turn it down anyways.

    Thank you BatBoy,

I can't stand discussions on forums that are full of insults and name calling... they really add nothing to the discussion.

Does anyone have any information as to whether or not Newegg is going to start carrying the G53? I've heard rumors, but haven't seen anything solid yet myself...

I do like how GenTech is giving away a free mouse and carrying bag, as well as upgrading your machine to 8 GB for free though :) How long will you guys be doing that? I may not order my G53 until late November, will that deal still be going on?

Yar if someone is annoying you with posts just put them on ignore like I just did :p

G53 and G73 keyboard are the same. And in a very well lit room they are not very noticeable. But in a dimly lit room, they look and function well.

I got food sickness, I was in no mood for talking... but I took many photos, but... it's nothing special.. Just wait for my written and video review. I'll be doing benchmarking on a few games and the 3D is really amazing.

    A few more points.

    - The bag quality isn't near the swiss blue bag from best buy. It's still nice.
    - The mouse is pretty high quality for a free mouse.
    - Laptop isn't very big, easily transportable... I just took it to class.
    - It lasted me a 1 hour 20 minute class, with 42% left, that included a few 3d demos to show my friends.

    Over all... impressive.

Wow, this is an exciting thread! I've skimmed through the thread, but its 300 pages long so I apologize if this has already been answered, but does the G53 come with 3D glasses or do you have to buy the nvidia 3d vision?

the 3d laptop comes with the following : Bluray reader, 3d glasses, and a built in ir emitter for the 3d to work. So it's very much worth it terms of pricing, because the price is only 300$ extra, and this equipment (bluray, ir, glasses) is worth 300$, so you get the 3d screen free... I havn't played any games in 3d yet, or any games AT ALL. So i'll let everyone know how it goes.

Picasa it is for image hosting. Youtube for vids!

Can one of the vendors, please post some side by side pics of the G73 and g53 side by side, ive seen some in the video, by they are very quick,,,, maybe show some pics with them opened up form front, back and top view?

in the one video, it really doesnt seem to be that much smaller only the g73 looks to be slightly wider.

and why wouldnt they make the g53 all ruberized like the big bro?? that was one of the selling points, because it just made it so much more durable, and owners didnt ahve to worry about scratches and such.... such a lame idea, hopefully the g53 refresh will be all rubberized.

Imo the rubber is most likely to wear down on use or depending on how you transport the laptop, i think in the inside is a nice touch, but outside, i would prefer the plain look that G53 has, less likely to change the appearance on wear or use.

The rubber outside doesn't contribute to durability, it just allows for different ways to mess it up

Trust me when I say it's very portable and light to carry :)

I honestly can't even tell the difference between the Dell Studio and HP Pavillion 15.6" if I were to blindfold myself and have someone randomly place them on my lap.

Yup, it's that light and compact.

When I pulled it out for my psychology class today, people were very impressed with the how light it was for the specs (two people lifted it to feel the weight).

    ----

Btw, if anyone has found and tested workable clear film coating for the lid, please share :D

well people are already complaining of how its easy to scratch,,, id rather rubber should be alot more scratch proof than plastic no?
people are going out of there way to buy plastic covers for the g53's i dont recall g73 people having to do this. Personally i like the rubberized, and im sure 99% of the people do....

Sooo Abula u hate your g73 rubberized finish, you should know, you aparently own one??? and u prefer the g53? a laptop u have not even seen in person?

the screen on the g73 is said to be alot better,,,,, with size not being dramatically different, the g73 is prolly the best way to go,, but thats my opinion. and the all rubber finish,,, but again thats my opinion, to me the rubber looks better

btw - this thing is still pretty big. I just set mine on top of my old Dell XPS 1710 and they are almost exactly the same size - so much for whipping it out easily on a plane. The Asus does feel a lot lighter at least. I am glad I didnt get the G73 as the G53 is already a bit bigger than what I was looking for.

    p.s go giants!

If you had big laptops before (especially the g series from Asus) this laptop is just another update, the size and weight is practically the same, so you'll feel right at home.

More points- I'm using this forum as my note pad for the review lol
    - The 3D is amazing... flicker free 100%!
    - The keyboard is BA! but I feel that I could scratch it if I press the buttons with my nails (like pressing the right shift key with your pinky)
    - Also, if you are use the laptop at a low angle, you can see the leds under the keyboard and it can be a little distracting.
    - The ASUS Logo on the back DOES NOT GLOW, or I havn't figured it out yet.
    - I just played Just Cause 2 in 3D... the performance does indeed take a major hit, but the 3D quality is amazing, it's very easy to aim like in 2D, but I'm having a weird mouse delay when playing 3D, it could be due to performance, I need to update my drivers.
    - Unlike what Notebook Check said when reviewing this model, It's VERY EASY to turn 3D effect on/off... just hit the ROG Logo button on the top left of the keyboard (its beside the performance switch and keyboard light toggle) So it's pretty easy to show you the 2D/3D performance... something I thought would be a pain.
    - The effects of windows aero are ULTRA smooth, is it because of the 120hz screen? i'm not sure yet.
